Dodatkowo wydaje mi się, że Serbka to tak nie bardzo lubi jakiś bat nad sobą. Taki trener - kumpel to nie jest do końca dobre wyjście. Oczywiście dobrze jest gdy trener i zawodnik się lubią, ale czasem potrzeba też dystansu i opieprzu. Takie luźne, przyjazne relacje raczej to uniemożliwiają.

TOKYO SHOWDOWN: RADWANSKA VS BENCIC

Agnieszka Radwanska ended the giant-killing run of Dominika Cibulkova to reach the Toray Pan Pacific Open final and get within one win of her first WTA title in more than a year.

Cibulkova may have been unseeded this week, but she was anything but underestimated - a former Top 10 player working her way back up the rankings after Achilles surgery earlier in the year, she upset a pair of seeds along the way in No.6 seed Carla Suárez Navarro and No.2 seed Ana Ivanovic.

And it looked like her run would continue as she stormed out to a 4-2 lead against the No.7-seeded Radwanska - but the match turned on a dime from there as Radwanska started hitting all her targets, and she rattled off 10 of the next 11 games to completely run away with it in straight sets, 6-4, 6-1.

The former World No.2 won 16 of the last 19 points of the match, and the last seven straight.

"I'm just so happy to be in the final here for the third time," Radwanska said afterwards. "I think this is the only tournament I've been to the final of three times, so it's for sure a special place for me!"

Incidentally, she was right about that stat - this is the first WTA event she's been to the finals of three times (she also won the title here in 2011 and finished runner-up to Nadia Petrova in 2012).

Awaiting Radwanska in the final will be the No.8 seed, Belinda Bencic, who pulled off an upset over No.1 seed Caroline Wozniacki in the first semifinal of the day (read more about that match here).

Bencic beat Radwanska in the pair's only previous meeting, in the Eastbourne final in June.

"I'm ready, but she's definitely on fire," Radwanska said. "She's had a great season, beating pretty much all the top players on the way. We played one final on grass, so we'll see how it's going to be on hardcourts, but for sure it's not going to be an easy match. I'll try my best, of course.

"I'll just try to do revenge and we'll see how it goes tomorrow."

The doubles final also took place on Saturday, with No.3 seeds Suárez Navarro and Garbiñe Muguruza outdoing No.2 seeds Chan Hao-Ching and Chan Yung-Jan for the title, 7-5, 6-1. The Spaniards now have three WTA doubles titles together, having already won Stanford in 2014 and Birmingham in June.

IRINA-CAMELIA BEGU CONQUERS SEOUL

South Korea - Irina-Camelia Begu ended the breakthrough run of Belarusian qualifier Aliaksandra Sasnovich on Sunday to win the second WTA title of her career at the Korea Open Tennis.

After trading breaks twice early on en route to 3-all, Begu took it to a whole new level, reeling off eight games in a row to build a seemingly insurmountable 6-3, 5-0 lead. Sasnovich held at love to stop the streak, but the No.1-seeded Begu then served it out for a 6-3, 6-1 championship victory.

"I think the key today was to stay calm and make my opponent run more, and I think I was successful in those. I was also hitting the balls deep and close to the lines," Begu described. "I also think I was better on the important points - I wasn't dominating every game, but I did better on the big points."

Begu now has two WTA titles to her name, having conquered Tashkent, Uzbekistan back in 2012.

"I'm so happy to win my first WTA title in three years - it's been a long time, and I've improved a lot, I think," Begu said. "I've learned a lot from many matches and many experiences, and most of all I think I've become much more consistent when I'm playing. I feel totally different from three years ago."

Begu was asked how important a win this was for Romania - and how big tennis is back home, too.

"I think it's important because tennis is really famous there right now," she said. "We have so many players in the Top 100, and there are so many fans of tennis back home. They support us so well."

The World No.29 is projected to rise to No.26 now, bettering her previous career-high of No.28.

It was still a fantastic week for Sasnovich too, though - the Belarusian WTA Rising Star battled her way through the qualifying draw and made it all the way to her first WTA final, having not even been to the quarterfinals of a WTA event before. She even took out two of the Top 3 seeds along the way, beating No.3 seed Sloane Stephens in the quarters and No.2 seed Anna Karolina Schmiedlova in the semis.

The doubles final was played later in the day and saw No.1 seeds Lara Arruabarrena and Andrea Klepac rally from a set down to take out No.2 seeds Kiki Bertens and Johanna Larsson, 2-6, 6-3, 10-6.

It was Arruabarrena and Klepac's first WTA doubles title together. Arruabarrena, one of Spain's top WTA Rising Stars, now has five WTA doubles titles to her name, Slovenian veteran Klepac four.

Last week, Ivanovic saw the defense of her Tokyo title come to an end at the hands of bête noire Dominika Cibulkova. However, the Serb picked herself up to register a tidy 6-1, 6-3 win over Dulgheru.

"At the beginning of the first set in the first game I was a little nervous, but luckily I wasn't behind for long," Ivanovic said. "As the match went on I really tried to step it up a little more and I managed to get the break.

"I'm really happy to get the win and be in the second round here."

Krecze Sharapovej i Bencic (z Zahlavovą i Giorgi), chyba jeszcze nie wszystko w porządku z Rosjanką. Nie wygląda na to by miała być konkurencyjna w końcówce sezonu.

