Due to a number of unforeseen scheduling conflicts, the ATP has announced that the Official Launch of the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals will no longer take place in the form of a Celebrity Charity Fundraiser scheduled for Friday 7 November at The O2.

In place of the Celebrity Charity Fundraiser, the ATP will hold an official launch event on board the Silver Sturgeon boat on the River Thames, where the Official Player Welcome Ceremonies will take place ahead of the season-ending tournament.

All ticket holders who purchased tickets to the Celebrity Charity Fundraiser through the tournament's official ticketing partners will be contacted for a full refund.

Arguably the hottest player on the ATP World Tour, Kei Nishikori is putting the rest of the Emirates ATP Race to London contenders on notice.

On Sunday, Nishikori clinched his second straight title during the Asian swing, overcoming Milos Raonic in three sets on home soil in Tokyo. He improved to 15-1 since August, which also included a final result at the US Open and run to the title in Kuala Lumpur.

The Japanese moved up to No. 5 in the Race standings, leapfrogging US Open final opponent Marin Cilic, and revealed his ambitions to qualify for a first Barclays ATP World Tour Finals. “I hope to get to London,” said Nishikori. “I am getting close, but there are two more [ATP World Tour] Masters 1000s and 500s left. These next few weeks will be really important for me.”

Three of the eight spots have already been booked, with Race leaders Novak Djokovic, Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal having qualified for the year-end championships, to be held 9-16 November at The O2 in London. With valuable points at stake at this week’s Shanghai Rolex Masters, the penultimate ATP World Tour Masters 1000 event of the year, Race rivals will be jockeying for position.

Stan Wawrinka, the Australian Open (d. Nadal) and Monte-Carlo Rolex Masters (d. Federer) champion, is next in the qualification pecking order with 4,795 points. The Swiss, whose bid was put on hold after being stunned by wild card Tatsuma Ito in his Tokyo opener, remains on the precipice of punching his ticket. He reached the semis at the season finale on debut last year.

Tomas Berdych further entrenched himself among the elite eight, rising to the seventh position after battling to the final at the China Open. The Czech, champion in Rotterdam and runner-up in Oerias and Dubai this year, is seeded sixth in Shanghai and opens against either Richard Gasquet or Jeremy Chardy. Raonic also moved up one spot to eighth, earning 300 points with his final run in Tokyo, while Andy Murray further bolstered his case for a sixth Final Showdown berth with a semi-final finish in Beijing (l. to Djokovic).

“If I play well, I'll give myself a chance at getting to the O2,” said Murray, who earned his first trophy in 15 months at the Shenzhen Open two Sundays ago. The Scot is a mere 175 points behind Raonic for the eighth and final berth.

David Ferrer has the opportunity to rediscover his form and gain ground on the field following a second-round upset loss to countryman Marcel Granollers in Tokyo. Ferrer dropped three positions to No. 10 in the Emirates ATP Race to London and will look to halt a three-match losing skid against Martin Klizan or Sam Groth in Shanghai.

A three-time ATP World Tour titlist in 2014, Grigor Dimitrov is also looking to keep pace after being ousted by eventual champion Djokovic in the Beijing quarter-finals. The Bulgarian, who is the last player to reach the 3,000-point threshold this year, remains in the 11th spot.

The Barclays ATP World Tour Finals has welcomed more than 1.25 million fans to The O2 arena over the past five years, establishing itself as the biggest indoor tennis tournament in the world since moving to London in 2009. For the past four years, David Ferrer has booked his ticket to London for the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals. The Spaniard is doing his best to ensure a spot in the season finale once again, making his first trip in 10 years to the Erste Bank Open next week.

The 32 year old, who finished runner-up in the Final Showdown in 2007 when the event was held in Shanghai, will be the top seed in Vienna. With 594 match wins, he is on the precipice of a significant milestone and is knocking on the door of the eighth and final berth in the Emirates ATP Race To London with 3,715 points, a mere 35 behind Milos Raonic.

“Of course it is my goal,” said Ferrer about qualifying, following his third round victory over fellow contender Andy Murray at the Shanghai Rolex Masters. “I am fighting for the [Barclays ATP World Tour Finals] in London. It's important for me. We don't have too many tournaments. We have only three tournaments more to be in London.”

A trio of ATP World Tour 250 level tournaments are being held in Moscow, Stockholm and Vienna this week, with multiple Race contenders competing at each event. Ferrer and Murray showed how keen they are to return to The O2 on 9-16 November, with both taking wild cards in the Austrian capital.

