Alexander Zverev guided Germany into the quarter-finals of the 2018 Davis Cup with a commanding 6-2, 7-6(3), 6-2 victory over Australian Nick Kyrgios Sunday in Brisbane.
Zverev was close to untouchable on serve, firing 15 aces, putting 71 per cent of first serves into play and winning 80 per cent of first-serve points. He also fought off all four break points he faced, while breaking Kyrgios four times. Kyrgios had won three of their four career FedEx ATP Head2Head meetings coming to the tie, including when they last met in the China Open semi-finals last year.

Alexander Zverev ditches coach after poor start to season
Spoiler:
World number five Alexander Zverev has parted company with his coach Juan Carlo Ferrero, according to reports.
The former world number one has been working with Zverez since July, initially on a trial basis, but Spanish newspaper Marca report that relationship is now at an end.
Marca reports that that situation is ‘insuperable’, with the pair at odds over off-court matters, with Ferrero hoping to improve the German’s professionalism while Zverev himself is keen to enjoy more personal freedom.
Zverev has had a tough start to the year with disappointing performances in both the Australian Open and Rotterdam.
For the short term at least, the German’s father, Alexander Zverev Sr., a former Soviet tennis player will step into the breach, with Boris Becker also taking a more active role in the 20-year-old’s development.
Ojojoj, pachnie to jakimś kyrgiosowaniem, by nie powiedzieć tomicowaniem.

Jeszcze dzieciak stał się milionerem, mimo wszystko to nie jest takie proste by zachować zupełną normalność, ważne by najbliższe osoby potrafiły go wyprostować - Ojciec.

Zverev Finds A Way To First QF Of 2018
Spoiler:
German will next meet Harrison
He might have preferred a tidier match, but Alexander Zverev will definitely be happy with his result from the Abierto Mexicano Telcel presentado por HSBC in Acapulco on Wednesday. The second seed saved three set points in the first set and eventually overcame countryman Peter Gojowczyk 7-6(6), 6-3 to move into the quarter-finals in Mexico.
Zverev was serving at 5-6 in the first set but fell behind 15/40 only to save both set points, and in the tie-break, he erased another set point at 5/6. A break at 4-3 in the second set sealed the match.
The World No. 5 converted both of his break-point chances while erasing eight of the nine break points he faced. Gojowczyk had been playing well, too, having reached his second ATP World Tour final at the Delray Beach Open on Sunday (l. to #NextGenATP Tiafoe).
Zverev, in his first quarter-final of the season, will meet Ryan Harrison of the U.S., who handed Argentina's Diego Schwartzman his first loss in six matches 6-3, 5-7, 6-4. Harrison, who reached the semi-finals at 2015 Acapulco, won nearly 60 per cent of Schwartzman's second-serve points.
Sixth seed Juan Martin del Potro was pushed all the way in a three-set tussle with four-time champion David Ferrer on Wednesday night. With 47 ATP World Tour singles titles between them, it was del Potro who extended his recent success over the Spaniard with a 6-4, 4-6, 6-3 second-round win.
Del Potro’s victory levelled their FedEx ATP Head2Head series at 6-6. He has now claimed their past three encounters, including a win in the Auckland semi-finals to start the season.
With scores tied at a set apiece, it was del Potro who landed the crucial break in the deciding set for 4-2. He served it out after two hours and 26 minutes to set a quarter-final showdown with third seed Dominic Thiem, an earlier winner over #NextGenATP player Denis Shapovalov.
DID YOU KNOW?
During his breakout 2017, Zverev reached 12 quarter-finals and won five ATP World Tour titles.

Juan Carlos Ferrero: 'Zverev was always late at practice sessions'
After Alexander Zverev spoke about the reasons for his split with his coach Juan Carlos Ferrero, the former Spanish player was interviewed by Marca and he revealed several interesting things. Zverev's character particularly bothered Ferrero.
'From day one, I asked him the team's respect. Among other things, I asked him to be sharper. I was telling him that it wasn't okay to be late for 20 or 30 minutes every day at the practice sessions.
I was telling him that more discipline would have been very good to improve his tennis.' He also added, 'The first [few] months he was more disciplined and respectful. Then when we knew each other he didn't respect the guidelines I laid down at the beginning.' Still, Ferrero has some good memories: 'I helped him to win his first two Masters: in Rome, I gave him suggestions through the mobile phone, and in Canada in person, along with [helping him win the] Washington title.
I was very happy. I thank him for recently saying that I am a great worker. That's what I was taught: work, discipline, humility and respect for others.

Teraz przed Niemcem start w BNP Paribas Open 2018.
- Wszyscy mówią o Wielkich Szlemach, ale ja zdobyłem dwa tytuły Masters 1000, więc wiem, czego potrzeba, aby wygrywać największe turnieje i pokonywać w nich największych rywali.
Pierwszy mecz w Indian Wells Zverev rozegra w niedzielę. Jego rywalem będzie Michaił Jużny bądź Joao Sousa.
