Hey everyone.. Just wanted to write a little message on here for anyone interested in what in going through right now.

Firstly I want to apologise to @brisbanetennis for withdrawing at late notice and to everyone who wanted to come along to watch me play(or lose) The organisers couldn't have been more understanding and supportive and I'll always remember that. Thank you.

I've obviously been going through a really difficult period with my hip for a long time and have sought council from a number of hip specialists. Having been recommended to treat my hip conservatively since the US Open I have done everything asked of me from a rehab perspective and worked extremely hard to try get back on the court competing. Having played practice sets here in Brisbane with some top players unfortunately this hasn't worked yet to get me to the level I would like so I have to reassess my options. Obviously continuing rehab is one option and giving my hip more time to recover. Surgery is also an option but the chances of a successful outcome are not as I high as I would like which has made this my secondary option and my hope has been to avoid that. However this is something I may have to consider but let's hope not.

I choose this pic as the little kid inside me just wants to play tennis and Compete.. I genuinely miss it so much and i would give anything to be back out there. I didn't realise until these last few months just how much I love this game. Everytime I wake up from sleeping or napping i hope that it's better and it's quite demoralising when you get on the court it's not at the level you need it to be to compete at this level.

In the short term I'm going to be staying in Australia for the next couple of days to see if my hip settles down a bit and will decide by the weekend whether to stay out here or fly home to assess what I do next.

Sorry for the long post but I wanted to keep everyone in the loop and get this off my chest as it's really hurting inside.

Andy Murray has released a heartfelt statement to his social media followers after withdrawing from the Brisbane International presented by Suncorp on Tuesday.

The two-time champion at the Queensland event was hoping to make his long-awaited return to the ATP World Tour this week after a hip injury has seen him spend six months on the sidelines. Murray, who hasn’t played a competitive match since July 2017 at Wimbledon, apologised to the tournament and fans before providing an update on the status of his injury via Instagram.

Murray revealed he had not been happy with his level when playing practice sets against fellow players in Brisbane and now has to take time to assess his options moving forward with the injury.

“I have to reassess my options," said Murray. "Obviously continuing rehab is one option, giving my hip more time to recover. Surgery is also an option but the chances of a successful outcome are not as high as I would like, which has made this my secondary option and my hope has been to avoid that. Aussie won't budge on early morning practice negotiations with Murray

All seemed well for Andy Murray when he spoke to Nick Kyrgios at the Brisbane International presented by Suncorp earlier this week to arrange a practice session.

The British No.1 spoke to Kyrgios, hoping to arrange an early morning hit ahead of the start of the 2018 ATP World Tour season but the 22-year-old, sensing an opportunity for competition, quickly fired back with his own request.

“He was actually trying to organise a hit for me at 8am,” revealed Kyrgios. “I [said], Andy, I'm not going to make that hit."

The initial response from the World No. 21 gave Murray food for thought but with both men standing strong, negotiations eventually broke down.

“I offered him 9am. I thought 9am is pretty good and then he said 8am. I [said] no, you're going to have to find someone else.”

The light-hearted standoff between the two friends eventually took an unfortunate turn with Murray being forced to withdraw from the tournament.

“I saw him the next day and he told me he pulled out,” said Kyrgios. “It's pretty sad; he's definitely a fan favourite. He brings a lot of the people to all these tournaments and he's a good friend of mine.

“It's never good seeing a guy like that get injured, especially because he's just good for the sport. He's a good guy as well.”

Andy Murray: Three-time Grand Slam champion out of Australian Open with injury

Britain's Andy Murray has pulled out of the Australian Open after failing to recover from an ongoing hip injury.

The three-time Grand Slam champion has not played a competitive match since Wimbledon last summer.

Murray, 30, boarded a flight from Brisbane to Melbourne at noon local time on Thursday but his ultimate destination will be London and not the Rod Laver Arena.

The Australian Open starts on 15 January.

"Sadly I won't be playing in Melbourne this year, as I am not yet ready to compete," Murray said.

"I'll be flying home shortly to assess all the options but I appreciate all the messages of support and I hope to be back playing soon," he added.

Australian Open tournament director Craig Tiley said: "We are fully aware that Andy has been going through a difficult period with his hip and that he's done everything possible to prepare for the Australian summer.

