Roger Federer przybył do Perth. Poznał kolejny gatunek australijskiej fauny
Spoiler:
Roger Federer przyleciał już do Perth, gdzie będzie największą gwiazdą Pucharu Hopmana 2018. Ostatnie dni przed rozpoczęciem zmagań utytułowany Szwajcar poświęcił na treningi i poznanie
Roger Federer pozuje do zdjęć z dwoma osobnikami kuoki krótkoogonowej.
Rywalami Szwajcarów w Grupie B będą Japończycy (30 grudnia), Rosjanie (2 stycznia) i Amerykanie (4 stycznia). Wielki finał zaplanowano na sobotę, 6 stycznia.

Young stars target Hopman highs
Spoiler:
The Mastercard Hopman Cup has a rich history of showcasing the best young tennis talent to the world.
Roger Federer, complete with fabulous ponytail, hoisted the trophy as a 19-year old in 2001, while a fresh-faced Serena Williams won the first of two Mastercard Hopman Cup titles when she first represented USA in 2003.
Both have gone on to be firmly in the discussion of the greatest tennis players of all time, and both kick-started their careers in Perth.
More recently, Nick Kyrgios launched the best year of his career after helping Australia win the title in 2016, while last year we witnessed the rise of Alexander Zverev.
So who of this year’s crop could go on to bigger and better things in 2018?
Australian young gun Thanasi Kokkinakis (21-years-old), Russian rocket Karen Khachanov (22), Japanese up-and-comer Naomi Osaka (20), and talented Belgian Elise Mertens (22) all make their Mastercard Hopman Cup debuts this week ahead of an Australian summer they are determined to shine through.
Local tennis fans will have their eyes firmly fixated on Kokkinakis and how he handles the rigours of a busy and exciting tennis week.
The South Australian burst onto the world stage in 2015 as a fresh-faced teenager with a booming serve and whipping forehand capable of upsetting the best on the tour.
But injuries subsequently plagued the exciting young star, with a variety of ailments forcing him to the sidelines for much of 2016.
Kokkinakis returned to top-flight tennis in 2017 with victories over Milos Raonic at Queen’s and Tomas Berdych in Mexico reminding the world how talented he really is.
Although it feels like the Adelaide local has been on the tennis circuit for an eternity already, at only 21-years-old, his best tennis is still firmly in front of him. And with a bit of luck, the crowds at the Mastercard Hopman Cup will have a front row seat for his renaissance.
Belgian Elise Mertens is among a new generation of fresh-faced phenoms making their mark on the tennis world stage.
The 22-year-old enjoyed a 2017 to remember. She saluted for the first time in her career at the Hobart International; reached a second final at Istanbul; was nominated for the WTA’s Newcomer of the Year award, and finished the season with a career high ranking of 35.
Mertens trains at the Kim Clijsters Academy in Bree and will be attempting to channel some of her mentor’s finest tennis during her time in Australia.
Mertens will join forces with the gifted David Goffin this week, with the pair’s unbeaten record in Fed and Davis Cup competitions in 2017 ensuring they will be one of the teams to beat at Mastercard Hopman Cup.
Russian powerhouse Karen Khachanov lands in Perth for the first time fresh off a year to remember.
The man they call ‘Djan’ finished the year ranked No.45 in the world after peaking at No.29 in August following two months of tennis where he was only defeated by the class of Roger Federer, Andy Murray, Rafael Nadal and Jo-Wilfried Tsonga.
Khachanov’s 2017 highlight reel included a spirited French Open campaign where he defeated both Tomas Berdych and John Isner on the way to a fourth round loss to Murray; a semifinal loss to Federer at Halle; and quarterfinal appearances in Barcelona, Lyon, Bastad and Hamburg.
The 198cm Russian shares much in common with former world No.1 countryman Marat Safin – including a huge serve and thumping forehand that has him primed for bigger and better things in 2018.
Aggressive baseliner Naomi Osaka will be lining up in her maiden Mastercard Hopman Cup as Japan return to our shores for the first time since 2001.
Osaka is a rising star of Asian tennis and the highest ranked Japanese lady in the world (68). She possesses a powerful serve, loves to play attacking tennis, and is capable of delivering winners from both sides of her body.
Osaka reached the third round of all four Grand Slams in 2017, springing an enormous surprise at Flushing Meadows by dispatching defending US Open champion Angelique Kerber in the first round in straight sets.
Interestingly, Osaka is coached by Sam Stosur’s old mentor David Taylor, with her game style being compared to the same one that carried Stosur to the top of the tennis world.
Osaka will be a thrill to watch on the opening day of Mastercard Hopman Cup as she takes on fellow youngster Belinda Bencic in her opening singles match.
Puchar Hopmana: czas na 30. edycję turnieju. Roger Federer i Andżelika Kerber sprawdzą formę przed Australian Open
Spoiler:
Puchar Hopmana 2018 zostanie rozegrany w dniach 30 grudnia - 6 stycznia. Na starcie zabraknie mistrzów poprzedniej edycji, Francuzów. W Grupie A znalazły się reprezentacje Niemiec, Kanady, Belgii i Australii, natomiast Grupę B tworzą Szwajcaria, USA, Rosja i Japonia.
Składy drużyn uczestniczących w Pucharze Hopmana 2018:
GRUPA A
Niemcy (Andżelika Kerber i Alexander Zverev)
Kanada (Eugenie Bouchard i Vasek Pospisil)
Belgia (Elise Mertens i David Goffin)
Australia (Daria Gawriłowa i Thanasi Kokkinakis)
GRUPA B
Szwajcaria (Belinda Bencić i Roger Federer)
USA (Coco Vandeweghe i Jack Sock)
Rosja (Anastazja Pawluczenkowa i Karen Chaczanow)
Japonia (Naomi Osaka i Yuichi Sugita)
- Puchar Hopmana to idealne przygotowanie do Australian Open - przyznał Alexander Zverev.
