W lutym 2013 roku Elina Switolina po raz pierwszy znalazła się w Top 100 rankingu. W sezonie 2015 Ukrainka osiągnęła ćwierćfinał wielkoszlemowego Rolanda Garrosa i zadebiutowała w czołowej "20".
W 2012 roku Elina Switolina zadebiutowała w WTA Tour, a w kolejnym sezonie była już w czołowej "40" rankingu. W ciągu następnych dwóch lat Ukrainka czyniła kolejne awanse: 2014 zakończyła jako 29. rakieta globu, a na koniec 2015 znalazła się na 19. pozycji (w sierpniu była na najwyższym w karierze 15. miejscu). Później udowodniła, że rezultat w Paryżu nie był dziełem przypadku. Latem w USA zanotowała półfinały w Stanfordzie i Cincinnati. W tej drugiej imprezie odprawiła Lucie Safarovą. W tym momencie trzeba wrócić do początku roku, bo już wtedy pokazała się ze świetnej strony. W drodze do półfinału w Brisbane odprawiła Andżelikę Kerber, a następnie urwała po secie Serenie Williams (Australian Open) i Petrze Kvitovej (Dubaj).
Ukrainka w tym roku pokonała dwie tenisistki z czołowej "10" rankingu. - Oczywiście to najlepszy sezon w mojej karierze. Zakończyłam go w Top 20, więc jestem szczęśliwa - powiedziała po porażce z Karolíną Plíškovą w półfinale turnieju WTA w Zhuhai. Switolina szybko stała się tenisistką szerokiej czołówki, ale samo utrzymanie tej pozycji będzie ją kosztowało mnóstwo wysiłku. - Są pewne rzeczy, które potrzebuję zmienić, nie tylko w mojej grze, ale i w przygotowaniu. To już jednak przeszłość, teraz myśli o tym, co ją czeka. - Na co dzień trenuję w jednej z akademii w Nicei, ale w przyszłym roku wszystko się może zmienić. W okresie przygotowawczym planuję spędzić kilka tygodni w Abu Zabi, aby uodpornić się na grę w trudnych warunkach. Właśnie tam do mojego zespołu dołączy nowy specjalista od przygotowania fizycznego. Trener pozostaje ten sam [Iain Hughes]. - mówiła Ukrainka w listopadzie. Wystąpiła w rozgrywanej w Indiach Tenisowej Lidze Mistrzów. Z drużyną Punjab Marshalls wygrała całe rozgrywki, w których w singlowych pojedynkach okazała się lepsza m.in. od Flavii Pennetty i Martiny Hingis.

Dobrze jest coś odświeżyć, ale nadal będę pracować z moim trenerem, Iainem, który bardzo wiele wniósł do mojej gry. Zobaczymy jak to będzie wyglądało z Justine. Oczywiście jest to niesamowita okazja, bo to wielka mistrzyni - mówiła Ukrainka dla portalu sport360.com.
Ukrainka jest jedną z pięciu tenisistek w czołowej "20" mających 23 lata i mniej. Jest coraz więcej młodych zawodniczek, dobijających się do szerokiej czołówki. - Każda z nas ma w sobie coś specjalnego. Ta wewnętrzna rywalizacja wpływa na mnie motywująco. W tym roku byłam regularna, utrzymałam formę z początku sezonu. Oczywiście, było też trochę porażek i niepowodzeń, ale bez nich nie wiedziałabym, co mam jeszcze poprawić - mówiła dla agencji ASAP. Switolina może w przyszłości nadawać ton kobiecym rozgrywkom. Uważam, że ma na to większe szanse niż Karolína Plíšková, Belinda Bencić i Madison Keys. Trudno tak naprawdę wskazać jedno wiodące zagranie w grze Switoliny, bo zarówno forhendem, jak i bekhendem potrafi długo utrzymywać piłkę w korcie oraz posyłać kończące uderzenia z obu stron. - Elina jest obecnie jedną z najlepszych tenisistek młodego pokolenia. Wcześniej spotkałyśmy się ze sobą jeden raz, ale uważam, że gramy podobny tenis, więc czułam się, jakbym rywalizowała ze sobą, co było trochę dziwne - mówiła Agnieszka Radwańska, która we wrześniu pokonała Ukrainkę w drodze po tytuł w Tokio. Trudno jednoznacznie stwierdzić, że Switolina jest lustrzanym odbiciem krakowianki, bo w defensywie nie jest jeszcze tak cierpliwa. Switolina jako tenisistka bardzo szybko dojrzewa. Można bez przesady stwierdzić, że już dawno przestała być brzydkim kaczątkiem, choć daleko jej do zostania pięknym łabędziem. W krótkim okresie niesamowicie poprawiła poruszanie się po korcie. Przeszła metamorfozę i z dziewczyny monotonnej stała się wszechstronną, przekraczającą kolejne bariery we wzbogacaniu swojej tenisowej filozofii. Ukrainka jest kandydatką na gwiazdę pierwszej wielkości. Jestem przekonany, że w kolejnym sezonie znowu nas czymś zaskoczy. Do doskonałości jej daleko, przede wszystkim jeśli chodzi o pracę nóg, ale ma dopiero 21 lat. Strach się bać co się wydarzy, gdy w tym elemencie rozkwitnie w pełni.

