W ubiegłym tygodniu wziął udział w turnieju na kortach ziemnych w Houston, gdzie odpadł w ćwierćfinale po porażce z Ivo Karloviciem.

Z kontują zmaga się również inny Australijczyk, Thanasi Kokkinakis, który doznał poważnego urazu, wpadając na jedną z reklam ustawionych na korcie w Monte Carlo podczas meczu z Karenem Chaczanowem. Obecnie Kokkinakis musi poruszać się o kulach.

It’s doubles or nothing for Kyrgios as he tests out troublesome elbow

NICK Kyrgios will take a doubles entry for a French tournament this week to test whether his suspect elbow is ready for Roland Garros.

Kyrgios has played one tournament since a right elbow injury flared in early February at a Davis Cup tie in Brisbane and reportedly had cortisone injections last month.

The Australian has entered doubles with American friend Jack Sock at the ATP Lyon tournament that started on Sunday and it is doubtful how long he could last in singles at the French Open, which will start on Sunday night, with such a preparation.

Australian No. 2 John Millman is seeded eighth in singles at Lyon. Millman this month reached a career-best ranking of No. 58 by making a maiden ATP final and winning a Challenger.

Tennis Australia is staging its French Open women’s wildcard series in France this week, but awarded its reciprocal wildcard to Alex de Minaur.

Kyrgios/Sock Book Place In Lyon Doubles Final

Marach, Pavic aim to clinch fourth title of year in Geneva

Nick Kyrgios and Jack Sock booked their places in the Open Parc Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes Lyon final with a 7-5, 6-4 victory over Guillermo Garcia-Lopez and Divij Sharan on Friday.

Kyrgios will compete in his first ATP World Tour doubles final, while Sock has a 10-10 record in team title matches. He lost his lone clay final with Vasek Pospisil at the 2016 Internazionali BNL d’Italia (l. to Bryan/Bryan).

The Australian-American pair will next face Roman Jebavy and Matwe Middelkoop, who beat Fabrice Martin and Purav Raja 7-5, 6-1 in the semi-finals.

Jebavy and Middelkoop teamed up to capture last year’s St. Petersburg Open doubles title (d. Peralta/Zeballos). Jebavy has a perfect 2-0 in tour-level finals, while Middelkoop is 6-3 overall.

At the Banque Eric Sturdza Geneva Open, top seeds Oliver Marach and Mate Pavic, who rose to No. 1 in the ATP Doubles Rankings for the first time on Monday, will contest their 10th team final (4-5 record) after coming through 6-1, 7-6(2) against Robert Lindstedt and Andrei Vasilevski in 70 minutes.

They will next face second seeds Ivan Dodig and Rajeev Ram, who beat Steve Johnson and Sam Querrey 7-6(9), 6-4 in 89 minutes. Dodig and Ram saved one set point at 7/8 in the first set tie-break, which they won on their ninth chance.

Sock/Kyrgios Lift Lyon Title

Kyrgios/Sock improve to 11-2 as a team
Nick Kyrgios and Jack Sock clinched their first team title at the Open Parc Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes Lyon on Saturday, beating Roman Jebavy and Matwe Middelkoop 7-5, 2-6, 11-9.

The Australian-American duo saved one championship point in the 63-minute final, winning three consecutive points from 8/9 in the Match Tie-break to secure victory. Kyrgios and Sock won 65 per cent of first-serve points en route to their 11th win in 13 matches as a pairing.

It is Kyrgios’ first ATP World Tour doubles title, while Sock has now lifted 11 trophies from 21 tour-level finals. The win marks Sock’s third doubles success, with three different partners, this season. Sock also triumphed in Delray Beach (w/Withrow) and Indian Wells (w/Isner).

Jebavy was aiming to win his third tour-level title after winning in Istanbul and St. Petersburg in 2017. Middelkoop, like Sock, was bidding to clinch a third tour-level crown this season after victories alongside Robin Haase in Pune and Sofia. Jebavy and Middelkoop drop to 9-4 as a team.


Kyrgios and Sock started strongly, breaking serve to love in the third game to open a 4-2 lead. But Jebavy and Middelkoop, appearing for the first time together this season, recovered well, winning three consecutive games to lead 5-4. Kyrgios and Sock then trailed 30/40 on serve, but raised their level, winning 10 of the next 12 points to capture the first set.

