Nagrody ATP na koniec sezonu

Dobrze, że można głosować poprzeż podanie maila. Nie wszyscy mają konto na facebooku, a przecież o to chodzi, aby jak nawięcej osób głosowało.

To jest fakt, ale z drugiej strony ktoś może głosować po 8-10 razy *czy nawet założyć więcej adresów e-mail), przez co to głosowanie traci pewną wiarygodność.

Mnie to najbardziej śmieszy obecność Chardy'ego w nominacjach do most improved. Przecież Jeremy w 2009 zajmował już podobne lokaty, a spadek zaliczył tylko przez swoje podejście do gry, które szczególnie w zeszłym sezonie było delikatnie mówiąc takie sobie, pomijam już fakt, że w 2009 roku grał o wiele lepiej niż teraz.

ATP rozdało nagrody za sezon 2012. Obyło się bez niespodzianek, choć zaskakujący jest dla mnie wybór Kliżana, a nie Janowicza w kategorii "Odkrycie sezonu".

Prawdopodobnie wyboru dokonano jeszcze przed (najpóźniej w trakcie) turnieju w Bercy, więc finał Jurka nie miał żadnego wpływu na rozdanie tych nagród. Może to i dobrze? Kliżan błysnął w kilku poważnych imprezach cyklu, a Janowicz (choć był dużo bardziej spektakularny) jednak ciągle nie potwierdził kilkoma udanym startami swojej pozycji w ATP. Czas zweryfikuje.

No i niezależnie od występu Jerzego w Paryżu, Kliżan tak czy owak miałby szansę na tę nagrodę.

Roger Federer receives three honours in the 2013 ATP World Tour Awards presented by Moët & Chandon, while Rafael Nadal wins Comeback Player of the Year and can clinch the ATP World Tour No. 1 presented by Emirates award at this week’s Barclays ATP World Tour Finals.

Federer has been selected by his peers as winner of the Stefan Edberg Sportsmanship Award for a ninth time and by fans as the ATPWorldTour.com Fans’ Favourite presented by Moët & Chandon for an 11th straight year. In addition, the 32-year-old Swiss has been named the Arthur Ashe Humanitarian of the Year for a second time in recognition of his foundation’s support of children in Africa and Switzerland. Since 2003, Federer has won a record total of 27 ATP World Tour Awards.

As winner of Comeback Player of the Year, Nadal becomes the first to clinch awards in all the player-voted categories. The 27-year-old Spaniard won Newcomer in 2003, Most Improved in 2005 and Stefan Edberg Sportsmanship in 2010. He was also awarded as the Arthur Ashe Humanitarian in 2011 and can claim ATP World Tour No. 1 presented by Emirates for a third time (2008, 2010) this week in London. Novak Djokovic kept his hopes alive in the battle for the year-end No. 1 Emirates ATP Ranking with his triumph at the BNP Paribas Masters title on Sunday.

Americans Bob and Mike Bryan sweep the doubles awards for a fifth straight year, taking home ATP World Tour No. 1 Doubles Team presented by Emirates and ATPWorldTour.com Fans’ Favourite presented by Moët & Chandon for a record ninth time each.

Players will receive their awards, crafted by Tipperary Crystal, in on-court ceremonies at The O2 throughout the week. The ATP Tournament of the Year awards will be announced in 2014.

ATP World Tour No. 1 presented by Emirates

Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic will battle for the year-end No. 1 Emirates ATP Ranking at this week’s Barclays ATP World Tour Finals. Both players are two-time winners of ATP World Tour No. 1 presented by Emirates, with Nadal claiming the honours in 2008 and 2010 and Djokovic in 2011-12.

Bob and Mike Bryan: The Americans will finish as the No. 1 duo in the Emirates ATP Doubles Team Rankings for a fifth successive year and record ninth time overall (2003, '05-07, '09-13). The 35-year-old twins guaranteed their year-end No. 1 ranking on 19 August, the earliest clinch by a doubles team. The Bryans won their 11th title of the season on Sunday at the BNP Paribas Masters, their fifth ATP World Tour Masters 1000 trophy of 2013. They won the Australian Open, Roland Garros and Wimbledon – making them the first team to hold all four majors and the Olympic gold medal at the same time – and ended up just shy of completing the calendar-year Grand Slam with a loss in the US Open semi-finals.

Jiri Vesely: This new category, replacing the player-voted Newcomer of the Year, is awarded to the youngest player who finished in the Top 100 of Emirates ATP Rankings (as of 28 October). Vesely, who began the season ranked outside the Top 250, broke into the Top 100 on 8 July – two days before his 20th birthday – and reached a career-high No. 78 by August. The Czech made his tour-level main draw debut as a qualifier at Roland Garros and also won three ATP Challenger Tour titles from five finals.

