Pierwszy triumf wielkoszlemowy!



Alexander Zverev po niepowodzeniu w finale juniorskiego French Open, gdzie musiał uznać wyższość Christiana Garina, w końcu zwyciężył w pierwszym wielkoszlemowym turnieju w grze singlowej. Podobnie jak Nick Kyrgios rok wcześniej, tym razem Sasza zdobył dublet Traralgon - Australian Open i umocnił się na prowadzeniu w juniorskim rankingu. W finale w dwóch szybkich setach niemiecki tenisista pokonał kontuzjowanego w czasie spotkania Stefana Kozlova, przerywając serię czterech zwycięstw Amerykanina w dotychczasowych konfrontacjach.

Haas Joins Young German Hope For Munich Draw Ceremony


Dr. Markus Fischer (FWU AG), Tommy Haas, Alexander Zverev, Hans de Visser (BMW Group), Tournament Director Patrik Kühnen took part in the BMW Open draw ceremony on Saturday.

Defending champion Tommy Haas, who at 35 years of age is making his 11th appearance at the BMW Open by FWU AG, joined Germany’s youngest player in the draw, Alexander Zverev, for the ceremony at Munich airport on Saturday.

Second seed Haas, who will meet Alejandro Falla or Jarkko Nieminen in the second round, said, "I have a good feeling. I always feel well in Munich and I love playing here.”

Zverev, who won the Australian Open junior title (d. Kozlov) in January, was drawn to meet Jurgen Melzer.

“It’s a good draw,” said the 17 year old. “I am very motivated to play against Melzer and I am looking forward to get started in the event. The site and atmosphere are great and I feel very comfortable here in Munich."

Zupełnie nieudane są kolejne występy niemieckiego mistrza Australian Open do lat 18 w seniorskich rozgrywkach - Zverev, który od początku roku usiłuje rywalizować w challengerach, wygrał na tym poziomie tylko jednego spotkanie, często w ogóle nie przechodząc kwalifikacji. Stąd też stagnacja w indywidualnym rankingu i pomimo upływu czasu okupowanie miejsca w 7. setce ATP.

Pierwszy challenger dla Zvereva!



Ledwie 17-letni Zverev zgarnął najpoważniejszy seniorski skalp w karierze - w turnieju w Braunschweig pokonał w finale Paula-Henri Mathieu w trzech setach. Zverev jest szóstym najmłodszym triumfatorem tej rangi od 2001 roku - oraz najmłodszym od 2009 roku i Bernarda Tomicia. Należy jednak dodać, że spośród zawodników wyprzedzających go w tej klasyfikacji (odpowiednio Gasquet, Nadal, Djoković, Jimmy Wang i Juan Del Potro), jedynie Hiszpan musiał na drodze po tytuł pokonywać zawodników z pierwszej 100-tki rankingu. Zverev w Braunschweigu pokonywał ich - i to w Złotej Erze Tenisa, aż trzech, bo Niemca Kamke, Andrieja Gołubiewa i Mathieu.

Godne odnotowania, że w całym sezonie na poziomie challengerów Zverev wygrał do tego tygodnia tylko jeden mecz. Dzięki turniejowemu zwycięstwu Niemiec awansuje do trzeciej setki rankingu.

Widziałem fragment pierwszego seta; owszem uderza bardzo mocno i pewnie z głębi kortu, ale w początkowej fazie meczu wszystko oddawał na środek kortu. Najwyraźniej po laniu w pierwszym secie, coś musiało się zmienić.

Trochę mnie jednak zaskoczyło, że rozmawia do siebie w języku rosyjskim. Cóż, pewnie wyniósł to z domu.

Alexander Zverev has become the youngest player to win a match at an ATP World Tour 500-level tournament in more than five years.

German wild card Zverev, aged 17 years and four months, defeated Robin Haase 6-0, 6-2 in 59 minutes for a place in the bet-at-home Open second round in Hamburg on Tuesday.

“Winning my first ATP World Tour match in Hamburg, in front of a home crowd, was special,” said Zverev. “I had the feeling that the crowd was behind me. He played well in the second set, but once I got the break I played better.”

The last 17 year old to win a match in an ATP World Tour 500 event was Grigor Dimitrov, when he beat Tomas Berdych in ABN AMRO World Tennis Tournament first round in February 2009.

Last week, Zverev reached the MercedesCup doubles semi-finals, just after lifting his first ATP Challenger Tour title in Braunschweig (d. Mathieu).

“It’s definitely a big win. Winning a Challenger title in Braunschweig recently and getting a wild card here – thanks to Michael [Stich] - means a lot to me.”

He next plays fifth seed Mikhail Youzhny in the second round.

German wild card Alexander Zverev, aged 17 years and four months, knocked out fifth seed Mikhail Youzhny, 7-5, 7-5 in two hours’ mid-afternoon for a third-round clash against No. 11 seed Santiago Giraldo. Zverev’s win marks the first time a 17 year old has defeated a Top 20 opponent on the ATP World Tour since Richard Gasquet (17) beat No. 11 Nicolas Massu in the Portugal Open first round in April 2004.

"I can't explain my emotions right now," Zverev told ATPWorldTour.com. "I don't know if I am dreaming. I am really happy with the way I am playing and I am really happy to have won against a player who has been in the Top 10. One or two points mattered in both sets. I played some great points at the right moments." Zverev practised with Giraldo ahead of the tournament.

The German wild card, who turned 17 on 20 April, knocked out World No. 19 Mikhail Youzhny, 7-5, 7-5 in two hours to reach the third round at the bet-at-home Open. It marked the first time a 17 year old had defeated a Top 20 opponent on the ATP World Tour since Richard Gasquet beat No. 11 Nicolas Massu in the Portugal Open first round in April 2004.
