Z racji braku uczestnictwa w 4 turniejach ATP500 dostałby 0 punktów, gdyby zbyt późno się wycofał. Wtedy te 0 zastąpiłoby w rankingu 3 najlepszy policzalny wynik z zawodów ATP250 (90 pkt za DB). Nie wydaje mi się jednak, aby dlatego Mardy wychodził z kontuzją na kort. Jeżeli już doszukiwać się jakichś teorii, to pewnie chciał ułatwić JB przejście 1 rundy i tym samym pomóc 007 w dalszej wspinaczce w górę rankingu.

Być może są też jakieś dotkliwe kary za zbyt późne wycofanie się, ale teraz Ci tego nie napiszę, bo co chwila Pani Dyrektor sterczy mi nad głową.

Three places remain up for grabs in the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals eight-man field going into the final tournament of the regular ATP World Tour season, the BNP Paribas Masters, which commences on Monday in Paris.

As it stands, Czech Tomas Berdych, France’s Jo-Wilfried Tsonga and American Mardy Fish hold down the remaining spots at Nos. 6-8 in the South African Airways 2011 ATP Year-To-Date Rankings and as such, any showing that is equal to or better than their rivals next week will see them make the trip to London.

Juan Martin del Potro is still in contention at this week’s Valencia Open 500 and, should he win the title, he would move to No. 9 in the battle for London. In that case, the Argentine would have the chance to snatch one of the remaining berths with a semi-final showing in Paris. If he should lose in the semi-finals or final this weekend, he would need to reach the final of the ATP World Tour Masters 1000 indoor event to be in contention to qualify.

Seeded 12th, del Potro has a tough opener in Paris against either Stanislas Wawrinka or John Isner. Should he advance, he is seeded to meet fellow Finals contender Gael Monfils, the No. 8 seed, in the third round. Monfils, a two-time runner-up at the Palais Omnisports, was beaten in quarter-final action Friday in Valencia and must therefore win the title in his hometown to stand a chance of qualifying.

Nicolas Almagro missed the chance to make up ground in the battle for London this week as he was upset in the first round in Valencia. If the Spaniard is to have a shot at qualifying for the first time, he must reach the final in Paris, but could come across Tsonga in a must-win third-round clash.

Janko Tipsarevic has produced the form of his career this autumn to give himself a shot at qualifying for the season finale, winning his first two ATP World Tour titles in Kuala Lumpur and Moscow, and reaching the St. Petersburg Open final. However, the Serbian was forced to retire in the first round in Basel this week, meaning he must reach the final in Paris to keep his bid alive. The 27 year old, whose best showing at an ATP World Tour Masters 1000 event is reaching the semi-finals in Montreal this summer, is slated to meet Berdych in a key third-round clash.

Gilles Simon still has an outside chance of qualifying, but will need to draw on all the support of his home crowd as he must win the title at Paris-Bercy, an event where he has never advanced past the round of 16. The Frenchman is expected to clash with Fish in the third round.

Okazuje się, że porażka w Walencji może bardzo dużo kosztować naszego debla. Para Butorac/Rojer, po dzisiejszym awansie do finału, przeskoczyła Marcina i Mariusza w deblowym rankingu Race. Polacy zostali zepchnięci na 9 pozycję.

Trzeba liczyć na to, że Bryan Bros. doprowadzą ich do porządku, bo drabinka w Bercy wygląda ciężko i trudno by było odrobić 215 punktów.
Inna sprawa, że wg mnie nie jest fair, że parę Butorac/Rojer obowiązują inne zasady niż resztę czołówki (wyskoczyli z challengerów, więc Szlemy i Mastersy nie liczą im się jako obowiązkowe imprezy).

Ranking ma trochę tych niedokładności tudzież nie do końca sprawiedliwych przepisów. Ja np bym wyrzucił zapis, że Mistrz WS ma z urzędu start. 'Wystarczy' zagrać jedną imprezę w roku i gotowe, a chyba nie o to tu chodzi.

Ranking ma trochę tych niedokładności tudzież nie do końca sprawiedliwych przepisów. Ja np bym wyrzucił zapis, że Mistrz WS ma z urzędu start. 'Wystarczy' zagrać jedną imprezę w roku i gotowe, a chyba nie o to tu chodzi.

