Waszyngton: przegrany finał Kubota
Spoiler:
Nestor i Roger-Vasselin natychmiast stratę jednak odrobili.
D. Nestor, E. Roger-Vasselin (Kanada, Francja, 2) - Ł. Kubot, A. Peya (Polska, Austria) 7:6(3), 7:6(4)

W 2012 roku w Rzymie wraz z Janko Tipsareviciem przegrał mecz o tytuł z parą Marcel Granollers / Marc Lopez, natomiast przed dwoma tygodniami w Indian Wells wraz z Melo nie sprostał Ravenowi Klaasenowi i Rajeevowi Ramowi.
Warszawianin i szczecinian w deblu wygrali dwie imprezy złotej serii, obie w Madrycie - w sezonach 2008 i 2012.
Następny turniej rangi ATP Masters 1000, w Monte Carlo, rozpocznie się 16 kwietnia. Oby znów zakończył się wygraną polskiego tenisisty.
Kubot/Melo Notch Second Masters 1000 Crown In Madrid
Spoiler:
Polish-Brazilian pair claim title without dropping a set
Lukasz Kubot and Marcelo Melo dominated the doubles field at the Mutua Madrid Open, clinching their second ATP World Tour Masters 1000 of the year without dropping a set.
Kubot and Melo downed Frenchmen Nicolas Mahut and Edouard Roger-Vasselin 7-5, 6-3 in one hour and 20 minutes on Sunday. The Polish-Brazilian pair turned in an impressive serving performance, claiming 88 per cent of first serve points and saving three of four break points faced.
Also the champions in Miami and runners-up in Indian Wells, Kubot and Melo are off to a flying start in their first full season together. They improve to 17-7 in 2017 and open a 240-point lead over Henri Kontinen and John Peers atop the Emirates ATP Doubles Race To London, passing the Finnish-Aussie duo for No. 1.
"We can't feel better," said Melo. "We played another really good tournament. In four Masters 1000 tournaments we won two and reached another final, so these are pretty big results. I am really happy the way we are playing now and looking forward to the next one.
"Lukasz went to Barcelona alone because my mom had some health problems, but she's perfect now. She is recovering at home and watched our final today. It's Mother's Day in Brazil so this title is for her."
After exchanging breaks midway through the first set, the fourth seeds sealed the opener with another break in the 12th game. They would reel off five straight games, also snatching the early lead in the second set, and did not look back from there. With Melo serving for the match at 5-3, Roger-Vasselin turned aside the first championship point with a rifled return winner, but could not handle Melo's delivery on the second.
Individually, it was Kubot's 16th tour-level doubles crown and fourth with Melo. They had also teamed up to win consecutive titles in Vienna in 2015-16. The Brazilian now owns 24 tour-level titles in total, including seven at the Masters 1000 level. They earn 1,000 Emirates ATP Doubles Rankings points and split €323,200 in prize money.
"We're learning day-by-day how to improve and we're having great results," said Kubot. "We have to be ready for the tough moments and the next big event in Rome. Let's see what will happen in the future."
The French duo of Mahut and Roger-Vasselin, meanwhile, were bidding for their fifth team title and first since 2013, when they won on the grass of Newport. Mahut falls to 17-13 in tour-level doubles finals, while Roger-Vasselin drops to 13-6.

Spoiler:
Łukasz Kubot i Brazylijczyk Marcelo Melo zostali mistrzami gry podwójnej turnieju ATP World Tour 250 na kortach trawiastych w Den Bosch.
W trwającym 65 minut meczu Kubot i Melo zaserwowali cztery asy, zdobyli 35 z 45 punktów przy swoim pierwszym podaniu i obronili trzy break pointy.
Kubot i Melo zdobyli trzeci tytuł w tym roku. Triumfowali w dwóch turniejach rangi ATP World Tour Masters 1000, w Miami i Madrycie.
Pięć lat temu wspólnie z Ivanem Dodigiem odpadli w I rundzie.
Kubot i Melo zdobyli piąty wspólny tytuł. Oprócz trzech tegorocznych triumfów wygrali jeszcze dwa razy turniej w Wiedniu (2015, 2016). Bilans deblowych finałów Polaka to teraz 17-11, a Brazylijczyka 25-20.
Kontinen/Peers advance on Monday
Fourth seeds Lukasz Kubot and Marcelo Melo rallied from the brink of defeat on Monday at Wimbledon, fighting back from two sets down to reach the quarter-finals over 14th seeds Florin Mergea and Aisam-Ul-Haq Qureshi 6-7(3), 4-6, 6-1, 6-4, 6-2.
Kubot/Melo remain unbeaten on grass this year after prevailing at the Ricoh Open (d. Klaasen/Ram) and Gerry Weber Open (d. Zverev/Zverev). They’ve also picked up ATP World Tour Masters 1000 titles this year in Miami (d. Monroe/Sock) and Madrid (d. Mahut/Roger-Vasselin). Next up for them are Marcus Daniell and Marcelo Demoliner or British brothers Ken Skupski and Neal Skupski.

