As word spread that a 189cm-tall teenager was beating a 34-year-old tour fixture, crowds flocked to Court 17, tucked in the back corner of Roland Garros, behind Court Suzanne Lenglen and seemingly miles from Court Philippe Chatrier where Rafael Nadal was in action.
"It (winning the match) felt about 10 times better than the championship point at the junior Australian Open," Kyrgios said.
"I can't really describe the feeling, to be honest.
"I just looked over at everyone that's been helping me over the last couple years. It was an unbelievable feeling.
"It was obviously an unbelievable experience even walking out to be part of such a great tournament.
"I want to thank Tennis Australia for that opportunity.
"My goal today was just to go out there and enjoy every moment and give my best effort from the first point to the last. If I won today it was a bonus."

Wow Wow Wow

Hi Guys.

I am writing this pretty late as its been a full on day as you can imagine. I am so excited to get my first grand slam win under my belt against such an accomplished and successful warrior as Radek Stepanek, it really does feel great and although I knew I had a chance I wasn’t expecting to go out there and win.

All three sets were tough and the only time I really let up was when I broke for 3-1 in the second and I played a real sloppy service game to let him back in and then going 1-6 down in the second tiebreak, I remember telling myself to just make him earn it and luckily I came up with some big tennis when I needed too. The final set tie break was just brutal neither of us gave an inch and we went back and forth with set points and match points but thankfully I was able to pull it out 7/6 7/6 7/6. Next up I have an even tougher test against Marin Cilic who is the 10th seed and someone I have looked up to for a while but again, I have nothing to lose and can just go out there and treat it as a bonus and just play my tennis.

After the match I had media to do, although I made sure I ate and had a massage first! Nothing comes between me and and massages! The media I did was pretty full on, I did a press conference and several smaller interviews, I feel well prepared for this thanks to all the media training I’ve done with Tennis Australia.

It was great to share this experience with my coach Simon Rea and my Mum and Brother, all of them put in so much to my tennis and today would not have been the same if I couldn’t share it with them. My Mum and Brother arrived Saturday and they are leaving Thursday before coming back over again for Wimbledon, that is a heavy flight schedule!! I guess we would do anything for air miles right? I would like it if they could stay the whole time but they have to get back to Canberra and go to work so they can get Wimbledon off, it’ all give and take I guess.

Tomorrow I will do a recovery session and another massage, I will also hit for around an hour and do some more media work before resting and preparing for the second round.

I have been completely blown away by all the great messages of support either on Twitter or my mobile, Facebook or email, it really means a lot. As I have said before I am so thankful and grateful that Todd Woodbridge and the guys at Tennis Australia gave me this opportunity and I am pumped I am making best use of it and everything else has just been a bonus that will only serve me well in the future.

I am off to get some rest now guys.

Nick Kyrgios - player profile

Nick Kyrgios is the best junior in the world. Being 18, he won his first Grand Slam match, as he defeated Radek Stepanek at Roland Garros. The Australian also has a challenger title under his belt. We may be observing the best junior/senior transition since a few years.

Kyrgios was born on 27th April 1995 in Canberra, Australia, to George, Greek father, and Norlaila, Malaysian mother. Probably not everyone appreciates his mix, as a challenger spectator claims Brydan Klein this year called him a "gorilla."

His siblings are Christos, lawyer, and Halimah, acresss. Nick is Christian, as we can tell from the cross on his neck as he plays the game.

He's 193 cm tall and he weighs 78 kg (172 lbs). In the past year he had to lose five kilo to get in better shape. "I didn't eat particularly bad, but I ate a lot. My old coach, Todd Larkham, told me it was the problem. The team did a great job with me. I still love food, but I am now training harder and managing my diet better," he says.

Nick started to play tennis at the age of 7. Soon the dilemma came: tennis or basketball. "I was pretty good at basketball, but I couldn't really risk injury for tennis, so I thought I had to give that away and really concentrate on tennis."

He attracted attention with the junior Roland Garros and Wimbledon doubles title by the side of Andrew Harris. Finally, the singles title at Australian Open came. "It was obviously a great experience being out there knowing that Federer and Murray were grinding it out the night before," recalls Kyrgios. Federer and Nadal, together with NBA stars LeBron James and Michael Jordan were his childhood heroes.

Senior successes up to date include a futures title in Yuxi, China, challenger title in Sydney and semifinal in West Lakes. Also, obviously, a first round win over Radek Stepanek at French Open. Marin Cilic schooled him a bit in the second round. The Croat has been a stable top 15 player for years. Additionally, Kyrgios injured his leg, which hopefully is nothing serious, as he plans to enter boys' competition next week. He had an ultrasound.

"I was pretty impressed with the way he plays," Cilic said. "He plays really well, has a very good serve and, I would say, likes to play offensively, so definitely it shows that he has got a very good future."

Kyrgios is ranked at #262 ATP, which is the career high. His plan for this season was to get around the 300th place.

His style bases on big serve (over 200 km/h) and big hitting, especially from the forehand side. He spoke about the level at Australian Open qualifying, where he received a Wild Card, "They don't get angry, no negativity on the court, so I think there is still a bit of improvement for me. I'm obviously striking the ball just as well as those guys." It's true, against Cilic his mind clearly began to boil. Nick tried to change something, but having more and more ideas only seemed to get things worse. Junior tennis naivety is still there. Standing two metres in for the return is one of the examples.

Nick's off-court hobbies involve listening to music, playing computer games and of course, playing basketball.

Powodzenia!

US Open 2013: awans z kwalifikacji do MD.

Udanie. Po drodze Kyrgios pokonał takich graczy jak:
Q1 Greg Jones (AUS) 3-6 6-1 6-1
Q2 [9] Joao Souza (BRA) 6-3 6-7(6) 6-4
Q3 Malek Jaziri (TUN) 4-6 6-3 6-4;

Udany turniej kwalifikacyjny pozytywnie wpłynie też na ranking Kyrgiosa. W poniedziałek po US Open będzie on po raz pierwszy notowany w Top-200. Ranking Entry LIVE:

Junior ace Nick Kyrgios joins Australian contingent in US Open

Emerging Australian teenager Nick Kyrgios has qualified for a grand slam tournament for the first time, joining Casey Dellaqua in boosting Australia's main draw numbers at this week's US Open to eight.

After starting the year ranked 838th, the Australian Open junior champion continues to make an impressive transition to the senior game, beating Tunisian Malek Jaziri from a set down in the final round of qualifying at Flushing Meadows.

The victory came after he saved multiple match points the previous day in a three-hour marathon against experienced ninth seed Joao Souza.

The Canberran, who received Tennis Australia's wildcard into the French Open and stunned veteran Radek Stepanek in the opening round, joins Bernard Tomic, Marinko Matosevic, Lleyton Hewitt and wildcard James Duckworth in the men's draw.

Kyrgios, the world's top-ranked junior, faces a baptism of fire as the youngest player in the 128-man event when he makes his main-draw debut at the hardcourt major starting on Monday.

The 18-year-old, who beat Jaziri 4-6, 6-4, 6-3 in the final round of qualifying at Flushing Meadows on Saturday, will play fourth seed David Ferrer, the vastly experienced Spaniard who lost to Rafael Nadal in this year's French Open final.

With Kyrgios considered one of the most exciting prospects in tennis - and the only teenager in the Flushing Meadows men's draw - the match could well end up being staged under the bright lights of Arthur Ashe Stadium, the biggest arena in world tennis.