Nie jest to prawda, bo musi być jeszcze w Top 20 Choć oczywiście wygrana w Szlemie takie miejsce bez problemu daje. Spójrz na cut-off (zwłaszcza w singlu), przecież wystarczy robić przez resztę sezonu w zasadzie 2R, żeby naciułać te punkty i to akurat mi nie przeszkadza. W deblu gra się co najmniej rundę mniej, więc awansami do niskich faz można nabić znacznie więcej i teoretycznie takiego mistrza WS przegonić, choć i to jest rzadkość (zeszłoroczny przypadek Dżentelmena i Melzera chyba należy zrzucić na karb kontuzji Niemca).

Ale za to inne zasady punktowania wg mnie nie są ok.

Walka o WTF dobiega końca. Berdych, Tsonga i Fish będą spokojni o awans, jeżeli osiągną 1/4 w Bercy. Jeżeli tego nie uczynią, to będą musieli liczyć, żeby Almagro, Tipsar, Simon lub Monfils nie wygrali całej imprezy. Pozamiatane chyba.

Nie jestem tego aż taki pewien. Fish lub Berdych lubią co jakiś czas negatywnie zaskoczyć, a Mardy ponadto miał jakieś kłopoty zdrowotne w Bazylei. W związku z tym pojawia się szansa dla Gaela, którego uważam za drugiego, po Federerze faworyta do zwycięstwa w turnieju.

Isner wyrównał dziś swoją najwyższą pozycję rankingową. Amerykanin jest w tej chwili 18, a jeżeli pokona jutro Tsongę, to zostanie 14 tenisistą świata, a tym samym drugim najwyżej notowanym graczem z USA.

Jeżeli Soderling wróci w nowym sezonie i dojdzie do siebie, to na AO już w IV rundzie wpadnie na kogoś z Top 4. Szanse chyba na to jednak niezbyt wielkie, po tak długim okresie bez gry ciężko będzie wrócić do gry na poziomie 5,6 rakiety świata.

Men's Tennis: Roger Federer, Andy Murray Battle for World No.3



Andy Murray has made it his goal to finish the season ranked third in the world, and he's well on his way to doing so. Roger Federer, presumably, cares less whether he is second, third or fourth. It's the No. 1 that matters for him.

Nevertheless, the gauntlet has been thrown, and here's what Murray needs to do to retain his current ranking, and what Federer needs to do to rob him off it at the very last minute.

Murray has 7,380 points, 710 ahead of Federer.

A player can earn up to 1,500 points in London, if he goes undefeated through the tournament. Each round-robin victory earns the player 200 points. A semifinal win earns an additional 400 points and a final win another 500.

If Federer reaches the final, he'll have 600, 800 or 1,000 points, depending on how many round-robin matches he will have won. If Federer shall take the No. 3 ranking in this scenario, Murray will have to either win no matches at all, while Federer wins two in the round robins (800), or Murray wins one match in the round robins and Federer would then need a perfect run to the finals.

In any other scenario save Federer winning the tournament, Murray gets to be year-end No. 3.

But what if Federer wins it?

Again, he can win the tournament with either one (1,100), two (1,300) or three (1,500) round-robin wins. In the first case, Murray would need to win two matches to stay ahead (by 10 points). In the second, he'll need to win all three (or one plus his semi) and in the third, he would need two round robins wins plus a spot in the final.

If the two are to change positions, it appears Federer needs a damn good tournament. A spot in the final is not likely to do it, but it can if Murray under-performs grossly.

Murray can decide the outcome: Win two round-robin matches and his semifinal, and Federer can't touch him. But anything short of that and Federer might sneak back at No. 3 if he has a perfect or near-perfect tournament.

Federer powrócił na trzecie miejsce w rankingu, ale żeby nie było tak wesoło, dodam, że to najniższa pozycja Rogera na zakończenie sezonu od dziewięciu lat.

Biedny Murray wypruwał sobie żyły w Azji, ale ostateczną walkę o tę trzecią pozycję ze Szwajcarem przegrał, muszę przyznać, najłatwiej jak tylko mógł.
