We wrześniu Borna Corić w złych relacjach rozstał się ze swoim wieloletnim szkoleniowcem, Riccardo Piattim. - Od roku były między nami różnice. Po US Open usiedliśmy razem przy stole i postanowiliśmy zakończyć naszą współpracę - mówił wówczas.
Po zakończeniu współpracy z Piattim Coriciowi pomagał Antonio Veić, jednak Chorwat nie ukrywał, że poszukuje odpowiedniego dla siebie fachowca. I, jak poinformował portal ubitennis.net, znalazł go w osobie Martina Stepanka.

Stepanka polecił Coriciowi kolega z reprezentacji narodowej, Ivan Dodig. Czech w przeszłości pracował ze swoimi rodakami - byłym czwartym singlistą świata Tomasem Berdychem oraz świetnym deblistą Lukasem Dlouhym. - Mam nadzieję, że razem zrobimy kluczowy krok we właściwym kierunku. Potrzebowałem nowych bodźców i motywacji - powiedział tenisista z Zagrzebia, który - za namową nowego trenera - w ostatnich dniach występował w rozgrywkach ligi czeskiej.

Nowego szkoleniowca ma również Kyle Edmund. Po rozstaniu z Fredrikiem Rosengrenem, który doprowadził go do półfinału Australian Open 2018 i najlepszej "15" rankingu ATP, Brytyjczyk przez kilka tygodni pracował z Markiem Hyltonem. Teraz jego trenerem będzie Franco Davin.

Davin to bardzo znana postać w tenisowym środowisku. Przez wiele lat był trenerem Juana Martina del Potro, który pod jego wodzą wygrał US Open 2009. W zeszłym sezonie pracował natomiast z Fabio Fogninim. Włoch pod okiem Argentyńczyka miał znakomite rozgrywki - zdobył największy tytuł w karierze (wygrał turniej ATP Masters 1000 w Monte Carlo) oraz awansował do czołowej "10" rankingu ATP.

Corić i Edmund liczą, że dzięki nowym trenerom zrobią postęp i odbudują swoje pozycje w męskiej elicie. Chorwat był już 12. singlistą świata, ale miniony sezon ukończył na 28. lokacie. Z kolei Brytyjczyk zajmował 14. miejsce, a aktualnie jest 69.

Edmund Battles To Victory In Auckland

Brit Kyle Edmund dug deep on Tuesday at the ASB Classic in Auckland, battling through a rain delay and the tricky game of Spaniard Alejandro Davidovich Fokina to advance 6-2, 4-6, 6-3.

Rain took the players off the court for nearly 90 minutes with Davidovich Fokina serving at 2-6, 5-4. The Spaniard leveled the match when play resumed, but Edmund regrouped to pick up his first win of the season. He'll face seventh-seeded Frenchman Adrian Mannarino or Italian Andreas Seppi in the next round.

Canadian qualifier Vasek Pospisil continued his career resurgence with a convincing 6-4, 6-2 victory over Portuguese Joao Sousa, runner-up three years ago in Auckland (l. to Sock). Pospisil wrapped up last season with a third-round showing at the ATP Masters 1000 event in Shanghai and back-to back ATP Challenger Tour titles. Next up is a blockbuster second-round clash with second seed and fellow Canadian Denis Shapovalov.

The Brit won 86 per cent (30/35) of his first-serve points en route to prevailing in one hour and 44 minutes. Edmund Powers Into New York Final

Seppi defeats Jung on Saturday

Eighth-seeded Brit Kyle Edmund wasted no time getting down to business on Saturday at the New York Open, racing into the final with a 6-1, 6-4 win over sixth seed and #NextGenATP Serbian Miomir Kecmanovic.

”This is great to be back in a final, playing the matches you want to be playing,” Edmund said. “I obviously want to go all the way, but I’m enjoying my tennis. I’ve kept improving and learning with each match.”

Edmund is through to his first tour-level final in 16 months, when he captured his maiden ATP Tour crown in Antwerp (d. Monfils). The 25-year-old has dropped just one set this week and moves to 6-3 this season.
The first five games of the match went to deuce, but Edmund came out on top in all of them. Striking his forehand with authority, he used that wing to bully Kecmanovic throughout their baseline exchanges. The Serbian scored a moral victory by holding serve at 0-5, but Edmund comfortably grabbed the early advantage in the next game.

