Wawrinka Qualifies For Barclays ATP World Tour Finals

Stan Wawrinka has qualified for the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals for the third year in a row after beating Kevin Anderson 6-4, 6-4, 6-0 on Wednesday in New York to reach the US Open semi-finals.
The Swiss is the fourth player to book his place in the elite eight-man field. He will join World No. 1 Novak Djokovic, Andy Murray and Roger Federer at the prestigious season finale, to be held at The O2 in London from 15-22 November.
Kei Nishikori, Tomas Berdych, two-time former finalist Rafael Nadal and 2007 runner-up David Ferrer all feature in the Top 8 of the Emirates ATP Race To London standings, with four singles spots left up for grabs.
Wawrinka reached the semi-finals on his first two appearances at The O2 in 2013 (l. to Djokovic) and 2014 (l. to Federer).
Wawrinka opened his 2015 campaign with victory at the Aircel Chennai Open (d. Bedene) and reached the semi-finals on his title defence at the Australian Open (l. to Djokovic). After capturing the Rotterdam title in February (d. Berdych), Wawrinka would go on to claim his second major title at Roland Garros in May, denying Djokovic the career Grand Slam with victory in the final in Paris. One month later, he reached the Wimbledon quarter-finals (l. to Gasquet).

Wimbledon champions Jean-Julien Rojer and Horia Tecau are the second team to qualify for the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals, joining Bob and Mike Bryan in the elite player field at The O2.
Rojer and Tecau will make their second successive appearance at the season finale, to be held from 15-22 November. Six spots remain in the eight-team field, with Roland Garros champions Ivan Dodig and Marcelo Melo next in line to qualify at third in the Emirates ATP Doubles Race To London.
Rojer and Tecau made a strong start to the 2015 season in Australia, finishing runners-up in Sydney (l. to Bopanna/Nestor) and reaching the semi-finals of the Australian Open (l. to Bolelli/Fognini).
The Dutch/Romanian duo captured their first title of the season in Rotterdam (d. Murray/Peers) before later finishing runners-up in Nice (l. to Pavic/Venus) and reaching the Roland Garros semi-finals (l. to Dodig/Melo).
The duo’s crowning moment of the season came at SW19 as they lifted their first Grand Slam trophy at The Championships, Wimbledon, beating Jamie Murray and John Peers in the final. They would later reach the quarter-finals at the US Open (l. to Herbert/Mahut).

Bryans Qualify For Final Showdown

American twins qualify for a 14th consecutive year
Bob Bryan and Mike Bryan will be bidding to crown their 2015 season by winning the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals for a fifth time, adding to titles in 2003-04, 2009 and 2014. The American twins are the first doubles team to book their spot at the season finale, to be held at The O2 in London, from 15-22 November.
The Bryans clinched their spot as result of capturing the Rogers Cup title in Montreal, which represents their 35th ATP World Tour Masters 1000 trophy and 109th crown overall.
They have qualified for the eight-team season finale for the 14th consecutive year (2001, 2003-15). No doubles event was held in 2002. The Bryans (6,105) lead No-2 placed Jean-Julien Rojer and Horia Tecau (5,230) by 875 points in the Emirates ATP Doubles Race To London. View Latest Standings
So far in 2015, the Bryans have lifted six team titles - including three ATP World Tour Masters 1000 titles - in seven finals. Last year, they clinched the year-end No. 1 Emirates ATP Doubles Team Ranking for a record 10th time and for a fifth consecutive season.

Ferrer States Race Case; Contenders In Action In Beijing & Tokyo

Players continue to fight for position with five weeks remaining in the Emirates ATP Race To London
If David Ferrer is to punch his ticket to the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals, it will come as an immense source of pride for the Spaniard.
In just his second tournament back, following a three-month hiatus with a nagging elbow injury, Ferrer claimed his 25th ATP World Tour title at the Malaysian Open, Kuala Lumpur. He closed the gap on countryman Rafael Nadal for the seventh position in the Emirates ATP Race To London, with the top eight players booking their spots at The O2.
The 33 year old has secured his place in the season finale in each of the past five years, also reaching the title match on debut in 2007, but this is perhaps his most impressive qualifying campaign yet.
“It’s a goal for me to be there, because I’ve had a very consistent year,” Ferrer told ATPWorldTour.com. “My goal at the start of the season was to be in London and I’m in a good position in the Race. I will try to do my best to be there.
“It has not been easy because I started so well and I had to stop for three months after Roland Garros. I missed many important tournaments, but I’m feeling better and after the US Open and Kuala Lumpur I know can play well again.”
Despite his mid-season injury woes, Ferrer has compiled another strong year on the ATP World Tour, highlighted by a 4-0 mark in finals. He opened 2015 with a 19-1 overall record, claiming titles at the 500 level events in Rio de Janeiro and Acapulco, in addition to his maiden Doha crown. A consistent force at Masters 1000 events, he has reached the quarter-finals at four of five entered as well.