Ferrer would need to advance to the final to add to his total, while a quarter-final finish or better would see Murray add to his haul. The Scot, bidding for his sixth appearance in seven years, is sitting at 10th with 3,655 points. He claimed his first title of the year at the Shenzhen Open two weeks ago.

“You need to just concentrate on trying to win your matches,” Murray said. “That's the best thing that you can do for your chances to qualify. If you start hoping that other guys are going to lose, spending time worrying about everyone else's results, then it takes energy away from your own performances.

“You really just need to concentrate on yourself. I haven't been in this position for a while, so in some ways it's kind of new. But I'm enjoying it so far. Just giving me a little bit of extra focus and direction for the last few tournaments.”

The Rankings vs. The Race To London

Raonic, who retired from his Shanghai opener due to illness, is clinging to the eighth spot, with less than 100 points separating him from Ferrer and Murray. Everything can change after this week, with the Canadian entering Moscow’s Kremlin Cup as the top seed, and six members of the Top 20 in the Emirates ATP Rankings in field.

Also competing in the 25th edition of the tournament is US Open champion Marin Cilic, who is sixth in the Emirates ATP Race to London. With fourth Stan Wawrinka and fifth Kei Nishikori taking the week off, Cilic has an opportunity to maintain the pressure, entering the home stretch of the regular season.

At the IF Stockholm Open, 2012 champion Tomas Berdych returns to the Swedish metropolis, with all eyes on the Czech in his bid to reach a fifth straight Barclays ATP World Tour Finals. He is just 45 points behind Cilic in the Race standings. He is coming off a run to the final at the China Open and quarter-final result at the Shanghai Rolex Masters.

Berdych will be joined by second seed and defending champion Grigor Dimitrov. With 3,450 points, the Bulgarian young gun needs a strong showing in Stockholm to keep pace with the rest of his Race rivals. Currently more than 200 points behind Murray in the 11th position, the four-time ATP World Tour titlist is one of two players (Raonic) born in the 1990s battling for a berth in the season finale. Berdych would need to advance to the final to add to his total, while a semi-final finish or better would see Dimitrov add to his haul.

Stan Wawrinka has qualified for the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals for the second year in a row. Following the release of the draws for next week’s events in Stockholm, Vienna and Moscow, the Swiss is now assured of his place among the elite eight at the season finale. Wawrinka is the fourth player to qualify and will join Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer in the elite eight-man field at the prestigious event, to be held at The O2 in London from 9-16 November.

Having reached the semi-finals on his debut in London last year, Wawrinka built on the experience to post a career-best campaign in 2014. The Swiss won his first Grand Slam championship at the Australian Open in January, beating Djokovic in five sets in the quarter-finals and Nadal in the final. Three months later, he triumphed over Federer in the final of the Monte-Carlo Rolex Masters to earn his first ATP World Tour Masters 1000 crown. He also won the Aircel Chennai Open in India in the first week of the 2014 ATP World Tour season.

"I'm extremely happy to be back in London," said Wawrinka. "It was my dream and goal to qualify again this year after the great experience in 2013. It's only my second time at the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals and being part of this great event remains a childhood dream for me. The atmosphere in London is one of a kind and it means a lot to me to be there together with the very best players of the world."

Just three weeks remain in the regular ATP World Tour season, with valuable points to be earned at three ATP World Tour 250s in Moscow, Stockholm and Vienna next week, and then at the 500s in Basel and Valencia before the final event of the regular season, the ATP World Tour Masters 1000 in Paris. Kei Nishikori, Marin Cilic, Tomas Berdych, Milos Raonic, David Ferrer, Andy Murray and Grigor Dimitrov are some of the players in the hunt for the last four spots.

As the only not-yet-qualified Grand Slam champion, US Open winner Cilic will automatically earn the fifth spot next week, unless Berdych wins the Stockholm title or Raonic lifts the trophy in Moscow. The Croat is competing alongside Raonic in Moscow. Nishikori is not in action next week, but Ferrer and Murray are both looking to add valuable points as wild cards and the top two seeds in Vienna, while Dimitrov is the defending champion in Stockholm.

The doubles field confirmed two more teams, leaving four places remaining. Last year’s semi-finalists Alexander Peya and Bruno Soares qualified for the second season in a row, while Roland Garros champions Julien Benneteau and Edouard Roger-Vasselin will make their debut. They will join Bob and Mike Bryan and Daniel Nestor and Nenad Zimonjic at The O2.

US Open champion Marin Cilic has claimed the fifth spot at the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals. The Croat will make his debut at the year-end event as he joins Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer and Stan Wawrinka in the elite eight-man field at the prestigious tournament, to be held at The O2 in London from 9-16 November.

