Też uważam, że u Oresta Lenczyka pewnie by został wyrzucony z treningu, z drugiej strony, jak się go trochę porozciąga, uelastyczni, to wszystkie elementy się poprawią. Oczywiście to nie robota na miesiąc, ani nawet na rok. Z drugiej strony wątpię, żeby zadowoliło go miejsce 12-15, na które obecnie "wygląda". Zobaczymy, nie takie ananasy zostawały przodownikami pracy, bo nie ma wątpliwości, że aby coś osiągnąć, potrzeba tu będzie przełomu.

Scheduling could force Bernard Tomic to miss the Rio Olympics




BERNARD Tomic is unsure whether he will be able to play at the Rio Olympics this year amid a scheduling squeeze. But Tomic’s commitment to representing Australia in 2016 does extend to him saying he wants to play all Davis Cup ties. The top-ranked Australian said he wants to play at the Rio Olympics and he is qualified for Olympic selection because of his Davis Cup service in recent years. This includes two ties in 2015 despite being stood down for one by Tennis Australia for criticism of their policies and executives.

Roger Federer and Maria Sharapova, both 2012 Olympic silver singles medallists, and Australian No.1 Sam Stosur have spoken enthusiastically in Brisbane about representing their country again at the Rio Games. The Olympic tennis event runs between August 6-14, with mandatory men’s Masters Series events in Montreal (starting July 25) and Cincinnati (August 15) either side of it in a busy lead-up to the US Open. Tomic wants to play a shorter schedule than the 28 tournaments and two Davis Cup ties in 2015 which took his ranking to No.18. “I’d like to play it. It’s a huge opportunity that happens only once every four years,’’ Tomic said. “If the opportunity comes up, I will see what the schedule is. There are Masters series tournaments (in August) and if I’m ready I’d like to play for sure. I played at the Olympics in 2012 and lost in my first round. It’s an interesting competition.’’

Entering this week’s Brisbane International, Tomic said he wants to play “much, much less’’ this year. “But sometimes when you are playing well it forces you to play even more,’’ said Tomic, who will play French veteran Nicolas Mahut first-up at Pat Rafter Arena, probably on Monday.

Tomic had a week training with the Davis Cup team in Melbourne in November which he said was “building the team bond’’ under new captain Lleyton Hewitt. “If they select me for Davis Cup, I’m always ready to play,’’ Tomic said. “Its schedule (of as many as four weeks a year) is very rough but it’s Davis Cup and from my heart I really enjoy playing Davis Cup.’’ Tomic said he was “all fine and very happy’’ with Tennis Australia despite last year’s tensions and his non-selection for the second last tie of 2015. “We are on the right path and I can’t wait for 2016 to start, to put that behind me,’’ he said. “That’s one of the reasons why I played well the last few months. We are all happy.’’

Gold Coast tennis player and coach Kaden Hensel and a fitness adviser oversaw Tomic’s practice yesterday at the Queensland Tennis Centre and his previous practices at The Southport School. Tomic said his father and coach John Tomic will attend his match against Mahut if he finds time, but he was busy coaching his 17-year-old daughter Sara at the Gold Coast. “His priority now is Sara who is playing Sydney and Australian Open qualifying,’’ said Tomic, who will be top seed at next week’s Sydney International. Brisbane seventh seed Tomic said he had his anxieties about starting the new season. “But a lot of players have to get used to conditions in Brisbane and maybe being here helps the people from here,’’ he said. “I feel very ready to go.’’

An RACV Royal Pines resort member revealed the country’s controversy-prone No. 1 told recreational players to leave a practice court — and verbally abused intervening staff — at training last week. The furious member also said Tomic, who has earned millions from tennis and endorsements, then baulked at paying the $20 court hire fee. When confronted by the Bulletin last night, Tomic — who had been training for the Brisbane International — immediately apologised. “I’ve been so focused on preparing for all my matches, I know there’s no excuse for my behaviour. I didn’t mean to cause any trouble and I apologise to the club members,” Tomic said. “There seems to have been a bit of a misunderstanding and my practice was interrupted and I got a bit frustrated.”

