Tak samo na to patrzę, Thiem jest zbyt ambitny i zbyt młody. Moim zdaniem samo RG wygra ze dwa razy, a na innych nawierzchniach, zwłaszcza twardych już widać, że będzie się liczył.

Ładna kolekcja przegranych finałów.

Madryt 2017, Madryt 2018, Garros 2018, Garros 2019, Tour Finals 2019. Pięć wtop dużych imprez choć tylko z Cipasem grał Dominic decidera, ale mimo wszystko trochę odstawał od Greka. Jakieś tam szanse były jeszcze w Madrycie 2017 bo tam pierwszy set był tajem granym na noże. Jednak podczas dwóch Garrosów Nadal, a w Madrycie 2018 Zworek mocno zdominowali Austriaka. Nie może sobie więc za wiele zazucić Thiem, tym bardziej że gdy się w końcu bardziej załapał na grę w większym finale to potrafił to od razu wykorzystać i ograć Feda w Indian Wells. Można go wręcz pochwalić za zrobienie finałów rok po roku w Paryżu czy szczególnie teraz w londyńskiej hali.

Biggest ATP Rankings Risers Into Top 100
This season, the two biggest risers in the ATP Rankings came from two opposite experience levels. Jannik Sinner, who turned 18 on 16 August, had never played a tour-level match before 2019. But he won 11 matches, including a season-ending triumph at the Next Gen ATP Finals. The youngest player in the Top 100 is up to a career-high World No. 78, one of eight Italians inside the Top 100.

Jo-Wilfried Tsonga has climbed as high as World No. 5, but he began this year at No. 259 due to a left knee injury that kept him out for seven months. The Frenchman bounced back, winning titles in Montpellier and Metz this year to finish the season at No. 29.

Dennis Novak & Dominic Thiem: From Childhood Friends To ATP Cup Teammates

Austrian duo to suit up for singles in Sydney
The childhood bond between Dennis Novak and Dominic Thiem has taken them from junior tournaments in Austria to representing their country at the inaugural ATP Cup. But their close friendship wasn't always seamless. When the pair first became acquainted, their relationship got off to a rocky start.

“When we were 11 or 12 and I didn’t know him very well, I thought he was really arrogant,” Novak said with a smile. “He won almost every single Austrian under-10, under-12 tournament. He was the clear No. 1. I didn’t think he was very sympathetic.”

Novak’s frosty feelings likely didn't change after Thiem “kicked my [butt]” in their first match at an under-14 tournament. But the armor came down when Novak moved to Vienna at age 14 to train at Gunter Bresnik's tennis academy, where Thiem had already spent years under Bresnik’s tutelage.

“After we played and spent a lot of time together, I realised that I saw it from the wrong position,” Novak said. “He’s so down to earth and really nice.”

Novak began training with Dominic’s father, Wolfgang, a longtime coach at the academy who has remained part of his team. The two juniors had only exchanged pleasantries during tournaments, but quickly became inseparable. They attended classes together in school, shared the same facilities for their practise sessions and spent much of their free time together.

“At the beginning, we were almost like the same personality. We were thinking the same way and became really good friends right away,” Novak said. "We were together almost every week until we were 18 or 19, playing junior tournaments and then practising together at the same academy. We were together all the time on the court and in school. We would hang out together when we had time as well.”

Both players turned pro in 2011 and began working their way up the ATP Rankings. The pair even teamed up on home soil at 2016 Kitzbühel and delighted the crowd by advancing to their first ATP Tour doubles final.

But while Thiem cracked the Top 50 just three years after turning pro, Novak’s rise has been a slower burn. The 26-year-old currently sits at No. 109 and has minimal points to defend in the first three months of next year, putting him in prime position to crack the Top 100 for the first time.

Even though Thiem is now part of the highest echelon in the sport, he hasn’t forgotten about his friend. The pair still keep in close contact and spend time together when they’re at the same tournaments. Thiem even sat in the stands to cheer Novak on during his second-round qualifying win this year at Wimbledon.

“It’s unbelievable. He's No. 4 in the world… It’s not usual for a guy like this to go to Roehampton and watch some players,” Novak said. “He has no reason to do that because he has a lot of stuff to do before Wimbledon, so it was very nice of him. It shows that he means it in a good way.”

