Qualifying rounds: roll on Monday!

Roland-Garros 2018 is here! The tournament begins on Monday (21st May) with the qualifying rounds, with the men getting things underway at 10am.

There are some 128 contenders, all competing to clinch one of sixteen places in the main draw. Sixteen Frenchmen are hoping to play their way into one of these hotly-contested spots: Benjamin Bonzi, Kenny de Schepper, Quentin Halys, Antoine Hoang, Constant Lestienne, Stéphane Robert and Gleb Sakharov, as well as Jaimée-Floyd Angele, Geoffrey Blancaneaux, Corentin Denolly, Evan Furness, Hugo Gaston, Hugo Grenier, Ugo Humbert, Alexandre Muller and Johan Tatlot, who have been given a wildcard. The draw for the men’s qualifying rounds will take place on Sunday 20th May, at 6pm in Roland-Garros stadium.

The women’s qualifying rounds will start the following day, Tuesday 22nd May, at 10am. Over four days, until Friday 25th May, 96 women will contest the twelve places available in the women’s singles main draw. Eight of these hopefuls are French: Audrey Albie, Tessah Andrianjafitrimo, Manon Arcangioli, Clara Burel, Sara Cakarevic, Diane Parry, Harmony Tan and Margot Yerolymos, who have been given a wildcard. The draw for the women’s qualifying rounds will take place on Monday 21st May at 4pm.

“QRG” is an event in its own right at the Parisian Grand Slam, and plenty of surprises are in store for spectators. Suzanne-Lenglen court will be open to QRG spectators every day, to give them the unique opportunity to watch the star players’ final practice sessions before they begin their Roland-Garros campaign. Spectators will also have the privilege of discovering the three new courts – 7, 9 and 18 – which will be “inaugurated” during the qualifying rounds.

Organizatorzy przyznali dzikie karty do Rolanda Garrosa 2018

Organizatorzy wielkoszlemowego Rolanda Garrosa 2018 ogłosili nazwiska tenisistek i tenisistów, którzy otrzymali dzikie karty do turnieju singla oraz eliminacji

Dzikie karty do głównej drabinki singla mężczyzn i kobiet otrzymało po sześciu przedstawicieli gospodarzy. Po jednej przepustce zarezerwowano dla reprezentantów Australii i USA. To efekt zawartych kilka lat temu porozumień, według których tenisiści z tych krajów uzyskują prawo do gry w turnieju głównym Australian Open, Rolanda Garrosa i US Open.
Amerykanie zdecydowali, że o dzikie karty panie i panowie muszą zapracować na korcie. W tym roku klasyfikację generalną cyklu USTA Roland Garros Wild Card Challenge wygrali Taylor Townsend i Noah Rubin. Z kolei Australijczycy zdecydowali się przyznać miejsce w głównej drabince paryskiej imprezy wielkoszlemowej zdolnemu Aleksowi de Minaurowi. W przypadku kobiet rozgrywany jest obecnie we francuskiej stolicy specjalny turniej play-off, którego zwyciężczyni zostanie obdarowana dziką kartą.
Pierwsze mecze głównej drabinki Rolanda Garrosa 2018 odbędą się już w niedzielę, 27 maja. Z kolei w poniedziałek, 21 maja rozpoczną się trzystopniowe eliminacje.