Q. You recovered from Sydney?
BERNARD TOMIC: Yeah, I'm getting better. Almost feel 100% now. Weather's been very hot here. It's also another step we have to prepare well. It's going to be a tough two days not just for me but all the players that play. It's going to be very hot.

I have to be focused on being recovered for the match on Tuesday.

Q. Monday off, your schedule starts on Tuesday, are you happy about that?
BERNARD TOMIC: Absolutely. That's what I was hoping for. An extra day for me right now is the best thing. If it was a Monday start, it would have been a little bit bad for me. I'm really happy I got the Tuesday play, the bottom half is playing Tuesday. It worked out well for me.

But it's going to be very hot on Tuesday. You have to be ready and be fresh, I guess.

Q. The advantages of the ranking, you might get on a court that's not so hot.
BERNARD TOMIC: Absolutely. I'd love to play at the right time. It's going to be obviously hot. I don't know the peak hours for Melbourne when it's going to be hot on Tuesday. I guess it's 11 to 4.

I'm ready. Training a lot in the Gold Coast in humid weather. I'm ready for the challenge, whatever heat it is. I have to be physically fresh and recovered before I step into this match on Tuesday.

Q. Your draw, do you like it?
BERNARD TOMIC: I'm playing a player that I have a 3-1 or 4-1 record on. I like playing him. He strokes the ball very well. He plays very good tennis. Beaten good players.

I prefer to step on court with him. I know his game. He knows mine. I think head-to-head I'm 3-1 or 4-1. So it does me the favor. With this position being now being seeded, it gives you that opportunity of avoiding seeds. It's a good feeling. Definitely something I deserved over the last year with my results on tour in 2015. I think I'm very confident the way I'm playing the last 10 days. I'm very excited for the start of this Australian Open.

Q. Given how you were feeling in Sydney, is it something to think about in regards to how many tournaments you stack in before a Grand Slam?
BERNARD TOMIC: Absolutely. Obviously playing Brisbane was amazing for me. It was my goal to reach that seeding position where I am now. I played so well in Brisbane. Had a chance to make final. It was a good tournament for me.

I think the fact that I made the deal to play Sydney and had to go down there, which I truly love that tournament, it's such a great tournament for me, it's where it all started. I felt like coming down there, it was unfortunate I got sick well prior to that second-round match. I had a bit of an illness.

I'm happy I've recovered. The most important thing for me is this tournament. I'm starting to feel the way I was feeling in Brisbane. So I'm happy about that.

Q. What do you set your sights on, a particular round or goal you want to achieve?
BERNARD TOMIC: I think I have to worry about one match at a time. I played many times here in the third round, fourth round. I would like to go that step further. Has a lot to do with how I play the first few matches and how much time I spend off court.

I have to take my chances. If I can win in a quicker time, get off the court as soon as I can, that would be a favor to me. If I can't, just try to win the match.

The most important thing to me, the first few rounds, is getting off the court as quick as possible if I can do that.

Q. First time in 12 years Australia has had two seeded men's players in the draw. How does that feel? Must be nice to have that sort of depth.
BERNARD TOMIC: Yeah, it's an amazing feeling. Same as Nick, I think he's seeded 29. Is it 12 or 14 years?

Q. 2004.
BERNARD TOMIC: Yeah, you're right.

It's a big thing. I always played the Open. I think I was always around the 30 mark. Never got seeded. Now seeded 16, very excited, very happy. It gives you that opportunity and chance of not meeting top players until later rounds. It also can be dangerous against players that have nothing to lose against you. It can be tricky.

Q. Given what happened with your illness in Sydney, has your training here been as you normally would or have you backed off slightly?
BERNARD TOMIC: Yeah, I think I probably backed off a little bit the Saturday and Saturday morning. Started feeling a little bit better. Today is sort of the first day where I'm feeling almost 100%. So I had a session in the morning. Having another session now after the press conference. Feeling pretty good.