Novak and Thiem will now get to join forces as they face Croatia, Argentina and Poland in Group E action in Sydney. Although Thiem is Austria's only Top 100 singles player, he’s confident that Novak can take out higher-ranked opponents in their group.

“Dennis is a great player,” Thiem said. “If he’s on fire, he can play way better than his ATP Ranking and he can beat anybody.”

Novak demonstrated last year that he can punch above his weight by scoring his first Top 20 win against Lucas Pouille at Wimbledon. The Austrian also has a proven track record of raising his level in team competitions. With plenty of support from Team Austria in his corner, he’s eager to kick off next season on a strong note.

“I like to be on a team more than on my own,” Novak said. “These are all good matches for me at the beginning of the year, to play Top 30 and Top 40 guys. I think it helps me a lot because I’ve played people at that level before, so it’s nothing new for me, but it will be a different atmosphere being on a team.”

Thiem's Top 3 Pursuit

Dominic Thiem enjoyed another big year on clay by prevailing in Barcelona (d. Medvedev) and Kitzbühel (d. Ramos-Vinolas), in addition to scoring his second runner-up finish at Roland Garros (l. to Nadal), but proved once again that he can excel on other surfaces. He won his first Masters 1000 crown in Indian Wells (d. Federer), took titles in Beijing (d. Tsitsipas) and Vienna (d. Schwartzman), and reached the championship match at the Nitto ATP Finals (l. to Tsitsipas).

An upbeat Dominic Thiem landed on Tuesday in Sydney as he looks to guide Team Austria to a memorable run at the ATP Cup.

Austria will battle Croatia (led by Borna Coric), Argentina (led by Diego Schwartzman) and Poland (led by Hubert Hurkacz) in Group F. Thiem lost to Hurkacz in their lone FedEx ATP Head2Head meeting this past March at the Miami Open presented by Itau, but holds winning records against Coric (3-1) and Schwartzman (5-2).
Thiem, No. 4 in the ATP Rankings, will hope to bring his inspired form from 2019 into the new year. He lifted five ATP Tour titles, including his first ATP Masters 1000 crown at the BNP Paribas Open (d. Federer), and finished runner-up at Roland Garros (l. to Nadal) and the Nitto ATP Finals (l. to Tsitsipas).

Thiem Tops Schwartzman To Clinch Tie For Austria

Dominic Thiem overcame the disappointment of his season-opening loss on Saturday against Borna Coric to bounce back and clinch a tie win for Austria on Monday evening in Sydney at the ATP Cup.
The World No. 4 defeated good friend Diego Schwartzman 6-3, 7-6(3) to lead Austria to a 3-0 victory against Argentina. Thiem now leads Schwartzman 6-2 in their ATP Head2Head series, with five of those victories coming in straight sets.
What Are The Final Eight Qualification Scenarios?
"I'm really happy with the improvement from Saturday to today. good practice session yesterday where I was working on the things which were not that great on Saturday, and today was really I think a match on a high level. Still, here and there some mistakes, which maybe didn't happen towards the end of last year, but in general it was a great match. I think [it was] also enjoyable for the crowd. Many great rallies. I'm very happy."
It was a must-win tie for Austria, who lost to Croatia on Saturday. Austria and Argentina both now hold 1-1 records heading into the final round of Group E matches on Wednesday. Only one team from the group is guaranteed to partake in the Final Eight, which begins Thursday in Sydney. Croatia leads the way with a 2-0 mark.

Thiem came out of the gate focussed, giving few errors away while Schwartzman was still finding his rhythm. The Argentine launched a neutral backhand long to give Thiem the break at 1-1, and that lapse was all the 16-time ATP Tour titlist needed to cruise through the opener. He did not face a break point in the first set.
But with a raucous crowd pushing Schwartzman with chants of “Ole! Ole, Ole, Ole! Ole! Ole!”, the Argentine dug his sneakers into the hard court and battled even harder. There were four straight service breaks to begin the second set, with chants getting louder and louder. Thiem had too much firepower in the end though, with a point in the tie-break — in which Schwartzman ran every which way to track down ball after ball until Thiem finally put a winner away — serving as a good representation of the match.