Top seeds Henri Kontinen and John Peers continued their quest for a first Wimbledon crown by defeating qualifiers Hugo Nys and Antonio Sancic 6-3, 3-6, 6-1, 6-4. Awaiting them in the last eight are Roland Garros champions and 10th seeds Ryan Harrison and Michael Venus, who prevailed in a 2-6, 6-3, 6-4, 6-7(7), 6-3 marathon against sixth seeds Ivan Dodig and Marcel Granollers.
Sixteenth seeds Oliver Marach and Mate Pavic ended the dream run of British wild cards Marcus Willis and #NextGenATP player Jay Clarke by prevailing 6-3, 6-4, 7-6(3). Pavic is through to his first Grand Slam quarter-final and Marach advances to his fifth. The win wasn’t without its painful moments, though...
Next up for Marach/Pavic are Marcin Matkowski and Max Mirnyi, who defeated Nicholas Monroe and Artem Sitak 6-3, 3-6, 6-3, 6-4. Mirnyi finished runner-up here in 2003 with Mahesh Bhupathi.
The upset of the day goes to Hans Podlipnik-Castillo and Andrei Vasilevski, who reached their first Grand Slam quarter-final by moving past seventh seeds Raven Klaasen and Rajeev Ram 6-4, 7-6(5), 6-3. Podlipnik-Castillo had won only one Grand Slam match prior to this week, while Vasilevski is making his debut at a major.
They’ll take on Croatians Nikola Mektic and Franko Skugor in the next round after the unseeded pair defeated Sam Groth and Robert Lindstedt 6-7(9), 7-6(4), 7-5, 7-5. Both men are into the first Grand Slam quarter-finals and Skugor is also making his Grand Slam debut.
Kubot/Melo To Face Pavic/Marach For Wimbledon Title
Spoiler:
Melo also will return to No. 1
Thirteen matches down, one to go. Lukasz Kubot and Marcelo Melo stayed perfect on the grass on Thursday, ousting top seeds Henri Kontinen and John Peers 6-3, 6-7(4), 6-2, 4-6, 9-7 in the Wimbledon semi-finals.
Melo/Kubot will now put their grass-court streak to the ultimate test: the Wimbledon doubles final. In Saturday's championship, the fourth seeds will meet 16th seeds Oliver Marach of Austria and Mate Pavic of Croatia, who outlasted Croatians Nikola Mektic and Franko Skugor 4-6, 7-5, 7-6(4), 3-6, 17-15 in four hours and 35 minutes.
It will be a maiden Grand Slam final for both teams, but both Melo and Kubot have won Grand Slam titles with different partners. Melo, playing with Ivan Dodig, won the 2015 Roland Garros doubles title and reached the 2013 Wimbledon doubles title match. Kubot won the 2014 Australian Open doubles crown playing with Robert Lindstedt.

Kubot/Melo, who joined forces full-time at the start of the season, have been nearly unstoppable since forming. On Saturday, they will go for their fifth tour-level title of the year after winning ATP World Tour Masters 1000 crowns in Miami (d. Monroe/Sock) and Madrid (d. Mahut/Roger-Vasselin) and picking up grass-court titles at the Ricoh Open (d. Klaasen/Ram) and the Gerry Weber Open in Halle (d. Zverev/Zverev).
Marach and Pavic will be playing in their first Grand Slam final as a team and as individuals. But they also enjoyed grass-court success before The Championships. Marach/Pavic were finalists at the MercedesCup in Stuttgart (l. to Murray/Soares) and at the inaugural Antalya Open in Turkey (l. to Lindstedt/Qureshi).
Regardless of Saturday's outcome, Melo will have a reason to celebrate. With current doubles No. 1 Kontinen out of Wimbledon, Melo will surpass him and return to No. 1 in the Emirates ATP Doubles Rankings on Monday when the new rankings are released. Melo, currently World No. 3, spent 26 weeks at No. 1 from November 2015 to June 2016.