I think it's going well. I just have to hydrate now well and be ready to play on Tuesday because it's going to be very hot.

Q. Will you watch Lleyton if you can?
BERNARD TOMIC: Absolutely, I will. We're going to be hitting tomorrow. Hopefully I can give him a good warmup. Two Australians are playing. We all want Lleyton to win. It's going to be an amazing match. Then again, you know, James is also Australian. It's a bit like it's strange.

But I think James is also looking at this, if he can win this match, he knocks off Lleyton in his last match in his career, it's also a big opportunity for him.

I'm excited. I'm going to be watching it. All of Australia is going to be watching it. It's going to be a very, very exciting match to watch.

Q. Were you surprised with the amount of talk about your pulling out in Sydney?
BERNARD TOMIC: Actually, I was, to be honest. I know, you know, other players did pull out that week, were also ill. Unfortunately with me, given my bad reputation in the past, things have happened. I think it always gets a little too big.

I think, you know, just being sick, maybe a little bit disappointing the way that you guys sort of, you know, went about it. I think there were other players that week that were a bit sick. Unfortunate it had to be like this.

I said the honest truth. That's the most important thing, that I was sick. I'm happy you guys can finally understand.

Q. You mentioned the heat a few times. Do you see that as the biggest hurdle to your success? Your body is right. If it's 38, 39, 40 on court, that's a barrier for you?
BERNARD TOMIC: It's not easy for anyone doing that, playing in this heat. You can be really fit, you can be ready, and it can be tough to play. Especially me, being not well the last four days, it's not easy. So you have to recover. You have to get ready.

I am from Australia. I'm very used to humid conditions. Training on the Gold Coast, training a lot in Miami, I know a lot what the heat's like.

I don't mind playing, but it also can be very hot. Hopefully you can stay relaxed and focused throughout the match. Important to always hydrate. There's been many years here where people have had sort of accidents on court, dehydrated. It's also something you want to take into consideration. It's very important to be very physically ready and fresh for the match.

Q. Lleyton was reported this morning saying that you guys are chatting every day on the phone. Can you give us some insights of what things he's passing on to you at this stage of your career?
BERNARD TOMIC: It's important to have him there, not just for me, but everyone building up now in Australian tennis. We talk as much as we can.

He's an amazing person, not just what he's achieved in his career in tennis, but off the court he's an amazing guy, has an amazing spirit. You can learn a lot from him.

Any little details he can help with me, if we communicate like this on phone, it truly means a lot to me. I always learn something when I practice with him or when I speak to him.

Q. In terms of the match, was the person in the crowd kind of distracting?
BERNARD TOMIC: It was something I've never experienced in a match for me, so it was very unfortunate. It was a very difficult situation to be in, as well. Even the referee I spoke to said it never happened before.

I hope that person, that lady, is okay. I don't know. I actually don't know if she's okay or not. I really hope she is.

Q. Was it hard in the first few minutes afterwards when the match starts up again?
BERNARD TOMIC: Yeah, potentially someone's dying and we're not sure what's going on. You know, we had 15 minutes' gap between that service game then only to play one point.

You know, at one stage I was looking directly at the lady. It was not a good moment to be in for me. I felt very, very sad. I really hope she's okay.

Q. She is. She was responsive.
BERNARD TOMIC: Really? I'm very glad for that. At the end of the day, tennis is tennis, sport is sport. But if someone passes out or on dies on a tennis court, it can be very, very bad.

Q. The incident aside, how did you think you played out there today?
BERNARD TOMIC: I played up and down. He was playing very good, playing freely, playing very relaxed. He's beaten very good players in the past. I knew he would come out like that.

I served very well. That was the most important thing. But I went through lapses where I played very well and played very bad. A few things I need to work on tomorrow to try to recover as much as I can.

I wasn't feeling that great the last few days. I was trying to minimize time on court and do the right things. I'm very happy I won. It was a quality match. He was playing very, very well.