Łatwe zwycięstwo Halep nad Pawluczekovą, spodziewałem się nieco lepszego spotkania. Bardzo dużo psuła Rosjanka, próbowała dużo wygrywać returnem, kilka razy się udało, ale generalnie wyszło więcej szkody niż pożytku. Rumunka spokojnie, solidnie, bezproblemowo. Z turnieju wypadły jeszcze Wozniacki i kontuzjowana Azarenka.

Ogólnie mało publiczności na tym spotkaniu, nie widzę sensu organizacji turnieju, bo Li tam się urodziła. Obecnie damski tenis w Azji nie cieszy się jakimś wielkim zainteresowaniem miejscowych, brakuje gwiazd i osobowości, które by przyciągnęły, a do miejscowości takiej jak Wuhan wielu europejskich kibiców nie przyjedzie. Ja bym zorganizował jakiś duży turniej w Szanghaju i połączył z ATP zamiast rozgrywać te wszystkie popierdółki w Uzbekistanie czy Korei. Jeśli ten ostatni byłby turniejem ATP to chociaż Chung przyciągnąłby widzów, ale Pań spod znaku tygrysa nie widać nawet poza top 50.

Ogólnie to marzy mi się powrót poważnych halowych turniejów w Europie pod koniec sezonu. Stuttgart (albo coś w zamian, bo ten ceglany w kwietniu też nie jest zły), Zurych, poważniej traktowane Linz i Moskwa oraz turniej mistrzyń rozgrywany na starym kontynencie to byłoby coś.

Można by trochę pokombinować w kalendarzu, znaleźć miejsce na jakieś azjatyckie imprezy, ale w obecnej formie jest tego za dużo, co w połączeniu z marnym zainteresowaniem ze strony kibiców (ludzie przychodzą tylko na gwiazdy, w dodatku męskie, stąd Pekin jeszcze jakoś się broni) nie tworzy nic przyjemnego dla wciąż jeszcze istniejących fanów damskiego tenisa.

Widzę jakieś szanse na zmiany w obliczu rezygnacji Stacey, choć z drugiej strony Azja to bogaty rynek, więc pewnie bardziej opłaca się grać przy tych pustych stadionach...

Potężny zjazd zaliczyła Simona w meczu z Kontą. O ile w pierwszym secie bardzo solidnie grała Brytyjka i trudno mieć do Rumunki pretensje za przegranie tej partii o tyle w dalszej fazie meczu było już gorzej. Obniżyła loty Johana i straciła drugą partię, ale to nie oznaczało lepszej gry najwyższej rozstawionej. Grając tak sobie Halep doprowadziła do stanu 5-1 w trzecim i popłynęła do bazy. Duży sukces niżej notowanej, ale jednak nieco wstydliwa wpadka Rumunki, nie była dziś sobą, trudno było Jej się skupić i złapać rytm na dłużej.

Dalej gra Angelique Kerbe, Niemka nie miała większych problemów z Giorgi. U Włoszki bez zmian. Pierwszy set słaby, błąd za błędem, w drugim piłka siedziała nieco lepiej, więc było nawet po 4, ale to tyle.

VENUS WINS BIGGEST TITLE IN FIVE YEARS

It may not have ended the way she wanted, but Venus Williams won her biggest title in more than five years at the Premier 5-level Dongfeng Motor Wuhan Open on Saturday afternoon.

The early goings were close - the unseeded Williams and Garbiñe Muguruza, the No.5 seed, traded breaks twice in the first seven games, with Williams emerging out of that up 4-3 in the first set.

But from there Muguruza, hampered by a left ankle injury, saw her level drop off while Williams' just got better, and after losing five straight games and the scoreline at 6-3, 3-0, Muguruza retired.

At the end of the day, though, Williams collected the 47th WTA title of her illustrious career, and more importantly her biggest in more than five years - her last title at the Premier 5 level or higher came at another Premier 5-level event, the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships, in February 2010.

She very nearly didn't even make the final, though. Williams had to rally from 5-3 down in the third set to edge inspired British qualifier Johanna Konta in the quarterfinals, 6-4, 3-6, 7-5, and she was even down match point during a 5-7, 6-2, 7-6(4) semifinal nail-biter over No.15 seed Roberta Vinci.

But there's a reason Williams is a former World No.1 and seven-time Grand Slam champion - that fighting spirit came out every time she was down, and now the American lifts her latest WTA trophy.

The two players took the podium to address the crowd during the post-final trophy ceremony.

"Well, this is a sad day today," said Muguruza, who went first. "I'm very sorry I had to retire today, but I had a really amazing week here in Wuhan. I felt so much support from the crowd - it was great.

"Also, I really want to congratulate Venus. She's always such a tough player and she had an amazing week, as well. For sure we'll play again soon, and it's going to be a tough match, of course."

"Congratulations Garbiñe for making the final," Williams said. "I know you had a tough match yesterday - it's not easy when you don't play your best, and I probably didn't have a chance if you felt well!"

Neither player will leave empty-handed though. They're both projected to make major moves up the WTA Rankings - Williams from No.24 to No.14 and Muguruza from No.8 to No.5, her Top 5 debut. They're both also projected to rise into the Top 8 spots on the Road To Singapore leaderboard, too, Muguruza from No.11 and Williams all the way from No.23 - with only eight players making it into the BNP Paribas WTA Finals Singapore presented by SC Global field, those are both huge moves.
