Granolles/Zeballos Advance To Geneva Final

Third seeds chasing first title of season
Marcel Granollers and Horacio Zeballos reached their first tour-level final of the season together on Friday at the Gonet Geneva Open, where they moved past top seeds Marcelo Arevalo and Jean-Julien Rojer 6-4, 7-5.

The Spanish-Argentine pair won 83 per cent (30/36) of their first serve points and saved three break points when serving for the match at 6-5 in the second set to triumph after one hour and 32 minutes.

Granollers and Zeballos have won seven tour-level titles together, including four on clay. They will aim to win their eighth trophy on Saturday when they face fourth seeds Jamie Murray and Michael Venus in the final.

At the Open Parc Auvergne-Rhone-Alpes Lyon, Nicolas Mahut and Matwe Middelkoop advanced to the final after receiving a walkover from Sadio Doumbia and Fabien Reboul. The French-Dutch pair will play top seeds Rajeev Ram and Joe Salisbury in the title match.

Granollers/Zeballos Upset Top Seeds Koolhof/Skupski In Roland Garros QFs

Marcel Granollers and Horacio Zeballos continued to march through the Roland Garros doubles draw with an upset of top seeds Wesley Koolhof and Neal Skupski on Tuesday in Paris.

The 10th seeds have not dropped a set in the tournament, and they carried their strong form into the quarter-finals with a 6-3, 7-6(4) win against Koolhof/Skupski on Court Simonne-Mathieu. The Spanish-Argentine duo saved the only break point they faced and won 85 per cent of their first-serve points in the victory while converting on one of their two break chances.


Granollers/Zeballos had not lost more than three games in a set this fortnight until they were pushed to a tie-break by the top seeds, but a strong finish ensured their perfect set record remained intact.

They will next meet fourth seeds Ivan Dodig and Austin Krajicek in Thursday's semi-finals, after the fourth seeds moved past 11th-seeded Germans Kevin Krawietz and Tim Puetz 7-6(6), 5-7, 6-4. Dodig/Krajicek, who notched three of their four Roland Garros wins in a deciding set, secured the win despite converting on just one of nine break points on Court Suzanne-Lenglen.

Thursday's other men's doubles semi-final will see 12th seeds Matwe Middelkoop and Andreas Mies take on Belgians Sander Gille and Joran Vliegen. Both teams advanced with Monday quarter-final wins.

Marcel Granollers and Horacio Zeballos maintained their perfect run Wednesday at the Rolex Shanghai Masters, but the seventh seeds had to be clinical with their chances to reach the semi-finals in China.

Granollers and Zeballos made it eight sets played, eight sets won at the ATP Masters 1000 event by beating Robin Haase and Stefanos Tsitsipas 7-6(2), 6-3. The Spanish-Argentine pair raised its level to claim the first-set tie-break before converting the only break point of a serve-dominated encounter early in the second set for a 73-minute quarter-final victory.

With their win, Granollers and Zeballos boosted their Nitto ATP Finals qualification hopes. The duo has risen one spot to fifth in the Pepperstone ATP Live Doubles Teams Rankings as a result of its Shanghai run, putting it in a good position to reach the prestigious season finale for the fourth consecutive year.

Granollers and Zeballos’ semi-final opponents will be Rinky Hijikata and Cameron Norrie. The scratch Australian-British pair extended its dream run in Shanghai by beating fifth seeds Maximo Gonzalez and Andres Molteni 6-4, 3-6, 10-8.

It was a third straight Match Tie-break victory for Hijikata and Norrie, who upset third seeds Rajeev Ram and Joe Salisbury in the third round. They held their nerve to win three points in a row from 7/8 in the decider against Gonzalez and Molteni for a tense one-hour, 36-minute victory.

Marcel Granollers and Horacio Zeballos’ red-hot run at the Rolex Shanghai Masters continued Friday. The Spanish-Argentine pair eased past Rinky Hijikata and Cameron Norrie 6-2, 6-3 to reach the final at the ATP Masters 1000.