Q. You said leading into the match you didn't want to spend too much time on court. What was your thought pattern once you dropped the first set?
BERNARD TOMIC: It was not easy. Obviously I wanted to win comfortably, win straight. Against a player like Denis, he's beaten everyone not in the top five, top six, but top 16, top 12. He's blasted them off the court. I was very focused to try to win this quickly. He was serving so good; it was very tough.

But I feel physically pretty well. I've been preparing for this tournament very good. Physically-wise I'm okay. I'll do the right things tomorrow and hopefully I feel good on Thursday.

Q. Did you make any changes to your game plan at the start of the second set?
BERNARD TOMIC: Yeah, absolutely. I knew that he was serving great. He would have those patches where he was going to start missing some first serves.

I had to mix up my stance, where I was standing, for the returns. Started landing on a few of returns, and felt pretty good those first few games in the second set. I think there was three breaks. Felt like I got on top of him there and played a good second set; third set was also very solid; fourth set I played pretty solid as well.

Q. You must be impressed with how many breakpoints you saved. You only lost 1 of 14. Is that something that is a bit of a strength of yours?
BERNARD TOMIC: Yeah, absolutely. I focus a lot and I have a good percentage of first serves on breakpoints. I know what my plan is, my game plan is on big points, breakpoints. That's the points you need to win. They're the most important points, when you're focusing on your serve. That's why I've always been good in those situations.

If I can avoid those situations, better for me.

Q. You have quite a nice draw now. You can't face a seed until the fourth round. Confident you can take advantage of that?
BERNARD TOMIC: I saw today, even now in the locker room, the seeds are in trouble. I saw obviously Nadal lost, which was disappointing. But he was playing a quality player. I'm sure Verdasco played very, very well.

I saw Fognini lost against Gilles Muller, who is not the easiest player to play. I think I'm down to a 3-Love record against him. Lost to him last year in Sydney in the quarters.

I think I play Bolelli. He won. Yeah, I've never played him before in my career. I'll try to suss as much as I can against him.

Q. What is your coaching situation at the moment?
BERNARD TOMIC: To be honest, my dad is helping me as much as he can. We're communicating as much as we can, which is a great thing. He's putting the time aside to help my sister, which is good for her.

But honestly, you know, haven't had anyone coach me for the last year. My good friend, James, that lives in Miami helped out. We had such a good relationship last year. I don't believe too much in the coaching point of view. I believe if you want to get there, you get there.

All these players have coaches and stuff, and it's a good thing to have, but I'm different. I prefer to focus on my game, work hard.

You have to put hours on the court if you have a coach or not. If you want it yourself, you'll get it. I think last year's period of having a good year, my best year, I didn't have a coach. I had a friend there and my father was helping me as much as he can. I achieved what I achieved.

Obviously now I have to work hard on my fitness. It's the most important key to my tennis.

Q. You hit two or three of those scoop fade-away droppers. Do you go into a match thinking you're going to hit those or is it right in the moment?
BERNARD TOMIC: Right in the moment, at the right time. I always save it. I hit it very well. It's a very unique dropshot I love. I started it a few years ago. It's sort of a weapon I use. I think I'm very, very high in percentage on that point. I think I win 80%, 90% of the points when I hit that shot. I like it. You don't want to overuse it, so I only play it at the right time.

Q. Relieved to get through?
BERNARD TOMIC: Yeah. You know, I was serving for the match at 5-4. He played the right tennis; he went for it. It put me on the back foot early in the first few points. I missed a few first serves.

From then, it just shows you, you give someone back a little bit and it can turn the whole match around and maybe you can lose a match like this.

I'm very happy I won. It was very comfortable for me. First few sets was feeling very good on the court. Apart from that, serving for the match, he was playing ridiculous after that. I had to just stay with him.

I knew at one game he would miss everything. He cannot -- it's like impossible for him to hit every line, which he was doing like seven games in a row from 5-4 down.

It was good tennis though, from the third, fourth set. Unfortunately I wasn't supposed to play that fourth set. So unlucky for that, but I'm happy I won in the end.

