Spoiler:
Shapovalov, de Minaur, Fritz also advance on Tuesday
#NextGenATP American Frances Tiafoe is a win away from his best Grand Slam result after the 20-year-old gutted out a 7-6(6), 7-6(5), 3-6, 6-3 upset against 30th seed Fernando Verdasco of Spain, a 2013 Wimbledon quarter-finalist.
Serving for the match at 5-3 in the fourth set, Tiafoe kept his nerves in check, erasing five break points before converting his second match point. The Delray Beach Open champion has now reached the second round of a Grand Slam on three occasions. Tiafoe fell to Alexander Zverev in both of his previous Round of 64 appearances, at The Championships last year and earlier this season at the Australian Open.

The good news: Tiafoe will not face Zverev next at SW19. The American will meet Frenchman Julien Benneteau, who beat Marton Fucsovics of Hungary 7-5, 7-5, 6-3.
Canada's #NextGenATP star Denis Shapovalov, the 26th seed, hit 21 aces and beat the in-form Jeremy Chardy of France 6-3, 3-6, 7-5, 6-4. Chardy had won seven of his nine tour-level grass-court matches this season, making the final of the Libema Open in 's-Hertogenbosch (l. to Gasquet) and the semi-finals at the Fever-Tree Championships in London (l. to Djokovic). Shapovalov will next meet another Frenchman in Benoit Paire, who beat Jason Jung 7-5, 7-6(1), 6-4.
Aussie Alex de Minaur beat unlikely Roland Garros semi-finalist Marco Ceccchinato of Italy 6-4, 6-7(6), 7-6(5), 6-4 to earn his first win at Wimbledon and only his second at a Grand Slam championship (2017 Australian Open). The 19-year-old Aussie won his first ATP Challenger Tour title last month at the grass-court Nature Valley Open in Nottingham and is in fifth place in the ATP Race To Milan, which will determine seven of the eight players who compete at the Next Gen ATP Finals, to be held 6-10 November in Milan. The winner of an all-Italian qualifying tournament will receive the eighth spot.
De Minaur will next meet Frenchman Pierre-Hugues Herbert, who hit 13 aces and swept German Mischa Zverev 6-4, 6-3, 6-4. Zverev won his first ATP World Tour title on Saturday at the Nature Valley International in Eastbourne.
#NextGenATP American Taylor Fritz also picked up his second Grand Slam victory (2017 US Open), coming back to beat Italian Lorenzo Sonego 3-6, 6-3, 6-2, 6-2. Fritz will next meet Alexander Zverev, the fourth seed who's coming off his first Grand Slam quarter-final at Roland Garros. Zverev beat Aussie James Duckworth 7-5, 6-2, 6-0.