The seventh-seeded Granollers and Zeballos converted four of seven break points they earned in a 63-minute triumph inside Qizhong Forest Sports City Arena. They have now won all eight sets they have played this year in Shanghai, where they are seeking their fifth Masters 1000 title as a team and their first since Cincinnati in 2021.


Granollers and Zeballos’ Shanghai run has already boosted their hopes of qualifying for the Nitto ATP Finals for the fourth straight year. They have risen two spots to fourth in the Pepperstone ATP Live Doubles Teams Rankings as a result of their exploits so far in China.

Standing in their way in Sunday’s championship match will be the winner of Saturday’s semi-final clash between fourth seeds Rohan Bopanna/Matthew Ebden and Sadio Doumbia/Fabien Reboul.

Granollers/Zeballos Reign In Shanghai

Seventh seeds clinch fifth Masters 1000 title together
Marcel Granollers and Horacio Zeballos captured their fifth ATP Masters 1000 title and first of the season together on Sunday when they overcame fourth seeds Rohan Bopanna and Matthew Ebden 5-7, 6-2, 10-7 at the Rolex Shanghai Masters.

The seventh seeds did not drop a set en route to the final but were made to work hard by Bopanna and Ebden, who were chasing their third trophy of the season as a team.

After dropping serve in the 12th game of the first set to lose the opener, Granollers and Zeballos responded by racing into a 4-0 lead in the second set. They won 53 per cent (8/15) of points on Bopanna and Ebden’s first serves in the set to level before converting on their third match point in the Match Tie-break to triumph after 84 minutes.

"We were playing against a great team," Zeballos said. "They were serving very well, doing great stuff but I think the most important thing was to stay confident and keep talking. At the end we were playing really good tennis."

With their 33rd win of the season, the Spanish-Argentine tandem has consolidated its position in fourth in the Pepperstone ATP Live Doubles Teams Rankings. Granollers and Zeballos are aiming to qualify for the Nitto ATP Finals for the fourth consecutive year.

"We have been working really hard this year to finally get that trophy," Granollers said. We played great all week and have been for the past months. Everything came together."

They have now won five Masters 1000 titles, also triumphing in Montreal (2019), Rome (2020), Madrid (2021) and Cincinnati (2021). Sunday’s victory was their eighth title triumph together and first since Halle in 2022.

Bopanna and Ebden are 32-17 in their first season together and stamped their ticket for the Nitto ATP Finals by reaching the final in Shanghai.

Marcel Granollers and Horacio Zeballos have qualified for the Nitto ATP Finals together for the fourth consecutive year. They will try to earn their first team title at the season finale in Turin from 12-19 November.

The two-time year-end championships semi-finalists (2020 and 2021) are the fifth team to qualify, joining Ivan Dodig/Austin Krajicek, Wesley Koolhof/Neal Skupski, Rohan Bopanna/Matthew Ebden and defending champions Rajeev Ram/Joe Salisbury.

The veteran doubles players have enjoyed a standout year at the majors, which has propelled them to the season finale.

Granollers and Zeballos reached the final at Wimbledon and the semi-finals at the Australian Open and Roland Garros. The Spanish-Argentine duo won an ATP Masters 1000 title in Shanghai and also made semi-finals at that level in Rome and Toronto.

Granollers will make his eighth appearance at the Nitto ATP Finals and try to secure his second crown after lifting the trophy with Marc Lopez in 2012. It will be Zeballos' fourth appearance and the team is 4-7 together, having made the semi-finals in 2020 and 2021.

They won 80 per cent of points behind their second serves in the second set compared to just 43 per cent in the opener. Granollers and Zeballos were sharp at the net in the Match Tie-break to triumph after 90 minutes.

Granollers and Zeballos are making their fourth appearance as a team at the prestigious year-end event. They advanced to the semi-finals in 2020 and 2021, but fell in the round-robin stage 12 months ago.