Q. You spoke of the importance of spending as little energy as possible the first few matches. How are you feeling physically?
BERNARD TOMIC: I'm doing a great job of that, aren't I? (Laughter.)

It didn't go five, it went four, but it was a tough four. I got to do recovery. I always feel well after a few rounds here. It's tough always playing tough matches first, second round, so I need the recovery tomorrow.

I feel pretty physically good. Now I just have to recover, recover, and I play another Australian in John Millman. He's playing very, very good. He's in good form. It's not going to be an easy match. He's going to make a lot of, lot of balls.

Q. Did you have much experience with him growing up?
BERNARD TOMIC: Yeah, I mean, we've played a lot in the challengers when I was about 14, 15, 16. I think we played maybe once or twice. I think I got him both times.

But he's improved so much. He's a huge competitor. He has a lot to do with the Davis Cup now. He's a huge supporter over there. He's such a nice guy. I congratulate him for making the third round. It's I think his best achievement at a Grand Slam. It's something he's also very proud of. He's looking for sure to maybe to go into the fourth round.

We have to face each other, so I'm very happy it's the situation now. I have to focus on trying to win this match.

Q. How important was your serve tonight? 24 aces. Not bad.
BERNARD TOMIC: Was that it? Yeah, I mean, I felt like I didn't serve good. It's funny. Well, I would have taken all those aces back if I could just win that 5-4 game, you know.

I mean, I was serving really good. I was on the spot. I spoke to Simone after. He had a little bit of a problem in his lower back, but then that problem turned into something -- you know, he just kept hitting the ball so hard. He told me he couldn't run. He told me he was feeling something, so he started hitting the ball as hard as he could.

Unfortunately for me everything started going on the line. I'll take anything to win that 5-4 game, whether serving bad or good. But I'm happy with my serve today. It was pretty, pretty solid. Not the best, but solid.

Q. What do you take out of a match like this in terms of lessons learned?
BERNARD TOMIC: Well, I mean, you just got to be ready for everything in life, in every game, especially serving for the match. It's happened to me before. It's happened also to me when I've been down in matches like that. It's always tough.

A player like that, his final game, he's obviously going to try to do something different. It can work to your favor; it may not. Today it did for him. It allowed him to get back in the match.

You learn stuff all the time when you win or lose matches like this. I'm happy I won in the end. I learnt now it's time to do something different and focus more.

Q. Four Australians in the last 34. Daria is in that. Are you pleased to be part of this new Aussie generation coming through?
BERNARD TOMIC: Yeah, absolutely. It's a good feeling. We're all pushing each other. It's the most important thing. It's an Australian thing. We push each other to succeed. Looking back four, five years ago when I was 17, 18, 19, it was just myself, and Lleyton was struggling with injuries.

Now a huge motivation for everyone. They're competing so well. There's I think five Australians in the top 100, am I right? Four or five. So it's good. It's amazing what's happened in the past four or five years. It's good to see this.

You know, unfortunately today was Lleyton's last match. I didn't get to see it. I would have loved to be there, to see the final moments live. Unfortunately I wasn't. I was on the court. I was still managing to look at the score to see if he was winning, but unfortunately he was three sets to love down when I looked.

So I had to focus on my match then. But it's a huge day also for Australia to miss such a great legend. He truly will be missed.

Q. You have a bit of extra respect for someone like John Millman who has had some career-stalling injuries, sleep on airport floors, and stuff like that?
BERNARD TOMIC: Yeah, absolutely. He lives in Brisbane, I think. I live on the Gold Coast. Known each other many, many years. Spending time on Davis Cup a bit with him. He's a really nice guy. He gets behind us. He supports. Truly we get along well.

I'm very, very pleased with him winning today, him making his best third round at a Grand Slam. So unfortunately now we have to play. But, you know, I'm very happy that he got to the third round, as well.

Q. Doing anything special for your dad's birthday aside from winning?
BERNARD TOMIC: It's 12:15. It's over. I couldn't believe it. I thought it was like 9:00 when I finished. I looked and it was like 12:00. I couldn't believe it.

