Frances Tiafoe headlined the Delray Beach evening session and delivered in front of his home fans with a 7-6(5), 7-6(4) victory against Radu Albot. The second-seeded Tiafoe regrouped to claim the first set after failing to serve it out at 5-3, then battled back from 2-5 the second set, saving a set point at 5-6 to force another tie-break.

Both Tiafoe (2018) and Albot (2019) are former Delray Beach champions, as is reigning titlist Taylor Fritz. Of the three, Tiafoe's 10-3 record at the event is the best, with the American now through to the quarter-finals for the fourth time in his five appearances.

Tiafoe, Fritz among all-American Delray Beach SFs

The last four remaining at the Delray Beach Open are all Americans, including second seed Frances Tiafoe, who advanced to his first semi-final of the year Friday, when he raced past Italian Flavio Cobolli 6-4, 6-2.

Tiafoe won 23 of his 29 first-serve points and was rock solid from the baseline to collect back-to-back match wins for the first time since Vienna last year. Tiafoe's 68-minute victory also ended his five-match skid in tour-level quarter-finals.

"Overall, I thought I played well. I thought I served much better today," Tiafoe said. "He's played a lot of matches going through qualies, so I definitely wanted to get on him early and make it tough for him. I'm really happy with my performance today and I'm excited for tomorrow."

The 26-year-old will next clash against third seed Tommy Paul, who leads their Lexus ATPHead2Head series 2-1. Paul, who last week won the Dallas Open, defeated Australian Jordan Thompson 6-4, 6-3 in Friday's quarters, extending his winning streak to six.

"I thought I kept it cool today and held my own on my serve, I think that was really important," said Paul, who dropped just five points behind his first delivery (23/28).

Tiafoe roared back against Max Purcell for a 4-6, 6-3, 6-0 victory that hinged on the American's five break-point saves early in the second set. Tiafoe also saved two break points to open up a 2-0 lead in the third set before racing through the finish line to extend his winning streak against Australian opponents to six matches.

The 26-year-old Tiafoe is the highest-ranked American remaning in the Acapulco draw after Taylor Fritz and Tommy Paul were both upset on Monday. He will next meet Germany's Dominik Koepfer, a 6-4, 4-6, 6-0 winner against French qualifier Terence Atmane earlier on Tuesday.