The Czech-Dutch duo responded in the second set, holding serve comfortably and breaking Kyrgios and Sock at 2-1 and 5-2 to force a decisive Match Tie-break. Both teams held two-point leads early in the decider, but, after 16 points, could not be separated. Jebavy and Middelkoop earned the first championship point at 9/8, but it was Kyrgios and Sock who emerged victorious, winning three successive points to secure the title.

Kyrgios and Sock receive 250 ATP Doubles Ranking points and share €27,170 in prize money for winning the tournament. Jebavy and Middelkoop gain 150 points and will split €14,280.

Nick Kyrgios came through his first singles match for two months on Thursday for a place in the MercedesCup quarter-finals. The fourth-seeded Australian defeated Maximilian Marterer, fresh from a fourth-round appearance at Roland Garros, 6-4, 4-6, 6-3 in 87 minutes.

Returning from a right elbow injury, Kyrgios grew in confidence as the match progressed and won 80 per cent of his first-service points and hit 20 aces to Marterer’s 18 aces.

Earlier in the day, serve-and-volleyer Lopez beat Gilles Simon 7-6(6), 6-4 in one hour and 37 minutes. Lopez, who hit 16 aces, recovered from a 1-3 deficit in the first set and saved one set point at 5/6 in the tie-break. He also beat Simon at the tournament last year en route to the final (l. to Pouille).

"I think the way I played was good overall," Lopez said. "This is very important for me, to have weeks on grass. It's a very unique surface. You play only two, three weeks a year... it's so important to get matches, to get hours on the grass and [you get more] when you win."

Nick Kyrgios defeated 2017 Fever-Tree Championships winner Feliciano Lopez 6-4, 3-6, 6-3 on Friday at the MercedesCup to set a blockbuster semi-final against top seed Roger Federer in Stuttgart.

The 23-year-old Aussie, competing in his first singles tournament since reaching the Houston quarter-finals in April due to a right elbow injury, is into his second tour-level semi-final of the season. Kyrgios won his first ATP World Tour title at home in Australia in January, triumphing at the Brisbane International presented by Suncorp. The right-hander seeks his maiden trophy on grass, with all four of his triumphs coming on hard courts.


Kyrgios is one of just two players (also Hewitt) to defeat Federer, Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic in their first meetings. He also holds an impressive 8-7 record against opponents inside the Top 4 of the ATP Rankings.The Aussie’s FedEx ATP Head2Head series with Federer is tied at 1-1, with both of their meetings going to a third-set tie-break.

The one-hour, 22-minute match came down to serving under pressure. Both players won more than 80 per cent of their first-service points and landed more than 65 per cent of their first serves. But Kyrgios took advantage of both his break point chances, while Lopez broke just once.

Lopez had won two of their three FedEx ATP Head2Head series meetings before this match, but Kyrgios has now won both matches on grass. One year ago, Lopez won the biggest title of his career at The Queen's Club, his first victory at the ATP World Tour 500-level.

Nick Kyrgios pokonał we wtorek Andy'ego Murraya i awansował do II rundy turnieju ATP World Tour 500 na trawnikach londyńskiego Queen's Clubu. Australijczyk ma teraz na koncie zwycięstwa nad każdym tenisistą z tzw. Wielkiej Czwórki.

Do "Wielkiej Czwórki" zalicza się Rogera Federera, Rafaela Nadala, Novaka Djokovicia i Andy'ego Murraya. To tenisiści, którzy w ostatnich latach odnosili sukcesy w Wielkim Szlemie, zdominowali zmagania w turniejach rangi ATP World Tour Masters 1000 oraz byli liderami światowej klasyfikacji.
Z tego względu odniesienie zwycięstw nad każdym członkiem tzw. Wielkiej Czwórki jest pewną formą nobilitacji. Niewielu graczy może pochwalić się takim osiągnięciem. Kyrgios/Hewitt Cause Big Upset At Queen's Club

Lleyton Hewitt and Nick Kyrgios caused a major upset on Wednesday at the Fever-Tree Championships when they knocked out two-time former champions Pierre-Hugues Herbert and Nicolas Mahut 6-4, 3-6, 10-6 in 66 minutes for a place in the quarter-finals.

The Australian wild cards broke Herbert’s serve in the seventh game of the first set, but the French team regrouped to take a 4-1 advantage in the second set. Hewitt and Kyrgios took control of the Match tie-break by winning four of the first five points. They will next face Britons Kyle Edmund and Neal Skupski.

