Pierwszy set zaskakujący, ale koniec końców wygrał ten, który był dość wyraźnym faworytem. Pierwszy tytuł od 2,5 roku. Wielkie brawa!

Brawa należą się zarówno Tomasowi jak i Marinowi . Pierwsze dwa sety (zwłaszcza drugi) stały na dość wysokim poziomie, obaj dali z siebie bardzo wiele i myślę, że mogą być zadowoleni po zakończeniu tego turnieju. Berdych tym zwycięstwem bardzo przybliżył się do WTF w Londynie, a Cilic znów wrócił do dobrej formy (chociaż na Us Open też grał dobry tenis).

Szkot powiedział podczas singlowej dekoracji, że musi uciekać, by przygotować się do debla, a organizatorom podziękuje później.

Murray zagrał znakomicie, powiedziałbym nawet, że wbrew sobie (mam tu na myśli częstotliwość jego ataków). Szkot wygrywa duży turniej (oczywiście nie wielkoszlemowy) w świetnym stylu - ale który to już raz.

Nadal od połowy drugiego seta bardzo łatwo oddawał pole po kilku uderzeniach, widać było jakąś taką jego ociężałość ruchową i psychiczne wyjałowienie, praktycznie dostarczał tylko piłki do zabicia Andy'emu. Szczerze mówiąc nie pamiętam, kiedy ostatnio tak momentalnie zgasł na korcie. Zadziwiająca sprawa.

Jestem zaskoczony przebiegiem tokijskiego finału, w szczególności wynikiem dwóch ostatnich setów.
Oczywiście powtórzę tylko słowa innych userów, ale decyzja o pojawieniu się w Azji po tak intensywnym sezonie wydaje się absolutnie niepoważna, o ile oczywiście Rafa chce przybyć w jako takiej formie do Australii.

Mnie tam osobiście to nie przeszkadza, Nadal może sobie grać po 100 meczów w sezonie do końca kariery, ale z punktu widzenia ludzi zainteresowanych jego losem, np. Wujka Phony'ego, rozgrywanie takiej liczby pojedynków w sezonie granym przede wszystkim na hardzie, to równia pochyła do kolejnej ciężkiej kontuzji, być może takiej, która wykluczy Hiszpana z gry na dobre.

Co się w tym roku dzieje z Nadalem? Kolejny przegrany finał i to nie z Djokoviciem. Hiszpan zatracił umiejętność wygrywania spotkań finałowych. Bilans tegorocznych finałów poza kortami ziemnymi wynosi 0-5.

Pomimo tej porażki w Nadalu upatruje faworyta turnieju szanghajskiego. Murray może być wyczerpany trzecim tygodniem grania. Poza tym w ewentualnym finale Szkot wcale nie musi grać tak dobrze jak dziś. Hiszpan miał w dzisiejszym meczu przebłyski niezłej formy, co na resztę czołówki powinno wystarczyć.

Bethel China Foundation And China Open Presented ATP Aces For Charity Grant

The Bethel China Foundation and China Open were presented with a cheque as part of the inaugural ATP ACES For Charity programme in Beijing Saturday prior to the semi-final match between Tomas Berdych and Jo-Wilfried Tsonga.

Brad Drewett, the ATP Executive Officer for ATP International, presented the grant to Bethel China Foundation founder Guillaume Gauvain and eleven visually impaired orphans, as well as China Open Tournament directors Charles Hsiung and Alfred Zhang. "The ATP Aces for Charity Program is about giving donations to special charities around the world," said Drewett. "It was an honour to be able to present a donation during the China Open to a wonderful group of young, underprivileged children from the Bethel China Foundation. It was also very touching for everyone to hear them sing a beautiful song for the centre court audience."

The Bethel China Foundation provides education and care programs for blind orphans in the Beijing area. So far, they have secured foster homes and schooling for over 70 children in Beijing and run a successful training program for orphanages all over China to assist with the needs of visually impaired youth. Two of the organisation's key initiatives include “The Love Is Blind Project”, supporting 60 blind orphans on its 17-acre project site just south of Beijing, and “Project 555”, offering training to other orphanages throughout China to better care for this community.

Previously this week, three of the 12 grants awarded for 2011 from the ATP ACES For Charity programme were presented at the Rakuten Japan Open Tennis Championships in Tokyo. The recipients were the Rafa Nadal Foundation, the David Nalbandian Foundation, and the East Japan Earthquake Charity Fund.

Earlier this year, the ATP – governing organisation of the men’s professional tennis circuit - established a new grant program, The ATP ACES For Charity program, to recognise ATP players and tournaments for their outstanding contributions to charitable causes around the world. It is a global initiative aimed at giving back to communities where ATP World Tour events are played, as well as recognising and supporting tournament and player charitable initiatives.

The ATP has announced the 12 inaugural recipients of its ATP ACES For Charity grant programme. Grants of 10,000 US Dollar/Euros each will be awarded by the ATP on an annual basis to charitable causes nominated by ATP World Tour players and tournaments.

ATP's Drewitt doesn't see 5th Slam for China

Brad Drewitt, the CEO of the ATP Tour's International Group, tells the Age that he doesn’t see the China Open becoming the fifth Grand Slam. ''The Grand Slams have many things, but they have something you can't replace, and that's a great history and tradition over 50, 100 years,'' said Drewitt. ''So the four Grand Slams are the four Grand Slams, but I believe that these type of tournaments can become extremely significant events on the world stage, just by the very fact they've got these absolutely world-class facilities, together with the biggest growing market in the world - one billion-plus people that companies are trying to sell to, which is a great platform for sponsorships, and they've got great television support.''

The Chinese press spent part of the week asking players whether or not they thought the combined tournament in Beijing should have that type of lofty designation. The WTA side of the event is a Premier Mandatory tournament, but the men’s is only a non-mandatory ATP 500. China has invested a lot of money in the facilities. '

"Well, the main difference is that it's a grand slam and this is not," Ivan Ljubicic said. "Facility-wise, this is big. There are a lot of courts, and the facilities are here to be a bigger tournament. [But] the fact is that we have a very limited number of big tournaments that it's very difficult to be one of. I'm sure that the China Open in Beijing would love to have a bigger tournament like a Masters 1000 or hopefully bigger than that. But it's really schedule-wise difficult to become part of it once you're not.''

Drewitt also told the Times of India that there is room for tournament growth in that country. India currently only has one ATP tournament, the season-opener in Chennai.
 "India was a huge potential market for the sport," he said. "The way I see it, India can have two ATP Tour events.” Drewitt mentioned Bangalore and Mumbai as potential sites.
