Spoiler:
Juan Martin del Potro breaks up more than a decade of dominance in the Coachella Valley by his opponent in the final, Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal, who have won 13 of the past 15 BNP Paribas Open titles (including today's championship).
Heading into the final, Federer, Nadal, and Djokovic had accounted for 13 of the past 14 Indian Wells titles, dating back to 2004, when Federer captured the first of his five trophies. The only exception in that timeframe occurred in 2010, when Croatia’s Ivan Ljubicic clinched the championship.

Professor Federer With A Quote To Remember
I think staying positive through the tough moments is really key. Because you're always going to go through ups and downs in your career, or as a person for that matter. Not every day is sun-shining. It's sometimes a bit of a struggle and important that you take the right decisions; you surround yourself with the right people; you're happy with what you have. Of course you can always try to want more and have more and everything, but you might never be happy when you search for things like this. I have been content for a long, long time on the Tour. I guess ever since I became World No. 1 back in 2004 and won Wimbledon in 2003, my life was complete as a tennis player. Those were my dreams as a little kid. So that's why retirement can wait, and I'm just really enjoying the ride. Yeah, I'm really having a good time on the Tour. And I think by having had problems of my own in '16, I think maybe people saw -- it hasn't always come easy for me, as well, because people like to see the easy part, how I make it look easy. It's not always like that. For nobody it's like that at the top. Yeah, it's a good story. When I can inspire and motivate people through my story, that's obviously a great thing.

3-3 In The Decider!
Roger Federer has lost just four points on his serve in the final set. The key? First-serve per centage. The Swiss has landed 75 per cent of first serves, winning 10 of those 12 points. In the second set, he made just 57 per cent of first serves, winning 81 per cent of those points.

Federer Survives To Force A Decider!
WHAT. A. TIE-BREAK!
After saving a championship point on his own serve at 7/8, Roger Federer converts on his sixth set point to even the match at a set apiece, 4-6, 7-6(8).
The tie-break was tense the entire way. Federer held a 6/3 lead, and after it appeared he won the set with a big first serve, a challenge showed it was out. The Swiss double-faulted to give Del Potro hope. But the Argentine hit an inside-out forehand into the net at 8/7 on championship point, and now we're heading to a decider, as Del Potro floated a low backhand volley long at 8/9.

Who Will Crack First?
Five-time Indian Wells champion Roger Federer, who seeks a record sixth title in the Coachella Valley, grabs a 6-5 lead in the second set, holding to 30. The big stat that sticks out: second-serve points won in the match.
Del Potro: 13/19, 68 per cent
Federer: 11/23, 48 per cent
Each player has only double-faulted once in the match. Will that come into play?

Del Potro Saves Set Points!
What a turnaround! Federer earned two break points and set points out of nowhere, but a big forehand saves the first, before the Swiss pulls a crosscourt forehand just wide to lose his second opportunity.
Federer saved a game point to get back to Deuce, but a backhand volley punch-away and a missed forehand long by the World No. 1 help the Argentine level the set at 5-5.