Kyrgios Passes Second British Test At Queen's Club

Australian to meet defending champion Lopez in quarter-finals
After defeating Andy Murray to secure his first win at the Fever-Tree Championships two days ago, Nick Kyrgios once again overcame home opposition in three sets on Thursday.

The 23-year-old edged British No. 1 Kyle Edmund 7-6(3), 6-7(5), 6-3 in two hours and 11 minutes to reach his first quarter-final at The Queen's Club, booking a meeting with defending champion Feliciano Lopez of Spain.

Kyrgios was dominant behind his serve, hitting 32 aces and winning 88 per cent of points on his first delivery. The World No. 21, who reached the MercedesCup semi-finals on his return to singles action last week, had lost in the first round on his previous three visits to the event between 2015 and 2017. Kyrgios competed in just four singles events in the first five months of the season due to a right elbow injury.


With neither player able to make inroads in their return games, the first set quickly reached a tie-break conclusion with Edmund the first to blink. The 2016 quarter-finalist miscued on his forehand side at 1/1 and soon found himself down 1/4 after two unreturnable serves from the Aussie. Kyrgios later clinched the set, on his first set point, with a ripped backhand passing shot.


While Edmund continually struggled to find an answer to Kyrgios' strong serving, the Australian did manufacture multiple break-point chances of his own. But Edmund, with aggressive serving, rose to the challenge. The Briton saved break points in three of his six service games to reach a second tie-break.

From there, he made his first breakthrough. Edmund raced to a 4/0 advantage and, despite relinquishing his lead for 5/5, levelled the match with a backhand winner and a powerful serve up the centre line.

An error-filled fourth game from Edmund handed Kyrgios the first break of the match for 3-1 and that was all he needed, clinching the victory with a well-placed backhand up the line.


Kyrgios improves to 15-5 this season and moves forward to face Lopez for the fifth time in their FedEx ATP Head2Head series (2-2). The Brisbane International presented by Suncorp champion has won both of their previous grass-court encounters, including their quarter-final clash last week in Stuttgart.

The World No. 21 ousted defending Fever-Tree Championships titlist Feliciano Lopez, whom he beat in the quarter-finals at Stuttgart a week ago, 7-6(5), 7-6(3) on Friday.
"I just want to keep my grass court form going," said Kyrgios, who was 0-3 at The Queen's Club before this week. "I'm in a good place right now on the grass. I'm serving well. I feel good from the back. I want to just stay focused for this tournament."
The Australian, who now leads the pair’s FedEx ATP Head2Head series 3-2, is into his third ATP World Tour semi-final of the season, including a triumph at the Brisbane International presented by Suncorp. Kyrgios will next face top-seeded Marin Cilic for a spot in Sunday's final. The pair has split their two FedEx ATP Head2Head meetings, but have not met since the 2016 Open 13 Provence championship match, won by Kyrgios.

In the last round, the 23-year-old Kyrgios set a personal-best of 32 aces in a best-of-three-set match with a three-set victory against home favourite Kyle Edmund. Against Lopez, in two sets, Kyrgios matched that total. He hit his 32nd ace on match point, out wide, and let out a roar of 'Come On!'
While both players served well —neither competitor was broken in the match — it was Kyrgios' serve that was most effective on the big points. The Australian faced set point on his serve at 5-6 in the second set, but quickly snuffed out the opportunity with an ace out wide. Lopez, who dropped just five first-service points in the match (44/49) thanks to pinpoint accuracy, was attempting to reach his fourth semi-final in 13 appearances at The Queen’s Club. The World No. 37 not only triumphed a year ago, but reached the 2014 championship match and advanced to the final four in 2010.
"I can't really remember a specific time where I've served at this level back to back," Kyrgios said. "I didn't expect to serve the way I did yesterday, but I just found my rhythm early again in this match. But I felt like I had to. He was serving pretty good today."
Kontinen/Peers Finding Their Stride
Second seeds Henri Kontinen and John Peers failed to reach the quarter-finals in eight consecutive tournaments after triumphing in the first week of the season in Brisbane. But after quarter-final showings in Rome and at Roland Garros, it appears the Finnish-Aussie duo is on a roll. Kontinen/Peers beat home favourites Kyle Edmund and Neal Skupski 7-6(5), 5-7, 10-6 to reach the final at The Queen's Club. They are now one win from lifting their first team trophy on grass.