The 26-year-old Cilic will be the first Croatian to play at the season finale since Ivan Ljubicic qualified for the 2006 Tennis Masters Cup in Shanghai. The right-hander, who is through to the semi-finals in Moscow, has compiled a career-best campaign in 2014. Coached by 2001 Wimbledon champion Goran Ivanisevic (who qualified for the year-end event five times in his career), Cilic won his maiden Grand Slam championship at the US Open, toppling Federer in the semi-finals before beating Kei Nishikori in the final. He also lifted the trophies at ATP World Tour events in Zagreb and Delray Beach and finished runner-up in Rotterdam.

"This was one of my childhood dreams," said Cilic. "It happened this year and I'm extremely happy about this success. It's another achievement in my career. The Barclays ATP World Tour Finals is for sure one of the most interesting tournaments of the year. It is watched all over the world and brings a big attendance to all the matches. It will be a big honour for me to participate there."

Following the release of the Valencia Open 500 draw, Australian Open champion Stan Wawrinka, who has already qualified for London, cannot fall below 7th in the Emirates ATP Race London. Consequently, Cilic is now guaranteed to qualify one of two ways: First, he may finish in the Top 7 of the Race. Or, he will be the highest-ranked 2014 Grand Slam champion to finish between 8th and 20th in the Race, and therefore would claim the eighth and final spot.

Just over two weeks remain in the regular ATP World Tour season, with valuable points to be earned at next week’s ATP World Tour 500s in Basel and Valencia before the final event of the regular season, the ATP World Tour Masters 1000 in Paris.

Andy Murray (9th in the Race) and David Ferrer (10th) are both looking to make up ground in the Emirates ATP Race To London as they compete at the ATP World Tour 250 in Vienna this week, while Grigor Dimitrov (11th) is the defending champion at the 250 in Stockholm, where Tomas Berdych (7th) is the top seed.

With just two weeks remaining in the Emirates ATP Race To London, the train to The O2 for the season finale is kicking into high gear. Next stop? The Swiss Indoors Basel and Valencia Open 500.

Tomas Berdych is powering full speed ahead.

“We are still all in the same train and moving forward to London,” said the Czech, who is looking to qualify for a fifth straight year. “Some of us will stay just as close. I’m trying to play well and that’s the best feeling.”

Berdych, who added a net total 160 points to his Race haul by claiming the If Stockholm Open title on Sunday, held his ground in seventh position. The 29 year old was a semi-finalist at the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals in 2011 and, as the second seed this week in Valencia, is eager to continue fighting to secure his spot in the elite eight field.


The battle is on and we’re going to fight for it to the end of the year. I just need to be ready and prepared and go for it again.”

With just three berths remaining and 500 Emirates ATP Rankings points up for grabs in both Basel and Valencia, a dramatic shift in the Race standings is a real possibility.

Andy Murray, who topped fellow contender David Ferrer in Vienna for his second title in four weeks on Sunday, surged past the Spaniard and Milos Raonic for the eighth and final position. Murray added a net total of 230 points and is squarely on Berdych’s heels, with a possible encounter in the Valencia final looming large. Watch Murray Interview

“The next few weeks are extremely important,” said the Scot. “Everyone is playing next week. I just need to win as many matches as possible to keep hold of the eighth spot [in the Emirates ATP Race To London] or go higher.”

The Rankings vs. The Race To London

Kei Nishikori remains next in line in the qualification pecking order with 4,265 points and the Japanese has opted for a week of rest following consecutive title runs in Kuala Lumpur and Tokyo.

Currently sitting on the outside looking in are a pair of young guns, Raonic and Grigor Dimitrov, as well as the 32-year-old Ferrer. Dimitrov and Ferrer both finished runner-up last week, in Stockholm and Vienna respectively, and will look to keep pace with the rest of the pack. The Spaniard, who is 110 points behind Murray in ninth position, is seeking to extend a four-year streak of qualifying for the Final Showdown.

"I have a chance,” the Javea native said. “There are two more weeks that are very important for me to be in London. I prefer that I have a week (at home) in Valencia to get (there)."

In 11th place, Dimitrov, a three-time ATP World Tour titlist this year, is looking to punch his ticket to London for the first time. “I know after my loss today, my chances are getting slim, but you never know. One (ATP World Tour) Masters 1000 can change everything for you. Five (have qualified) so far and there are three more to go.”

Raonic, meanwhile, is hoping to rebound from consecutive first round exits, after retiring against Juan Monaco at the Shanghai Rolex Masters and falling to Ricardas Berankis in Moscow. A mere 25 points behind Ferrer, he is seeded fourth in Basel and finds himself in the same half of the draw as second-seed Nadal.