Q. What do you need to bring to play John? What does he bring?
BERNARD TOMIC: Different game. I think I played huge hitters now in the first round, second round, guys that hit the ball amazing. Have beaten top-10 players in the past.

Different matchup now with John. He's more of a competitor on every ball. He tries to fight for every point. Obviously probably not as talented as the guys I played, but he works every point. He works hard. Makes a lot of balls.

It's not easy playing a player like this. He deserves to be where he is now. I have to come out playing my tennis. I know I'll have a chance to win.

Q. On Lleyton, with him gone, do you feel any extra responsibility to step up and fill that void a little bit?
BERNARD TOMIC: Well, I mean, he's going to be missed not just by myself but many people, many fans out there, many kids around the world. I do feel this responsibility now, especially leading into this next Davis Cup I think in March when it's his first chance to be the Davis Cup captain.

It's something I'm really looking forward to. It's something, you know, it's going to be new for us. He really deserves to be in that spot with what he's achieved in his career as a player and also as a person, because he truly is a great guy. Not just to me, but to many others. I've definitely learnt a lot from him.

Q. Is part of you relieved to see John had knocked Muller out? You've had struggles against him in the past.
BERNARD TOMIC: Yes. Yes. That being said, I think I'm down 3-Love, or 4-Love to Muller. I was watching. I was excited in my way John won, excited to not face Gilles. I hate playing the guy (laughter).

Tomic: Federer is 'nowhere near Novak right now'

Everyone agrees that Bernard Tomic is incredibly talented. That’s not up for debate.

But there have long been questions about his character in light of several off-court issues.

And has he reached his ceiling? He’s only 23 years old, but the world No. 17’s lone appearance in a Grand Slam quarterfinal came at Wimbledon back in 2011.

"He's been struggling to show [it], to be quite honest,” Roger Federer said of Tomic earlier this month at the Brisbane International. "Many seasons now in a row we have seen or heard that [the] Top 10 is the goal, and he's missed out on it by a long shot."

Those comments clearly didn’t sit will with Tomic, who defeated countryman John Millman, 6-4, 7-6 (4), 6-2, in the third round of the Australian Open on Saturday.

"Yeah, well, he has his predictions,” Tomic told reporters during his post-match press conference when asked about what Federer had to say about him. “I think he's also far away from [Novak] Djokovic, as well, if he wants to say that. If he believes I'm very far away from the Top 10, I also believe my prediction that he's nowhere near Novak's tennis right now.

“It also motivates me. I'm working for that. When I'm playing well, I'm a Top 8 player in the world. My ranking has to get there. I'm going to work every day this year getting to the Top 10. It's not just getting to the Top 10. I'm going to get there. It's about staying there for a while. It's about being consistent.”

Tomic will have to get through second-seeded Andy Murray, who beat Joao Sousa on Saturday, to reach his second career major quarterfinal.

Q. What do you take out of a performance like that tonight when you obviously stretched him in the latter stages there?
BERNARD TOMIC: Yeah, it was very close the whole match. I just felt like I was very uncomfortable from the start. He broke me first game. Yeah, it was just uncomfortable the end.

Was a tough and close match on paper. I felt like I just didn't get that momentum of holding serve. There were too many breaks in the first set and second set either way.

I just felt like I didn't serve as good as I'd like to. But he does return a lot better than any player I faced here in the Australian Open. So it's tough serving as well when you know you have that momentum coming back in an unbelievable returner.

I just felt like, yeah, it was a very close match, but unfortunately I couldn't capitalize. I can't say that word. I've got a lolly in my mouth. I just felt I couldn't get on top of my service games. And, yeah, he was very solid the whole match.

Q. Do you feel you're getting closer? The scoreboard every time you play him suggests that.
BERNARD TOMIC: Yeah, absolutely. I think it's strange when you look. I mean, last time in Glasgow I felt like I played all right, as well, and it was 5-3-3; now it was 4-6-4. Everything was close, but I didn't play the tennis I needed to play to win.