"Personally, I also know that Andy loves tennis and would do anything to play. This is a very hard decision for Andy and we totally respect it."

Former world number one Murray has slipped to 16th in the rankings since he was beaten by America's Sam Querrey in the Wimbledon quarter-finals last summer.

He attempted to return at the US Open in August but pulled out two days before the start of the tournament.

The Scot's most recent match was a one-set exhibition match against Roberto Bautista Agut in Abu Dhabi last week.

He also played an exhibition match against Roger Federer in November, losing 6-3 3-6 10-6 to the 2017 Australian Open and Wimbledon champion.

Murray had hoped to make his return proper at this week's Brisbane International tournament, but withdrew 48 hours before his first match with the American Ryan Harrison.

In an emotional post on social media, Murray explained how demoralising it is to be short of fitness despite six months of painstaking rehabilitation. He stressed surgery was still something he wanted to avoid, but that it was now something he may have to consider.

Andy Murray: British number one has surgery on hip injury

Britain's Andy Murray has had hip surgery in Melbourne and says he hopes to be playing again in time for this summer's grass-court season.

The former world number one, 30, has not played a competitive match since he was knocked out of Wimbledon in July.

The ongoing problem forced the Scot to pull out of the Australian Open, which begins on 15 January.

"I'm not finished playing tennis yet. I'm going to be competing at the highest level again," he said.

"I'm very optimistic about the future - the surgeon is very happy about how it went."

Murray, a three-time Grand Slam champion, believes if he can return to 95% of his best, that will be enough for him to compete again at the top level.

He hopes he will be hitting balls on court again after seven or eight weeks, and has been given 14 weeks as a guide for a return from this kind of surgery.

But he said he is not "interested in coming back for a specific tournament".

"My plan is to be back playing around the grass-court season - potentially before then - but I'm certainly not going to rush anything," he said.

"I want to know when I come back that I'm ready."

'My hip will feel better than a year ago, when I was world number one'
Murray withdrew from the US Open two days before the start of the tournament in August last year, and said he realised he was not ready to compete in Brisbane last week when he tested his hip against other top-50 players.

"I want to come back when I'm fit and ready to play, not to get into a situation like in Brisbane or New York, where I'm unsure when I turn up at a tournament how fit I am," he said.

Murray has not played a competitive match since his Wimbledon quarter-final defeat by Sam Querrey on 12 July.

He said he first felt pain in his right hip during June's French Open semi-final against Stan Wawrinka, though he has had issues with it throughout his career.

"The surgeon felt that my hip will be feeling better than it did a year ago," Murray said. "Obviously, I was still doing fine a year ago - I was ranked number one in the world.

"I'm certainly not going to be putting in the same amount of tournaments and effort to try to get to number one in the world. I'll be playing a reduced schedule, and then focusing more on trying to win major events and big tournaments rather than trying to achieve certain ranking goals.

"I've been fairly competitive with top-50 players in the world in Brisbane when I'm struggling to move, and I made the quarter-finals at Wimbledon when I literally couldn't walk and was in so much pain.

"So if I can get myself to 95% of my best, I believe that's enough to compete at the highest level. No question.

"The rest of my body feels fantastic. I feel really, really good physically apart from this one issue. The surgery allows me to extend my hip well, and I'll be able to sprint."

'My daughter watching me play is motivating me'
Murray said it has been painful for him to walk since before Wimbledon. Though he has become accustomed to soreness in his hip, the pain he has had since last summer has had an impact on his day-to-day life.

It has also emerged that he had minor groin surgery on 18 December. That was successful in relieving some of the pain he had been experiencing, and was the reason for delaying his departure to Australia until after Christmas.

Should Murray's rehabilitation goes to plan, he will have been out of action for almost a year by the time he returns.

And he says he would like to play until eldest daughter Sophia, who was born in February 2016, is able to watch him and have "a small understanding of what it is I've done for my living".

"That would be cool if she can come along and watch me hit some balls or practise just to see what it is I do," he added.

"I like watching and seeing a lot of the other kids when they are on the tour with their parents."

Murray’s eldest daughter, Sophia, will be two years old in February.