- Elina Svitolina took home her fifth career WTA title on Sunday, dismissing Peng Shuai, 6-3, 6-2, to win the Taiwan Open.
"This morning I just decided to give 100%, even 150% if there's such a thing, in this match," she said in her post-match press conference. "It's a final, so you always want to be at the top of your game, but it's not always possible.
"Obviously, your opponent is going to come out confident because she's also in the final and deserves to be there as much as you do. That's why I just tried to give everything on the court, be focused for each point.
"Today, I was playing very well, and stayed solid mentally and physically; that's a positive. I came here to Taipei trying to improve my game, to push myself and see what I could do. This week, then, was very positive."
Up to a career-high of No.13, the Ukrainian youngster was facing a familiar foe in Peng, who began her surge back up the rankings last fall after back surgery by winning the Tianjin Open. The Chinese veteran had won their only previous encounter coming into Sunday's final at the 2014 Connecticut Open - just before she reached her maiden Grand Slam semifinal at the US Open.
"She's always been really aggressive from the baseline," Svitolina said when asked about her opponent. "The change was in myself because when I played her in 2014, I physically much worse, which is why she had the opportunity to get on top of my game.
"I changed a lot; I improved my serve, return, and baseline game. The difference came down more to me than her, because I played more solid today."
Fighting back from an early break in both sets, Svitolina credited her mental ascendency as being essential not only to her victory in Taipei City, but also in her march towards a potential Top 10 debut in 2017.
"I'm No.13 in the world, so you expect players higher in the rankings to be able to raise their level in tight situations. It happened today at a good moment, and I think I was trying to find this in myself.
"Some days, it doesn't work, but others, when you try again and again, it works in the end. I was very positive and tried to be in the moment, give everything that I had. We were both tired; it was the end of the tournament, and the nerves are always there.
"Finals come down to who can handle nerves better, and so I think I can take a lot of positives from this week. It was a great trip to Taipei."
With a fifth International level title under her belt, Svitolina aims to better her career-best rankings at the bigger tournaments - particularly at the majors, where she has reached the quarterfinals just once at the 2015 French Open.
"The Grand Slams are the main goals, and we're trying to prepare ourselves to be ready for those. But each WTA tournament is very important, every match is an opportunity for me to bring my game to the table. You can only be high in the ranking if you play a good game, and consistency is one of the keys to being on top."
In the doubles final, hometown favorites and top flight doubles team Chan Hao-Ching and Chan Yung-Jan defended their title, defeating the Czech duo of Lucie Hradecka and Katerina Siniakova, 6-4, 6-2 in one hour and 11 minutes on court.
"We did very well in the first set and continued the good form through to second," Hao-Ching said after the match. "I think we communicate well and our strategy worked.
"We are able to beat many great teams and we're going quite well. Look forward to winning more titles."
"We didn't start quite well this year without a win before we started Taiwan but really glad that we could defend the title back home," Yung-Jan added.
"We complement each other very well. And we believe we are the right one for each other."