Kecmanovic raised his level in the second set and stayed with Edmund throughout most of it, but the Brit found a new gear in the final minutes of the match. Edmund took 12 of the last 13 points, breaking his opponent to love at 4-4 and firing three aces in the next game to wrap up play after 72 minutes.
Standing between Edmund and his second ATP Tour title is Italian Andreas Seppi, who ended the dream run of qualifier Jason Jung of Chinese Taipei with a 6-3, 6-2 win. The 35-year-old, currently No. 98 in the FedEx ATP Rankings, seeks his first tour-level crown since 2012 Moscow (d. Bellucci).

Edmund leads his ATP Head2Head series with Seppi 4-1, including a victory last month in Auckland.

"When you're in the semi-finals or final, of course you want to win the title. Tomorrow is another chance and I'll just try my best," Seppi said. "[Jung] is coming through the qualifying and had some great wins. He has a really solid game and it was my best match of the week. I played really well from the beginning to the end, very solid, no mistakes."
Perhaps feeling the effects of five matches in the previous six days, Jung's groundstrokes were not as reliable as they had been throughout the week. He dropped serve in the opening game and struggled to handle the variety of spins from the Italian. Seppi raced to a 4-1 lead and coaxed another baseline error out of Jung as the qualifier served at 3-5, enabling him to break again and take the opening set.

Seppi continued to pour it on the second set, breaking Jung to love for a commanding 3-1 lead. He racked up 13 break points throughout the night and converted five, including one on match point, to prevail in one hour and 24 minutes.

Edmund Sprints To New York Title

Brit defeats Seppi on Sunday
Eighth-seeded Brit Kyle Edmund saved his best tennis for last on Sunday at the New York Open, winning eight of the last nine games in a comprehensive 7-5, 6-1 victory over Italian Andreas Seppi to take the title.

Edmund picked up his second ATP Tour crown, with his maiden trophy coming 16 months ago in Antwerp (d. Monfils). The 25-year-old improved to 7-3 this year and now leads Seppi 5-1 in their ATP Head2Head series, including a straight-sets victory last month in Auckland.

”There’s a lot hard work throughout the year, a lot of ups and downs that you don’t see behind the scenes. To win this title means a lot to me,” Edmund said.

Seppi put in an outstanding effort to reach the final after saving a match point in his opening-round win against Damir Dzumhur of Bosnia-Herzegovina. The 35-year-old is still seeking his first ATP Tour crown since 2012 Moscow (d. Bellucci) and dropped to 3-7 in tour-level finals.

”He played a good match today and he deserved to win,” Seppi said. “I enjoyed my time on this court and played some good matches this week. I’ll take the positives from here and move forward.”

Both players traded comfortable service holds throughout most of the opening set. But with Seppi serving at 5-6, Edmund raised his level and added even more velocity to his groundstrokes. Using his forehand to push Seppi around the baseline, he earned a pair of set points and let out a roar after converting his first chance with a down-the-line backhand winner.

The grueling baseline rallies took their toll on Seppi in the second set and Edmund capitalised, grabbing 12 of the first 15 points for a 3-0 lead. The Brit continued to apply pressure in return games while remaining flawless on serve. The Brit dropped just eight service points throughout the day and won 94 per cent (31/33) of his first-serve points.

Edmund prevailed in another lengthy rally at 1-4 and earned an insurance break after the Italian pushed a slice backhand long. The Brit then closed out the match on his first try after one hour and 22 minutes.

Edmund earned 250 FedEx ATP Rankings points and a cheque for $120,635. Seppi picked up 150 points and $66,770.

Kyle Edmund continued his top form by scoring a 6-4, 6-4 upset against fourth-seeded Canadian Felix Auger-Aliassime. The Brit scored the lone break in each set to advance after one hour and 43 minutes. Auger-Aliassime had won nine of his past 11 matches after runner-up showings this month in Rotterdam (l. to Monfils) and Marseille (l. to Tsitsipas).

Edmund is also enjoying a strong run and extended his winning streak to seven matches. He captured his second ATP Tour title two weeks ago in New York (d. Seppi).

“He’s won a lot of matches and he’s seeing the ball big. Like him, I’m on a decent run as well,” Edmund said. “I liked how I created chances in both sets early. Overall, against a Top 20 player, it was a good result. I’m very pleased."
