ATP FORMS BUSINESS AND ADVISORY BOARDS

Advisory Boards will provide counsel to ATP leadership in future direction of ATP as Executive Chairman & President Chris Kermode undertakes strategic review.

ATP Executive Chairman & President Chris Kermode announced the formation of two new advisory boards on Friday, as the ATP looks to formulate a long-term plan that will build on the recent unprecedented growth and success of men’s professional tennis.

Kermode, working closely with the ATP Board of Directors and ATP senior management, has enlisted the expertise of a Business Advisory Board comprised of senior executives from the worlds of television, marketing, public relations, and lifestyle fashion. In addition, a Legends Advisory Board consisting of former greats of the sport has also been created. The role of both boards is to assist ATP leadership in an advisory capacity as Kermode develops a long-term plan for the ATP.

The Business Advisory Board comprises David Hill (Senior Vice President, 21st Century Fox), Matthew Freud (Chairman, Freuds), Tommy Hilfiger (Principal Designer, Tommy Hilfiger), and Robert Senior (CEO, Saatchi & Saatchi Fallon Group).

The Legends Advisory Board features some of the biggest names in the history of men’s professional tennis, consisting of John McEnroe, Boris Becker, Mats Wilander, Carlos Moya and Lleyton Hewitt. Together, they have held the No. 1 Emirates ATP Ranking for a total of 284 weeks.

“It’s a very exciting time for men’s professional tennis. The sport is in great health and we’ve seen record audiences on site, on television and online. But it’s important that we continue to build and move forward,” said Kermode. “I believe these two advisory boards will provide an invaluable resource for the ATP as we continue to assess which direction to take the sport in the coming years. It’s important that we not only look to take into account the views from people outside the game, but also those of our former players who know our sport inside out. Both these boards will enable us to do that and I look forward to working with them as we evolve our long-term strategy aimed at harnessing the full potential of our sport.”

Both Advisory Boards will meet for the first time on Friday at the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals at The O2 in London.

ATP Business Advisory Board – Background Information:

Matthew Freud is the Chairman of Freuds, the international public relations and marketing company he founded in 1985. He is involved in a wide range of charitable, political and cultural activities, including acting as a Trustee of Comic Relief and sitting on the board of the National Portrait Gallery. He is a former Governor of the British Film Institute and Council member of the Royal College of Art. He was also a member of the Communications Committee for the London 2012 Olympic Games.

David Hill is Senior Executive Vice President, 21st Century Fox, a role in which he focuses on programming, digital initiatives and other opportunities spanning the breadth of the company's operating units across Latin America, Asia, Australia, Europe and the U.S. In 2014, Mr. Hill also added the role of Chairman of National Geographic Channels, U.S., and is a longstanding member of the National Geographic Channels Board of Directors.

Prior to his current role, Mr. Hill served as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, FOX Sports Media Group (FSMG), the umbrella entity representing the company's wide array of multi-platform US-based sports assets, since 1999.

He began his career with the company in Great Britain in 1988, when he helped launch Sky Television, Britain's first satellite TV station, and also introduced Eurosport, a pan-European, multilingual, dedicated sports channel that was a joint venture of Sky Television and the European Broadcast Union. When Sky Television merged with British Sky Broadcasting in 1990, he took charge of BSkyB Sports Channel and created Sky Sports in April 1991 and made it the fastest-growing subscription channel in television history.

Kermode Talks Business Of Storytelling On CNN's Open Court
London, U.K.

Chris Kermode, ATP Executive Chairman and President, features this month on CNN International’s tennis programme, ‘Open Court’.

Kermode spoke with CNN reporter Alex Thomas during the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals about the key to growing tennis globally, the new generation of stars and an era after the ‘Big Four’.

"For me it’s about storytelling," said Kermode. "Sports is a very simple business model. It’s about caring who wins over someone else."

DJOKOVIC, RAONIC FEATURE AT ATP TRAINING CAMP

World No. 1 Novak Djokovic and No. 8 Milos Raonic have been preparing for the 2015 ATP World Tour season at the annual ATP Training Camp in Monte-Carlo.

Held every December since the 1990s, the ATP Training Camp gives players the chance to practise in the mild Monaco weather on the newly resurfaced hard courts of the Monte-Carlo Country Club – where the Monte-Carlo Rolex Masters takes place in April.

Players are able to take advantage of all the facilities at the M.C.C.C., including the gym and discounts for meals and massages. They also have the use of the running track at Stade Louis II in Monaco.

As well as Monaco residents Djokovic and Raonic, Joao Sousa, Andreas Seppi, Marco Cecchinato, Matteo Viola, Sergei Bubka, Filip Krajinovic, Hugo Nys, Stefano Napolitano and Pietro Rondoni have all been at the training camp.

Away from the court, the players are invited to watch AS Monaco play and sign autographs for children at the M.C.C.C. Christmas social.

Chyba coś się we mnie kończy. Tak sobie uzmysłowiłem, że człowiek popada w żenujący relatywizm podyktowany chyba przyzwyczajeniem - niby jednoznacznie coś kontestuje, w tym przypadku obecne ATP, a z szerszej perspektywy okazuje się, że zmienił podejście tylko trochę mniej niż zmienił się sam tenis. Można zachwycać się kurnikami, mniejszymi turniejami, ale na litość, kiedyś przed sezonem człowiek nastawiał się na Szlemy, a nie na jakieś francuskie halowe, w przypadku tego sezonu, badziewia. Wystarczy popatrzeć sobie na ranking z miejsc 11-40 - mnóstwo ciekawych nazwisk, różnych stylów gry - a w żaden sposób, dosłownie w żaden nie wpływa to na atrakcyjność rozgrywek. Albo te ''młode talenty'' - kiedyś człowiek widząc wyczyny Kyrgiosa przy siatce by parsknął śmiechem i szydził jak z jakiegoś Roddicka, z całą sympatią do obu, teraz wystarczy mieć łeb na karku i grać ofensywnie, a już Cię widzą jako remedium na wszelkie problemy. Średnia wieku triumfatorów 18 turniejów tego sezonu to prawie 30 lat, i to tylko dlatego, że Vesely skorzystał z dennej obsady w Auckland...

Więc następnym razem jak ktoś będzie coś pisać o jakiejś jedynej słusznej opcji to ostrzegam, zwyzywam. Trochę żartowaliśmy z redaktora Stopy przy okazji finału w Australii, że koniunkturalizm z niego wyłazi, a sami to samo robimy. Najzabawniejsze, że tak drastyczna zmiana podejścia i tak nie powoduje, że ocena męskiego tenisa jest nawet bliska umiarkowanej. Jeszcze trochę i wszyscy razem z Dawidem będziemy kibicować Raoniciowi, może wtedy.

Raonic jest mi obojętny. Nie kocham go, ale też nie hejtuję. Po prostu uważam, że jakakolwiek nowa twarz w tym marazmie działa na korzyść rozgrywek.

Też przywykłem do starej wersji, jestem z tych staromodnych ludzi, którzy wolą czytać niż oglądać obrazki i wykresy. W podobnym tonie jest ta strona jak oficjalka RG, pewnie się oswoję, ale nie jestem przekonany czy to krok w dobrą stronę.
