The Australian is fresh off capturing an ATP 500 title in Acapulco. His next opponent will be sixth seed Alexander Zverev after the German defeated 27th seed Tallon Griekspoor 7-6(7), 6-3.

5) Will Ruud or De Minaur clinch first Masters 1000 crown? Casper Ruud and Alex de Minaur have won 18 tour-level titles between them but neither have triumphed at a Masters 1000 event. Ruud, currently No. 8 in the PIF ATP Rankings, reached the final in Miami in 2022. De Minaur has won seven of his past eight matches (Acapulco title) with his best result at a Masters 1000 event a final run in Toronto last season.

Enjoying the best respective seasons of their careers, Alex de Minaur and Katie Boulter hit another milestone together on Friday.

The couple celebrated their fourth anniversary in Florida, where they are both competing at the Miami Open presented by Itau. The Hologic WTA Tour star Boulter posted on Instagram to commemorate the occasion.

“4 years with you” wrote the WTA World No. 30 Boulter, while sharing a picture of herself and the No. 10 in the PIF ATP Rankings De Minaur. The Briton then light-heartedly pre-empted any curious responses to a ring on her left hand with a clarification. “Calm down not engaged. Just the only finger that ring fits.”


That did not stop De Minaur’s fellow ATP Tour star Thanasi Kokkinakis from mischief-making. “Genuinely thought this was the proposal,” joked the Aussie.

WTA star Paula Badosa heralded De Minaur and Boulter as “Cuties”, while another Spaniard, the recently engaged Alejandro Davidovich Fokina, also chimed in. “Your turn”, joked the World No. 28.

Plenty of fans also sent congratulatory messages to De Minaur and Boulter, including one who worked in a reference to the former’s recent undercover work in the tournament car park team at the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells…

Ale de Minaur continued his impressive 2024 with a 6-3, 6-2 win against Soonwoo Kwon. The Australian has now earned a Tour-leading 18 wins in 2024, having captured the ATP 500 crown in Acapulco earlier this month.

The 25-year-old, currently No. 10 in the PIF ATP Rankings, will play big-serving German Jan-Lennard Struff in the third round.

Alex de Minaur continued his strong start to 2024 by scoring his tour-leading 19th match win of the year Monday at the Miami Open presented by Itau. The Aussie earned a 7-6(3), 6-4 victory against 24th seed Jan-Lennard Struff to advance to the fourth round for the first time at the ATP Masters 1000, matching his Indian Wells run.

The ninth-seeded De Minaur successfully defended his Acapulco title before embarking on the Sunshine Swing and also reached the Rottterdam final last month. His 19th win of the year moved him one ahead of Jannik Sinner and Casper Ruud for sole possession of first place on the ATP Tour, though both Sinner and Ruud can match him by advancing on Tuesday.


In windy conditions, De Minaur stayed the course to improve to 3-2 in his Lexus ATP Head2Head against Struff. Despite making just 48 per cent of his first serves, according to Infosys ATP Stats, the Aussie faced just one break point, which he saved.

"It wasn't going go to be easy. It's super tough conditions," said De Minaur, who won 40 of his 84 points via Struff unforced errors. "I just tried to keep my head and keep composure. I was able to get a little bit lucky in big points today and happy to get the win."

After battling through five deuces to hold for 5-3 in the second set, he coolly served out the win after one hour, 49 minutes.

Next up is a chance for revenge against Fabian Marozsan, who beat him last year at the Rolex Shanghai Masters. The Hungarian is 3-1 against Top 10 opponents, including a win against sixth seed Holger Rune on Sunday. He backed that up with a 7-5, 6-3 result against Alexei Popyrin on Monday.

"He got me last time, so I know exactly what to expect," De Minaur said of the 24-year-old, who moved into the Top 50 of the PIF ATP Live Rankings by reaching the fourth round. "He's a hell of a player, he's playing great and he's super dangerous."
