Cilic, Millman Land In Same Half Of Singapore Draw
Spoiler:
Mannarino, Bublik feature in top half of ATP 250 draw
Marin Cilic discovered his path to a 19th tour-level title on Saturday, following the Singapore Tennis Open draw.
The 2014 US Open champion is the third seed at the ATP 250, which is being held on a single-year licence at the 3,000-seater OCBC Arena inside the vast Singapore Sports Hub. Cilic, who is aiming to capture his ninth ATP Tour crown on indoor hard courts, will meet Taro Daniel or Ramkumar Ramanathan in his first match of the tournament.
View Singles Draw
Cilic shares the third quarter of the draw with eighth seed Soonwoo Kwon of South Korea. The 32-year-old will attempt to capture his first trophy since the 2018 cinch Championships and move one step closer to joining the exclusive ’20 Club’.
Cilic is two titles away from becoming only the sixth active player to lift 20 tour-level crowns. Roger Federer (103), Rafael Nadal (86), Novak Djokovic (81), Andy Murray (46) and Juan Martin del Potro (22) are the only active players to win 20 or more tour-level events.

Also in the bottom half of the draw is second seed John Millman. The Aussie will try to double his ATP Tour trophy count with Singapore success. Last year’s Nur-Sultan titlist is joined in the fourth quarter by seventh seed Lloyd Harris of South Africa.
In the top half of the draw, Adrian Mannarino and Alexander Bublik lead the way. Top seed Mannarino will bid to reach his fourth ATP Tour final on indoor hard courts (0-3), while fourth seed Bublik will aim to go one step further than his runner-up finish at last month’s Antalya Open (l. to De Minaur). Mannarino shares the top quarter of the draw with sixth seed Radu Albot. Bublik is joined in the second quarter by fifth seed Yoshihito Nishioka.

Cilic Strikes Unique 'Overhead Drop Shot' In Coria Win
Spoiler:
Dzumhur to play second seed Tsitsipas
Across his 11 previous appearances at the Miami Open presented by Itau, Marin Cilic has played many memorable matches and struck countless winners. But in his first-round match on Thursday, the Croatian added a new shot to his repertoire in his 6-3, 2-6, 6-4 victory against Federico Coria.
The former World No. 3 claimed three service breaks to improve to 12-11 at the event after two hours and three minutes. The first of those breaks came in extraordinary fashion, as he mishit an attempted overhead for a drop shot winner.
Cilic, who reached the 2013 Miami semi-finals, won 100 per cent of his first-serve points in the decider (16/16) to book a second-round meeting against 13th seed Cristian Garin. In his only previous ATP Head2Head match against Garin, the Croatian earned a 6-1, 7-6(5) win at the 2019 Cinch Championships.
“Federico played solid,” said Cilic. “He is retrieving a lot of balls back and [he is] a good grinder behind the court. It was important for me to keep my head down, keep the focus and just try to get the best level I could today.”
Another former top five player was unable to advance Thursday. Lucky loser Damir Dzumhur eliminated Kevin Anderson 7-6(6), 7-5 after one hour and 57 minutes.
"I know that my game can be much better than what I'm showing right now and my position in the [FedEx] ATP Rankings can be much better," Dzumhur said. "This win means a lot to me and I hope that this is going to give me enough confidence to continue playing good and to make some good results in the next tournaments."
The World No. 126, who lost in the final round of qualifying against Alejandro Tabilo, will take a 3-1 ATP Head2Head series lead into his clash against second seed Stefanos Tsitsipas.
"I'm going to try to keep going that way. Stefanos is improving his game so much every week," Dzumhur said. "He's one of the best players in the world right now and he's definitely one of the young generation who can come to No. 1."

Former World No. 3 to face Rublev or Fucsovics in Round of 16
Marin Cilic produced a clinical performance on Monday to reach the Miami Open presented by Itau Round of 16.
The 32-year-old earned a single break in each set to defeat #NextGenATP Italian Lorenzo Musetti 6-3, 6-4 in 75 minutes. Cilic is through to the Round of 16 in Miami for the fourth time. The 2014 US Open champion achieved his best result at this ATP Masters 1000 event in 2013, when he reached the semi-finals (l. to Murray).
This marks the first time that Cilic has claimed three consecutive wins since last year’s Australian Open. The World No. 45 survived three-set battles against Federico Coria and 13th seed Cristian Garin to book his first ATP Head2Head meeting against Musetti.
Cilic will meet fourth seed Andrey Rublev or 29th seed Marton Fucsovics for a spot in the quarter-finals. The 2013 semi-finalist owns one win from three ATP Head2Head clashes against Rublev and is unbeaten in two matches against Fucsovics.
Musetti was making his second appearance at a Masters 1000 tournament. The 19-year-old, who is the youngest player in the Top 100 of the FedEx ATP Rankings, claimed straight-sets wins against Michael Mmoh and 23rd seed Benoit Paire in Miami. Musetti also reached the third round on his Masters 1000 debut in Rome last year.

“I doubt about myself, I think the doubts are good in life. The people who don’t have doubts I think only two things: arrogance or not intelligence.”- Rafa Nadal

Former champion Gasquet advances
Marin Cilic got all he could handle from 17-year-old Carlos Alcaraz on Tuesday, but the former World No. 3 clawed past the #NextGenATP Spaniard 6-3, 1-6, 6-4 to reach the second round of the Millennium Estoril Open.
"I'm extremely happy to be here in Portugal, in Estoril for the first time," Cilic said in his on-court interview. "It was a very difficult match. Carlos is a great young talent... Definitely he's got an unbelievable future ahead of him."
Alcaraz showed his fighting spirit by rallying from a break down twice in the third set, pushing the 2014 US Open champion to the limit. But the teen was unable to edge ahead of the Croatian, who broke for a third time in the decider to clinch his two-hour, 14-minute victory when Alcaraz missed a backhand long.
"I was extremely happy to win after dropping the second set. He played really well," Cilic said. "I was a break up in the third set and he broke back. In the end it was just a couple points that made the difference in the match."
Cilic will now play former Mississippi State University standout Nuno Borges for a spot in the quarter-finals. Borges earned his first ATP Tour win on Monday against Jordan Thompson.
"At this point for me, it's important that I focus on myself just to try to play my good game," Cilic said. "Obviously I'll try to play some tactics, what I can during the match. But definitely it will be important for me to serve good, to still play my own game."
