Christian bardzo dobrze spisał się na turnieju we włoskiej Cesanie (15000+H). Doszedł tam do półfinału, pokonując po drodze Chilijczyka Jorge Aguilara (ATP 180). Do skarbczyka rankingowego wpadnie 10 punkcików.

Garin ready to take over from Gonzalez



Chilean fans once again have something to shout about. A year after Fernando Gonzalez announced his retirement, Christian Garin stepped into the breach left by his exuberant predecessor, winning the boys’ singles 6-4, 6-1 in just 66 minutes against Alexander Zverev.

Garin is the third player from Chile to win this trophy, after Marcelo Rios in 1993 and Gonzalez himself in 1998. Unlike those two however, he is already over six feet tall and weighing in at 81 kg at the tender age of 17. Zverev meanwhile is a year younger and far less muscular at this stage of his development, but has a whole host of shots in his armoury – a flat forehand, a varied backhand and a willingness to come to the net to finish off the point.

The German was forced to take far too many risks however, and after Garin broke early, his opponent was always chasing the game. Zverev nevertheless broke back to make it 5-4, but dropped service immediately afterward to finish off the first set 6-4 in 33 minutes.

The German began to lose his sang froid in the second set, sending a goodly number of backhands into the tramlines. Garin broke to lead 2-0, and at 3-1 he saved two break-back points, despite his first service suddenly having gone AWOL.