Four of the eight spots have already been booked at the Final Showdown, with Emirates ATP Race To London leaders Novak Djokovic, Andy Murray, Roger Federer and Stan Wawrinka having qualified for the ATP World Tour’s signature event, to be held 15-22 November on the banks of the River Thames. With valuable points at stake in Beijing and Tokyo, Race rivals will be jockeying for position.
Tomas Berdych, who is eyeing his first title of the year on Monday in a rain-delayed Shenzhen final, is next in the qualification pecking order with 4,000 points. The Czech remains on the precipice of punching his ticket and joins Djokovic as the top two seeds this week in Beijing. A semi-finalist at the season finale in 2011, he has qualified in each of the past five years.
Kei Nishikori, who reached the semi-finals on debut in London last year, is hoping to keep the pressure on Berdych for the fifth position. The Japanese enters his home tournament of Tokyo as the second seed, boasting title runs in 2012 and 2014. Wawrinka is the top seed at the ATP World Tour 500 event.
"It's a really big goal for me to be playing in London again," said Nishikori, who opens his Tokyo title defence with a blockbuster clash against 18-year-old Borna Coric. "If I can play well in these two Asian tournaments (Tokyo and Shanghai), I will have a chance to go to London. I hope I can do well there."
Seeded third and fourth in Beijing are top Spaniards Nadal and Ferrer, respectively. Both are hot on Nishikori’s heels with a mere 515 points separating the trio in the Emirates ATP Race To London. A potential semi-final clash against Berdych awaits Nadal, while Ferrer could face Djokovic in the semis.
Richard Gasquet has the opportunity to continue his strong form and gain ground on the field following a pair of quarter-final finishes at the ATP World Tour Masters 1000 event in Cincinnati (l. to Murray) and at the US Open (l. to Federer). The Frenchman sits in the ninth spot among London contenders with 2,355 points and is seeded fourth in Tokyo. He opens against Roberto Bautista Agut, with Nishikori in his half of the draw. A semi-final clash with significant implications could be in the cards.
Tokyo fifth seed Kevin Anderson, Beijing sixth seed John Isner and Beijing fifth seed Milos Raonic round out the Top 12 contenders. Raonic, who is the last player to eclipse the 2,000-point threshold this year, hoisted the trophy in St. Petersburg two weeks ago.

They say absence makes the heart grow fonder. One year removed from a 2014 campaign cut short by an appendectomy, Rafael Nadal is eager to confirm his place at the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals for the eighth time.
The Spaniard, a two-time finalist at The O2, surged to sixth in the Emirates ATP Race To London following a final finish at the China Open. Despite falling short of the title to Novak Djokovic, Nadal added 300 points to his growing haul, which saw him pass Kei Nishikori and further distance himself from the pack of contenders.
“The [Barclays ATP] World Tour Finals is a goal and it will be good news if I finally qualify,” said Nadal. “I'm going to fight for it, competing with the right mentality again, the right confidence and the right level of tennis.”
Nadal says that while his 2015 season “has not been the ideal year,” based on the standards he has set throughout his storied career, he is fighting harder than ever to return to top form and using his recent experiences as a source of motivation going forward. Runner-up in 2010 (l. to Federer) and 2013 (l. to Djokovic) in London, he is looking to build off five final runs this year, including a trio of titles in Buenos Aires, Stuttgart and at the ATP World Tour 500 event in Hamburg.
“I am No. 6 in the Race,” a humble Nadal told reporters in Beijing. “That's my number today. I don't know if you consider that one of the best players of the world or not. That's the number. In tennis, it is different than in other sports, that you don't have a ranking. Here you have a ranking.”
With just 130 Emirates ATP Race To London points separating Nadal (3,970) and No. 5 Tomas Berdych (4,100), the pair will be joined by a cast of contenders at this week’s Shanghai Rolex Masters – the penultimate ATP World Tour Masters 1000 event of the year. Despite a first-round exit in Beijing, the Czech remains next in line to have his ticket punched for the season finale, to be held 15-22 November at the iconic O2 arena on the banks of the River Thames. Berdych is just one week removed from claiming his first title of the season at the Shenzhen Open. With a potential quarter-final clash against third seed Andy Murray in the cards in Shanghai, he is seeking to book his spot for a sixth successive year.
“I learned quite a lot from the previous years,” Berdych said in Beijing. “It's always the same, so there is no need to be worrying about that. I’m just going week by week, playing the tournaments and the tennis. In the end, we will see if I'm going to make it or not.”

Ferrer did well to bolster his case, extending his lead over No. 9 Richard Gasquet to more than 1,000 points. The 33 year old is firing on all cylinders after enduring a three-month mid-season absence due to an elbow injury.
Gasquet has the opportunity to rediscover his form and gain ground on the field following a first-round upset loss to Roberto Bautista Agut in Tokyo. The Frenchman saw his cushion ahead of John Isner trimmed to 130 Emirates ATP Race To London points after the American battled into the Beijing quarter-finals. Other contenders Kevin Anderson and Milos Raonic saw their distant hopes take a significant blow after suffering first-round dismissals in Tokyo and Beijing, respectively. A potential Shanghai third round match-up laden with London implications could feature Raonic against Nadal.