CHAMPIONS CORNER: SVITOLINA SAILS TO CAREER-BEST TITLE IN DUBAI

- Elina Svitolina is riding high after her big victory at the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships, her second title of the year.
Svitolina dropped just one set en route to the title - posting back-to-back wins over Angelique Kerber and Caroline Wozniacki along the way - and on Monday the Ukrainian will be rewarded with her WTA Top 10 debut.
WTA Insider caught up with Svitolina after a whirlwind week in Dubai, where she capped off a 12-match winning streak with the biggest title of her career.
Insider: Congratulations Svitolina. You're the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships champion, inside the WTA Top 10, and No.2 on the Road To Singapore Leaderboard - are you overwhelmed?
Svitolina: No, I try just to focus on my game when I go on court, and everything I just leave behind. For me it's very important to be mentally there - don't think, don't let bad thoughts do bad things with my game.
So I don't really think about it. But of course, if I had lost somewhere I would feel it. Like, "come on, you did something good!" Now I'm winning and winning and I want more and more, so that's why I try to focus on my game.
Insider: Every season for you has been better and better. It's been a steady climb, without the ups and downs of other young players. How do you describe your level of ambition?
Svitolina: I always try to take one step at a time. It's very important for me to not rush things, and to stay very positive with myself. I did a lot of work with all the coaches I've had and my new team, so it's always nice to have different opinions on my game. With Justine as well, it was an amazing year.
I'm very happy with the way I'm playing now. Of course, there's so many things that I need to work on, and I'm looking forward to new challenges.
Insider: What's the most fun thing about being a professional tennis player?
Svitolina: I think matches like this. A final, where you have so much pressure, when you have this kind of emotions, you just want to win so badly and achieve your goals, your dreams. This desire, this feeling is what makes you go crazy and work really hard.
That's what I love about tennis - there's always these small achievements that you have and it always drives you to go for more and work harder.
Insider: Was there ever a moment when that was difficult? You're in a 12-match winning streak, but in the past has it been difficult to find that motivation?
Svitolina: Of course there's been ups and downs with me, with my game and with my career. There will be more in the future. The only thing I can do is accept this and work hard and go on court, the gym, work even harder and always have this goal in my mind. That's what drives me. I think I'm very lucky that it's been going very consistently.
Insider: This is the biggest title of your career - after winning five International-level tournaments, does this win feel like you've proved something?
Svitolina: I was just trying to play my best and always try to fight, even when it's not working well or it's a bad day, try to fight over and over again. Because when I'm playing well, I've already proved myself. When I'm playing well, I can play top tennis. I try to always find this in myself - sometimes it doesn't work but I try to accept it and work and work and work.
Insider: What are the areas of your game you think you still need to improve?
Svitolina: I need to sit with my coaches and go through this tournament, because there are many things to work on. Now it's tough to say because I won the tournament. Those wins brought me a lot of confidence, but still I want to learn more and more. I want to achieve a different level, and I'm sure I can improve and learn to play smarter.
Insider: And finally, you've got two tattoos on your right hand, "om" and "carpe diem" - what do they mean to you?
Svitolina: For me there's been tough moments in my life and I'm very proud of the way I've handled everything. Even in this final, I was in the moment. So I try to just enjoy the moment. And I was very emotional when I was young, I couldn't stay calm. Of course, this comes with experience.
This is just life - I try to learn every day something new. It's very exciting, the life I have now, playing tennis and achieving my goals. And of course I'm very lucky as well.

Svitolina shocks Halep, soars to fourth title of 2017 in Rome

Elina Svitolina returns to the Top 10 and ascends to the top of the Porsche Race to Singapore leaderboard after winning her eighth career title at the Internazionali BNL d'Italia, defeating former World No.2 Simona Halep, 4-6, 7-5, 6-1.
"Every single day, everyone is working very hard," Svitolina said of winning her second Premier 5 title. "They are waiting for these kind of moments when there is a right moment and the right day.
"I think I can be proud of myself for handling the pressure, because I played some tough matches here. Today I needed to show that I am there and I want to win and I'm ready to do it."
The No.8 seed is in the midst of a career-best season, winning back-to-back titles at the Taiwan Open and Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships, and kicking off the clay court season with another win at the TEB BNP Paribas Istanbul Cup.
Svitolina won her first match in six meetings against No.2 seed Karolina Pliskova en route to the final, and faced her toughest test yet in Halep, who was aiming for the elusive Madrid-Rome double last earned in 2013 by 23-time Grand Slam champion Serena Williams.
"I saw she was really like playing and moving really good. It was kind of expected that she would be tired.
"So I was trying to stay there, to put the pressure and to be there in the right moment, to be ready, at least to give myself a chance to come back in the second set."
The Romanian eased out to a 5-2 lead to start the match only to roll her ankle as she closed in on the opening set, eventually clinching it two games later as the Ukrainian youngster began working her way into the match.
"At 5-3 in the second set, I turned to hit an inside out forehand, I felt it again," Halep explained after the match. "That's why I called to tape it, because I was scared not to do something worse.
"I never like to give up during the match. I don't want to stop the matches. So I just wanted to try to win the second set."
Taking a 3-1 and later a 5-3 lead in the second, Svitolina held off several fightbacks from Halep to break and level the match in the 12th game, starting a string of seven straight games to put herself on the brink of victory.
Halep held down 0-5 and gave Svitolina all she could handle in a riveting final game, but the new PRTS No.1 held on to take the win after two hours and seven minutes on court.