Obviously he didn't let me. He changed the ball, mixed it up, was serving very well. It was close. Everything is close against these top few players. I know I'm there.

I wish Andy the best of luck. He's an amazing champion, Grand Slam winner. He has a huge, huge chance here. I wish him the best of luck in the tournament.

Q. Looking back on the match, is there much you would change in hindsight?
BERNARD TOMIC: Yeah, I would focus more a little bit on serving. But I think, you know, I've been serving so good the past month, I knew, you know, at one point I'd start to miss more first serves.

I felt like with Andy, with that pressure of his returns, I couldn't keep up the momentum. There were so many breaks. It frustrated me; frustrated him as well. He managed to get on top of the first few sets. I tried as much as I could in the end.

I knew I was very far away from winning, but I kept fighting. Had a chance to win that third set. Was very, very close. Came down to one, two points.

I really do wish Andy the best. He plays David now in the quarters. It's going to be an amazing match.

Q. Because he's so solid and consistent, does he make you end up going for more?
BERNARD TOMIC: Yeah, absolutely. When you play, he's got the balls coming back. He's so physical. He's on top of every ball. It's not like playing other guys 10, 15 in the world, my level. It's a different player and athlete.

He's just fighting for every ball. He's on balance and he's prepared for every ball. He gets so many balls back. It becomes so frustrating. In positions where normally other players can't get it back, he gets it back. It forces you to go for more and forces you to overthink.

You don't feel comfortable against these guys in these positions playing these players, even like Novak and Andy. Their defense is just amazing.

Q. Are you happy with how you dealt with the match mentally?
BERNARD TOMIC: Yeah, actually I am. I'm very, very pleased. Was tough, you know, being two sets to love down. It was close. Just felt like one, two points changed it. Looking at the scoreboard, 6-4, 6-4 down, I was like, Oh, no, this is going to be a long match if I need to win this.

I was trying everything to stay in that set. It was close. Came down to one, two points. I missed a few forehands which I don't normally miss, which sucks, but I can't take that back.

Yeah, was a solid match. Didn't play my best. But Andy's a world-class player.

Q. When you say that he does so many things that make you uncomfortable, do you think you'll ever get to a point when you play somebody like Andy or Novak that you will feel comfortable?
BERNARD TOMIC: Yeah, absolutely. That is the reason why, you know, these players - Novak is 1 in the world and Andy is 2 - the reason they've won so many Grand Slams. They're the best in the world. There's no better than them now. It's all there. One, two, three balls, it's all there.

I need to get a little bit fitter for my aim for these top guys. They're all very, very fit inside the top three, four. Yeah, they're the best players in the world. It doesn't get much better than that. I know what it takes to get there. I'm going to work as hard as I can. I've been playing fantastic tennis the last month. Continuing what I did last 2015. So I'm very pleased.

Yeah, now I'll move on to next preparation block and getting ready for more tournaments. I'm very excited for the challenge.

Q. You have had a steady rankings rise; last Aussie standing here. Do you get tired of every Tom, Dick, and Harry telling you what you need to do to crack the top 10?
BERNARD TOMIC: I know Roger said what he said. Maybe took it the wrong way. I explained it the wrong way. Look, I think he did mention and say we all know that Bernard is not far from the top 10. He keeps saying it.

I just would have liked Roger to say, Okay, look, he had an amazing 2015. Went from 70, 80 to being 16. He didn't mention it. I just felt like maybe Roger said the wrong thing.

I'm working. I went from where I was to 16, 17 in the world. It's an amazing achievement. I'm there. I'm six, seven spots away. When I'm playing my best tennis, I'm a top five player in the world. But I need to get there. And not just to get there. Like I mentioned before, I want to be there four, five, six years, inside the top 10, top 5.

But I have to work for that. Tonight was a task and I had to play a player that's been there for many years. That's as good as they get. I know I need to work a little bit harder and just keep getting step by step improving and just stay healthy, because I know the most important thing is you have to stay healthy.