Dennis Novak earned one of the biggest wins of his career earlier in the evening, upsetting World No. 25 Guido Pella 0-6, 6-4, 6-4 in two hours and 14 minutes to give Austria.
The World No. 105 pushed former World No. 3 Marin Cilic to three sets on Saturday, leading the Croat to say that Novak was playing at a “great level”. The Austrian maintained that against Pella, holding all 10 of his service games across the final two sets to stun the lefty.
"I felt not really good in the beginning. It was a huge difference [from] two days ago, the conditions. I mean, the first set looks quite easy for him," Novak said. "After the first set I went to a toilet break with Thomas, and I came out and changed a little bit my game and fought back in the game. I think at the end I played really good tennis."

Novak admitted that Austria's captain, former World No. 1 Thomas Muster, gave him a "rough speech". But it was clearly productive, with Novak storming back against Pella.
"He just told me to start moving better, hitting the ball, going for it, not waiting for him to miss," Novak said. "That's what I changed. I think I stepped in the court, and I played some really good shots."
This is Novak’s second-biggest win by FedEx ATP Ranking, having defeated then-World No. 19 Lucas Pouille in five sets at Wimbledon two years ago. It is Novak’s 14th tour-level victory.
After the first set, it appeared that triumph would be difficult. Novak won only 39 per cent of his service points in the opening set, getting broken three times, while winning only three return points. But Novak did not shy away from the occasion.
Veterans Oliver Marach and Jurgen Melzer finished off the sweep for Austria with a 6-1, 6-4 win against Maximo Gonzalez and Andres Molteni.

Muster On Thiem: 'I Want To Make Him Better Than I Ever Was'

Dominic Thiem has been hard at work this week at the ATP Cup under the tutelage of Austrian captain Thomas Muster, but it’s not the last time you’ll see the pair together this year.

Thiem announced on Wednesday evening that former World No. 1 Muster will join his coaching team for 20 weeks alongside Nicolas Massu in 2020.

“I think that there are many things that I can still improve. And then of course Thomas is best player of Austria all-time by far, [and he] is the only one who achieved the goals I'm still having,” Thiem said. “I think nothing better can happen to me than to have a guy from my own country to help me hopefully achieve these goals.”

Talks of a potential partnership began last October. They trained together before this event, and their work together in Sydney during the ATP Cup sealed the deal on forming this partnership.

“That was just sort of the last approval here. So we all came together and made this decision basically this week,” Muster said. “We all had to do our homework and studies based on our work relationship that we started and we're just about to start.

“We're happy about that. I think we have a rocky road ahead of us to achieve those goals, but they are manageable and possible. We'll try our best to be as good as possible, actually. We are very happy and look forward to that.”

Muster did not make this commitment lightly, and he has had to make adjustments within his family to accommodate the travel that working with Thiem will require.

“I want to be committed. I think he's got the skills to be, he's one of the top players, but you can take it further. He has the chances to win Grand Slams. We know that,” Muster said. “He has the ability to do that, and I wouldn't have done that for anybody else.

“But when this came up, when we started talking about this opportunity, I really had to pinch myself and go, ‘Well, do I want to do this?’ I said, ‘Yeah, I want to.’ I want to commit myself to this guy, and I want to make him better than I ever was.”

The 44-time tour-level titlist says that he has been asked by other players to join their coaching team, and he has denied those requests. But Muster believes that along with Massu, he can help Thiem reach his goals.

“If I can achieve with him to be No. 1 and to win a Grand Slam, I think he's the only one I ever would have done it for, because to have an Austrian who has that opportunity, you have to kind of commit yourself. It's almost a must,” Muster said. “It is an honour that a player like Dominic is looking back at me and saying, ‘Well, there could be some help for me.’ And I'm happy to put all my knowledge and my experience that I had [from] all those many, many years playing tournaments if I can add some value to his game.”

Thiem won just one of his three matches at the ATP Cup. But after a 2019 during which he won five titles — including an ATP Masters 1000 trophy in Indian Wells — and reached the championship match of the Nitto ATP Finals, the Austrian is excited to start a new chapter in his career, with a former World No. 1 joining his team.

“It's very special, of course. I mean, I also worked hard for it to get these compliments,” Thiem said. “But I still haven't achieved the goals I set for myself, and I really want to do everything to achieve them, to achieve at the highest goal you can get to in tennis… He's the only Austrian who achieved that so far, so I think there is nobody who can help me more than him.”
