Spoiler:
Three Spaniards reach Mallorca quarter-finals
Third seed Roberto Bautista Agut made a successful debut at the Mallorca Championships after defeating Stefano Travaglia 6-3, 7-5 on Wednesday to book a place in the quarter-finals.
“It’s nice to start the tournament playing a good match. I was very focussed and I really wanted to play here in Mallorca,” Bautista Agut said in an on-court interview. “I’m happy that I could pass this first match playing great tennis.
“It’s nice to play in Spain and it’s nice to play with a lot of crowd. Hopefully I can play many more matches here because I really enjoyed tonight.”

Bautista Agut handled his opponent’s big serve, weathering 13 aces from Travaglia as he created six break opportunities. He converted once in each set to seal the victory in an hour and 26 minutes. The third seed will next face Sam Querrey, who received a walkover from Ugo Humbert after the Frenchman withdrew due to abdominal pain
Joining Bautista Agut in the quarter-finals is another Spaniard, fourth seed Pablo Carreno Busta. Along with Feliciano Lopez, who advanced with a milestone victory yesterday, there are now three Spanish players into the quarter-finals of the tournament’s inaugural edition.

Carreno Busta moved on with a 6-4, 6-4 win over Jiri Vesely earlier in the day. The fourth seed stayed calm as his opponent fired nine aces, and he broke serve twice en route to victory.
“I played against him in Australia this year and I won in four sets. Today I didn’t lose a set, but of course it was a tough match,” Carreno Busta said. “I was very focussed on my serves and trying to return as much as possible. happy because for me it’s very important to start the grass season with a victory.”
He will next face Australia’s Jordan Thompson, who advanced to the quarter-finals after defeating qualifier Lukas Klein 6-4, 6-4.

Super Carreno Busta: Spaniard Pablo Carreno Busta is enjoying one of his best-ever clay-court seasons, having won the AnyTech365 Andalucia Open title (d. Munar) in Marbella and reaching the semi-finals at the Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell (l. to Nadal). The 29-year-old holds a 13-4 record on the surface this year and will be the second seed in Hamburg. Carreno Busta has had success at the ATP 500 event before, reaching the semi-finals in 2019.
“I doubt about myself, I think the doubts are good in life. The people who don’t have doubts I think only two things: arrogance or not intelligence.”- Rafa Nadal
"There are other tournaments in which I would like to win. However, in the end, trophies are just pieces of metal. The main thing that I took from tennis is love. She will remain with me forever, and I am sincerely grateful for this “ - David Ferrer

The second seed will next face Lajovic
Second seed Pablo Carreno Busta began his quest for a second ATP Tour title of the season by moving past countryman Carlos Taberner 7-5, 6-3 at the Hamburg European Open on Thursday.
The Spaniard, who lifted the trophy at the AnyTech365 Andalucia Open in Marbella (d. Munar) in April, broke Taberner’s serve five times to advance in one hour and 46 minutes.
”I knew that it was very important at the beginning of the match because it was his fourth match here and it was my first one, so it can be difficult,” Carreno Busta said. “I was very focused on my game, I tried to be aggressive all the time.
”Carlos then started to play more aggressive from 1-4 and hit more winners, so I continued fighting and I am happy as it is important [to get through] the first match.”

Carreno Busta suffered a surprise first-round defeat at Wimbledon to Sam Querrey in June. However, he bounced back on his return and has now recorded 14 wins on clay this year.
The World No. 13 made a strong start as he raced 4-1 ahead against Taberner, playing consistent and composed tennis from the baseline to dictate. While the Spanish qualifier managed to break and then draw level at 4-4, Carreno Busta regained his focus and committed just five unforced errors in the set to move ahead.
Taberner began the second set well and broke as he fired an array of forehand winners past Carreno Busta. However, the second seed crucially saved a break point to stay in touch at 1-2 and then reeled off four straight games as he effectively stepped into the court to dominate. He closed out victory on serve when Taberner pushed a return wide.
How To Watch
Carreno Busta will next face fifth seed Dusan Lajovic after the Serbian booked his spot in a second quarter-final of the season by overcoming qualifier Alex Molcan 6-4, 6-7(2), 6-3. Lajovic, who also reached the last eight on home soil at the Belgrade Open (l. Martin) in May, won 66 per cent (54/82) of his first-service points to advance in two hours and 57 minutes.
Third seed Nikoloz Basilashvili received a walkover against Argentine Sebastian Baez and will next play Laslo Djere.