Most Improved Player of the Year

Pablo Carreno Busta: The Spaniard climbed from a year-end No. 715 Emirates ATP Ranking last season to a career-high No. 66 in 2013, beginning with an impressive effort on the Futures circuit that saw him win 35 straight matches and seven titles from eight finals. As a qualifier on the ATP World Tour, he recorded his first tour-level win in Casablanca, reached the Oeiras semi-finals and made his Grand Slam debut at Roland Garros. The 22 year old also excelled on the ATP Challenger Tour, going 4-0 in finals.

Comeback Player of the Year

Rafael Nadal: After being sidelined for seven months with a left knee injury, the Spaniard made his return this past February and advanced to nine straight finals to start the season – reaching 13 total from 16 tournament appearances in 2013. Among his 10 titles, Nadal claimed his eighth Roland Garros crown, his second US Open championship, and a record-tying five ATP World Tour Masters 1000 trophies in a single season. He also went undefeated on hard courts (26-0) through the Beijing final, when he finished runner-up to Novak Djokovic. Despite the loss, Nadal – who began the season at No. 4 in the Emirates ATP Rankings – overtook the Serbian at the top on 7 October.

Stefan Edberg Sportsmanship Award

Roger Federer: Fellow players voted the Swiss as the winner of the Stefan Edberg Sportsmanship Award for the ninth time and third year in a row. He also won the award six straight years from 2004-09. Juan Martin del Potro, David Ferrer and Rafael Nadal were also nominated in this category.

Arthur Ashe Humanitarian of the Year

Roger Federer: The 32 year old becomes just the third person to be named the Arthur Ashe Humanitarian of the Year for a second time, joining Andre Agassi and Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi. Federer, who previously received the award in 2006, supports children in Zambia, Zimbabwe, Botswana, Malawi, South Africa and Ethiopia and his native Switzerland through the Roger Federer Foundation, established in 2003. This past February, Federer visited the Hlukani and Govhu crèches in the Limpopo Province of South Africa, which have been supported by Foundation partner READ Educational Trust since 2010.

ALJAZ BEDENE
After a left wrist injury brought his 2014 to an abrupt end, Slovenian-turned Brit Bedene has returned to the ATP World Tour and is enjoying one of the most productive campaigns of his seven-year pro career. In the first week of the 2015 season the 26-year-old qualified for Chennai, then went on to defeat three of the top five seeds en route to his first ATP World Tour final (l. to Stan Wawrinka). In July, he dispatched No. 23-ranked Roberto Bautista Agut in two tie-break sets in the second round in Hamburg, and later this summer he saved two match points to defeat No. 11 Gilles Simon in Winston-Salem.
JOHN MILLMAN
A serious shoulder injury suffered midway through 2013 had the 26-year-old doubting whether he could play at an elite level again. But he kicked off 2015 by pushing 17-time Grand Slam champion Roger Federer to three sets in his hometown of Brisbane. After upsetting Tommy Robredo to reach the second round at Wimbledon, he claimed a pair of Challenger titles in Lexington and Aptos. In the fall, he again took out Robredo in reaching the Round of 16 in Beijing.
BENOIT PAIRE
Paire had been lingering inside the Top 50 for a few years when a left knee injury forced him to struggle through 2014. But it didn’t take long for the talented Frenchman to regain his footing this year. He took out No. 28 seed Fabio Fognini en route to the third round at Roland Garros (l. to Tomas Berdych), and the following month captured his first ATP World Tour title in Bastad (d. Robredo), becoming the sixth first-time titlist of 2015. In doing so, he also became the first player since Steve Darcis in 2007 to win an ATP World Tour, ATP Challenger Tour and ITF Futures title in the same season. But arguably his greatest moment came at the US Open, where he shocked World No. 4 and defending champion Kei Nishikori in the opening round in five sets. It marked his third Top-10 win and first over a Top-5 opponent. In October, he fell short in his bid for second career title, losing to top seed Wawrinka in the Tokyo final. He backed up his US Open upset of Nishikori by beating the Japanese star in the semi-finals.
JACK SOCK
The American has had much to overcome in 2015. Due to hip surgery, he didn’t play his first match until Indian Wells in March. His knee kept him from playing at 100 percent during a first-round loss at Wimbledon. After winning the first two sets of his second-round match against Ruben Bemelmans at the US Open, he collapsed to the court, a victim of the soaring humidity. But as the 23-year-old noted via Twitter, “life is full of speed bumps, but I'll be back even stronger.” In the midst of it all, he captured his first ATP World Tour title in Houston (d. Sam Querrey), recording four straight wins over seeded players in the process. In May, he recorded his eighth Top-20 win over No. 11 Grigor Dimitrov at Roland Garros, where he went on to become the youngest American into the fourth round since Pete Sampras in 1993. He made his Davis Cup debut in September, leading the US back into World Group with a pair of singles wins against Uzbekistan. In October, Sock teamed with Vasek Pospisil for their fourth career doubles title in Beijing.