Q. You seemed to play a little bit not so offensive. Was that part of your strategy tonight?
BERNARD TOMIC: Yeah, I knew I had to be aggressive, but not overaggressive. It just frustrates you so much because Andy's just so, so fit, so ready for every ball. He gets back everything. It's just amazing what he can get back. It just shocks you. I go for more. Against other players that I'm dominant over I feel comfortable, but against him, you just don't.

That's why he's one of the best players in the world. You know, for me to get there, I need to work very hard. But everything is there. I just have to stay healthy, like I said before.

Q. Sara has gone through to the third round. Have you had a chance to talk to her? Will you watch her?
BERNARD TOMIC: I've been watching. I've been very pleased with what she's doing. Very good. I mean, at least someone won today. (Smiling.)

But, yeah, she's playing the third round. I look back, as well, when I won the juniors here at 15. Where it started for me. I mean, she's playing now in the third round. I hope she can do well. I wish the best for her.

My dad's going to be here supporting her. I think I have to take off very soon. I have to go to America, a few other tournaments to play. I'm going to be following that closely. If I can send her a message, I mean, I'll tell her that later, but this is all where it started for me in the juniors when I was 15.

I think she has to use it as an opportunity and just play and she can do well. Who knows, maybe get to the semifinal or final. That would be good.

Q. What is your program now? To the States, back for Davis Cup?
BERNARD TOMIC: Yeah, we have Davis Cup in March. It's here in Kooyong. Yeah, I'm playing Quito which is in altitude there. It's 2700 meters. I won my last two tournaments in altitude in Colombia. This is another chance I can maybe do well in this tournament and win. I'm seeded No. 1. It starts next week. I don't start till Wednesday, Thursday. I get a bye.

I'll try to get ready for that. I have a bit of a wrist issue. I have to see about that the next few days, but it should be okay.

From then, have a few weeks in America, one, two weeks off, and then I play Acapulco. I have to play well in February like I did in January.

Q. And is Rio in the cards for you in 2016?
BERNARD TOMIC: Oh, the Olympics? I forgot about that. It is, absolutely. I don't know which month it is.

Q. August.
BERNARD TOMIC: Now, I mean, there's no points. You have to play all week. I would love to play the Olympics. It's huge. But maybe for my position, I don't know. Because there's no points, I don't know.

I'd love to play, but it's a long way away. Anything can happen till then. If I'm fit and ready, why not play?

Australian tennis star Bernard Tomic still laughing all the way to the bank

Bernard Tomic said he was desperate for a top-10 ranking at the start of the year, but now money is seemingly a higher priority for the tennis star.
The Australian's attitude was again called into question at the Madrid Masters on Wednesday after he threw in the towel during the final point of his first-round match against Italian Fabio Fognini.

Down 6-2 5-4 and 0-40 on match point, he held his racquet by the strings and didn't even attempt a return shot with his racquet handle pointed at the net.
A win in the match would have secured him an extra 25 ranking points, while players can earn 1000 if they go on to win the tournament.
Tomic is currently ranked No.22 in the world, 80 points behind fellow-Australian Nick Kyrigos who has since advanced to the quarter-finals.
But Tomic wasn't overly fussed about the result when questioned later.
"I don't care about that match point," he told News Corp Australia.
"Would you care if you were 23 and worth over $10 million?"
His match-point antics weren't the first time Tomic has drawn the ire of fans for a perceived lack of effort in a match.
Tennis legend John McEnroe accused him of putting in a "tank job" during a straight sets loss to American Andy Roddick in 2012, which included a third set which last just 22 minutes.
He also played in the shortest match in ATP Tour history in 2014, losing 6-0 6-1 to Finn Jarkko Nieminen in 28 minutes.
He ignited further controversy in January when he retired from a match in Sydney after telling an umpire he was looking towards the Australian Open, where he was desperate to accrue the ranking points needed to get him closer to the top 10.
"I need to get there," he said of the top-10 ranking during the Australian Open.
"And not just to get there. Like I mentioned before, I want to be there four, five, six years, inside the top 10, top 5."