Doubles Teams Qualify For Barclays ATP World Tour Finals

Just two spots remain in the eight-team doubles field at the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals, as the duos of Ivan Dodig/Marcelo Melo, Pierre-Hughes Herbert/Nicolas Mahut, Simone Bolelli/Fabio Fognini and Jamie Murray/John Peers have secured their places in the prestigious season finale, to be held at The O2 in London Nov. 15-22. The world’s biggest indoor tennis tournament will feature the world’s best eight singles players and doubles teams.
Two teams had already qualified: World No. 1 Bob and Mike Bryan and Wimbledon champions Jean-Julien Rojer and Horia Tecau.
Melo is coming off back-to-back titles in Tokyo and Shanghai with South African Raven Klaasen. The Brazilian is now 17-18 in career finals (4-1 this season). Partnering with Dodig, he won titles in Acapulco and at Roland Garros, while reaching the final in Washington. Melo is 2-2 in ATP World Tour Masters 1000 finals.
Dodig, meanwhile, is trying to improve his singles ranking (from No. 127) and has played four Challengers since last month. He lost in the semi-finals in a third set tie-break in Rennes, France (l. to Malek Jaziri) on Saturday.
In September, the all-French tandem of Herbert/Mahut clinched their first Grand Slam doubles title at the US Open (d. Murray/Peers). Herbert was 0-4 at the majors prior to partnering Mahut at the 2015 Australian Open, where they reached the final.
Bolelli and Fognini appeared in their fourth final of the season (1-3) at the Shanghai Rolex Masters, where they were runners-up to Melo/Klaasen, and also posted runner-up finishes at ATP World Tour Masters 1000 events in Indian Wells (l. to Vasek Pospisil/Jack Sock) and Monte-Carlo (l. to Bryan/Bryan) earlier this season. They opened the the year by capturing the Australian Open crown (d. Herbert/Mahut), becoming first Italian duo to win a Grand Slam doubles title since Nicola Pietrangeli and Orlando Sirola lifted the Roland Garros trophy in 1959. They reached semi-finals at Roland Garros (l. to Bryans).
Along with Herbert/Mahut, Murray/Peers — runners-up at both Wimbledon and the US Open — is one of only two teams this season to reach two major doubles finals. They have won 10 of their last 12 Grand Slam matches, and captured titles on the hard courts of Brisbane and clay of Hamburg in 2015.

Nadal and Berdych will compete alongside Novak Djokovic, Andy Murray, Roger Federer and Stan Wawrinka at the prestigious season finale. The world’s biggest indoor tennis tournament, featuring the world’s best eight singles players and doubles teams, will be played 15-22 November at The O2 in London.
Nadal qualified for the season finale for the 11th consecutive season after reaching the semi-finals of the Shanghai Rolex Masters, one week on from a runner-up showing at the China Open in Beijing (l. to Djokovic). His performances in China over the past two weeks saw him leapfrog Kei Nishikori and Berdych to rise to fifth in the Emirates ATP Race To London.

The Spaniard reached the final in London in 2013 and 2010. He missed last year’s tournament after undergoing a late-season appendectomy. (Nadal was also forced to miss the season finale through injury in 2005, 2008 and 2012).

The eight-player singles field for the 2015 Barclays ATP World Tour Finals is set. As a result of Richard Gasquet’s semi-final loss at the Swiss Indoors Basel on Saturday, both David Ferrer and Kei Nishikori are assured of their places at the prestigious season finale, to be held at The O2 in London from 15-22 November.

Ferrer and Nishikori join three-time defending champion and 2008 titlist Novak Djokovic, Andy Murray, six-time former winner Roger Federer, Stan Wawrinka, Tomas Berdych and Rafael Nadal.

Nishikori made history last year as the first Asian player to qualify for the season finale in singles. On his debut, the Japanese star beat Murray and Ferrer to reach the semi-finals, where he fell to Djokovic. The 25 year old pushed on this season to break into the Top 4 of the Emirates ATP Rankings in March and won three more ATP World Tour titles in Memphis (d. Anderson), Barcelona (d. Andujar) and Washington (d. Isner), while also finishing runner-up in Acapulco (l. to Ferrer).

“I am very excited to go back to London,” said Nishikori. “Being part of the best eight players in the world is a big honour and something I work very hard for every day. This tournament is one of the flagship tournaments of the year for us and I look forward to coming back.”

Ferrer will make his seventh appearance at the season finale. The 33-year-old Spaniard reached the final on his debut in 2007 in Shanghai (l. to Federer) and qualified four years in a row from 2010-’13 before serving as an alternate last year, stepping in to play the final round robin match for Milos Raonic.

"It’s an honour to be back in London and be amongst the best players in the world once again," said Ferrer. "It’s been a great season for me and I really look forward to the tournament."

Ferrer has put together one of his best seasons in 2015, capturing five ATP World Tour titles – his biggest haul since seven trophies in 2012 - in Doha (d. Berdych), Rio de Janeiro (d. Fognini), Acapulco (d. Nishikori), Kuala Lumpur (d. Lopez) and last week in Vienna (d. Johnson).

Just one place remains up for grabs in the doubles field, with Marcin Matkowski and Nenad Zimonjic clinching the seventh berth on Monday.
