Cachantun Cup (Santiago, Chile): Argentina's Facundo Bagnis is on the brink of returning to the Top 100 of the Emirates ATP Rankings after capturing his fifth ATP Challenger Tour title on Sunday. Bagnis, who has reached the quarter-finals in five of his previous seven events entered on the circuit, beat Guilherme Clezar 6-2, 5-7, 6-2 to earn his second Cachantun Cup crown. Also the titlist in 2013 (d. De Bakker), the 25 year old joins countryman Maximo Gonzalez as the lone two-time champions in the tournament's 10-year history.

Bagnis (pictured left, photo credit: Cachantú​n Cup): "It's always complicated against players of Clezar's level. The matches are always tight and you have to play very well in all aspects to compete at the highest level.

"I enjoyed my week in this club and I dedicate the title to my family. I am very happy to have won this tournament again. I have come here every year and I am very comfortable."

Racket Club Open (Buenos Aires, Argentina): Home favourite Facundo Bagnis delivered in Buenos Aires, defeating first-time finalist Arthur De Greef 6-3, 6-2 on Sunday. It has been an impressive start to the season for the Argentine, who was a semi-finalist in Mendoza the week prior. Bagnis improved to 6-6 in ATP Challenger Tour finals, claiming his first title since March 2015 (Santiago, Chile). Rising to No. 110 in the Emirates ATP Rankings, the 25 year old is closing in on a return to the Top 100. He assumed a career-high spot of World No. 90 after reaching the final in Sarasota last April. De Greef, meanwhile, reached his first final in his first week under the tutelage of former World No. 24 Olivier Rochus.

I was dissapointed after losing the semi-final last week in Mendoza, but I could win here in Buenos Aires and at the end of the day it's been a great fortnight. It gives me confidence to face the following weeks, but I know that I need to be more consistent the whole season. I broke into the Top 100 last year and now I know what you need to be there. My goal for this year is to be more consistent, earn a place among the Top 100 and remain in that group as long as I can."

Bagnis improved to 13-1 on the year, upending home hope Guilherme Clezar 6-4, 4-6, 6-2 in Sunday’s final. It marked the fourth straight three-set win of the week for the 25 year old, who notched his seventh ATP Challenger Tour title overall. The tournament was contested indoors for much of the week due to heavy and unusual rain, which forced Bagnis to play three matches (two singles, one doubles) on Saturday. Claro Open (Medellin, Colombia): Second seed Facundo Bagnis of Argentina has now won more ATP Challenger Tour singles titles than anyone in 2016, earning his fourth win on Saturday by defeating Caio Zampieri of Brazil, 6-7(3), 7-5, 6-2. All four titles have come on South American clay. Bagnis prevailed in January in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and Rio De Janeiro, Brazil, then won again in March in Santiago, Chile. With his win in Medellin, he’ll move to a career-high Emirates ATP Ranking on Monday and is projected to land inside the Top 80.

Campeonato Internacional (Campinas, Brazil): It’s back-to-back Challengers for third seed Facundo Bagnis of Argentina after top seed and fellow Argentine Carlos Berlocq was forced to retire with a right adductor strain. Bagnis was leading the final 5-7, 6-2, 3-0. This is his fifth Challenger title of 2016, more than any other player, with all his wins coming on South American clay courts.
Bagnis also prevailed last week in Medellin, Colombia. He is 35-8 in Challengers in 2016, with 30 of those wins coming in South America.

Bagnis Continues Reign As King Of Clay

Argentine wins sixth Challenger of 2016 in Bogota
Most players would be happy with one ATP Challenger Tour title during their season, but Facundo Bagnis has gone above and beyond by lifting his sixth winner’s trophy of 2016 in Bogota, Colombia.
The 26-year-old from Argentina prevailed as the top seed at the $75,000 event by defeating countryman and second seed Horacio Zeballos, 3-6, 6-3, 7-6. All six of his titles this year came on clay in South America. Bagnis has now tied Juan Ignacio Chela (2001) and Younes El Aynaoui (1998) for most Challenger titles won in a single season.
“I’m very happy. It’s impossible to have a better end to the year,” said Bagnis. “Last week, I was in Guayaquil (Ecuador) and feeling very tired from the season. But I think that with an extra effort, I started to feel better during the week. I still can’t believe I won the tournament.”

The Argentine opened his season in January with back-to-back titles in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and Rio De Janeiro, Brazil. Bagnis went on to score another trophy this March in Santiago, Chile, but has truly come alive at the end of the year. He won back-to-back titles again last month in Medellin, Colombia and Campinas, Brazil before his most recent win in Bogota.
Having started the year at No. 140 in the Emirates ATP Rankings, he is projected to move inside the Top 60 on Monday.
“This is the result of a lot of work, a lot of people that made an effort so that I can be a tennis player,” said Bagnis. “We’re always looking towards excellence and always try to keep improving every little detail. I’m starting to enjoy it more. There are very few times that you get to win in a sport like tennis, so you have to enjoy it.”
But now that he’s firmly made his mark in Challengers, Bagnis has his sights set on the biggest stages in men’s professional tennis. He’s already made plans for a rigorous off-season in the hopes of making deep runs in ATP World Tour events.
“I want to keep improving everything physically, mentally and on the court because tennis always demands more of you,” said Bagnis. “Next year is going to be a nice challenge with many ATP [World Tour] tournaments coming. I’m looking forward to it.”
