Trzeci tytuł w tym roku (wyrównał swój wynik z 2006). Czuję, że takich skalpów będzie jeszcze więcej w kolejnych latach.

Właśnie sprawdziłem, a w ostatnich latach wygrywa wszystko co może (bo ciężko by zahaczył się o zwycięstwo w meczu z Delpo czy Novakiem), bajgla od Montanesa tam nigdzie nie było.

Już trochę bliżej. Ale tak na dobrą sprawę w ostatnim czasie przegrywa głownie przez słabszą kondycję (mówię o tych długich zaciętych meczach), spory postęp poczynił w kwestii mentalnej. A, że leje go każdy z czołówki - nie ma gry na nich.

Oby nie. Już odsuwam na bok osobiste animozje, ale kolejny Monaco czy Tipsarevic (daremni w meczach z najlepszymi) nikomu do szczęścia potrzebny nie jest.

Przynajmniej ma na koncie wygrane z Fedem i Marym. Chociaż w sumie pisałeś o najlepszych, więc zwracam honor.

Trolling, trollingiem, ale na cegle to wspomniany Pico też Andy'ego pokonał. Z kolei Fed im starzy też tym bardziej daremny na tym podłożu. Gasquet potrafi od święta strzelić wspaniałym backhandem, ale jeśli chodzi o regularne punktowanie rywala to raczej nie ma czym. Woli się wycofać i poczekać, nawet w serwisie nie ma wielkiego oparcia.

Richard Gasquet won his third ATP World Tour
title of the season.

Richard Gasquet moved to No. 9 in the Emirates ATP Race To London after winning his third ATP World Tour title of the season on Sunday in Moscow. The Frenchman leapfrogged countryman Jo-Wilfried Tsonga after defeating Mikhail Kukushkin 4-6, 6-4, 6-4 in a tense Kremlin Cup final, gaining a net total of 160 points.

The 27-year-old Gasquet is bidding to qualify for the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals for the first time since 2007, when the season finale was staged in Shanghai. Following Andy Murray’s withdrawal, the player in ninth position in the standings at the end of the regular season will claim the final berth in the elite eight-man field at The O2 in London.

"I’ll try my best to qualify," said Gasquet. "Two big tournaments are coming up, including [the ATP World Tour Masters 1000] in Paris. I’ll try my best. I was close to losing today. But I fought a lot. It’s important for me to qualify for it. But the title here is important for me because my opponent played very well."

Gasquet nearly missed his chance against qualifier Kukushkin. The Kazakh won the first set and looked to have the decisive service break in the decider when he converted his fourth opportunity to go up 4-3. Gasquet steeled himself, though, and won the final three games to claim the clutch victory in two hours and 24 minutes.

"He won a lot matches recently and won Challengers," said Gasquet of his opponent. "He won seven matches here. He won against big players. For sure, I knew it would be tough because his shots are flat and very strong and he doesn’t miss much and serves well. I knew it would be a big fight for me if I wanted to win. It is a big win for me to win in three sets."

It is the first time since 2006 that Gasquet has won three titles in a season. He also triumphed at the Qatar ExxonMobil Open in Doha (d. Davydenko) and the Open Sud de France in Montpellier (d. Paire).

The right-hander has enjoyed his best season on tour since 2007, reaching the US Open semi-finals (l. to Nadal) and the last four in Miami (l. to Murray), Halle (l. to Youzhny), Bangkok (l. to Raonic) and Beijing (l. to Djokovic). He has a 48-18 match record and is two wins away from reaching the 50 match wins milestone for the first time in his career.

World No. 102 Kukushkin was contesting his second ATP World Tour final, with both coming on Russian soil after he won the St. Petersburg Open title three years ago (d. Youzhny). The 25 year old has won three ATP Challenger Tour titles from five finals this year and carried his good form into Moscow, upsetting defending champion Andreas Seppi in the semi-finals and fourth seed Alexandr Dolgopolov in the second round.

After seeing his Emirates ATP Ranking fall to outside the Top 300 in June, Kukushkin is now projected to return to the Top 70.

In his best season on the ATP World Tour since 2007, Richard Gasquet is on the cusp of securing one of the coveted eight berths at the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals. The Frenchman is currently ninth in the Emirates ATP Race To London after winning his third title of the season in Moscow (d. Kukushkin) and credited consistency and his physical improvement with the strides he’s made in 2013.

"I've been playing well,” Gasquet told ATPWorldTour.com. “It's true I've been consistent, especially in the big tournaments. I played well in the [ATP World Tour] Masters 1000s and I've won three tournaments. It's been a big season for me; my best since 2007.”

The 27-year-old Gasquet is close to reaching the 50 match wins milestone for the first time in his career (48-18 match record). Among those wins was a run to the US Open semi-finals, where he defeated David Ferrer, in five sets, for just the second time in 10 meetings to reach his first Grand Slam semi-final since 2007 at Wimbledon (l. to Federer). His run ended against Rafael Nadal, but the confidence he took from it has seen him make a big push for the Final Showdown in London in the final weeks of the season.

"I've worked a lot this year, especially physically,” said Gasquet. “It's important to do that because the season is very long, so you need to be strong physically. The improvement showed at the US Open, playing in the big matches in a row. That's why I'm playing better and in the Top 10 now. I will try to keep going and keep this position. It's difficult. A lot of guys are playing well.

"I took big confidence from the US Open because I beat big guys in five sets, two in a row (against Milos Raonic and Ferrer). So, for sure I took a lot of confidence after this tournament. It's very difficult to say if I am better now [than in 2007]. I think so. I'm better physically and have more experience than before.”

The Frenchman would seem to have hit form at just the right time, reaching the semi-finals or better in four of his past five tournaments. He competes this week at the Swiss Indoors Basel, where he will look to lengthen the gap between himself and countryman Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, who is not playing. His final push comes next week on home soil at the BNP Paribas Masters in Paris, where he reached the semi-finals in 2007 before travelling to Tennis Masters Cup Shanghai as one of the elite eight.

“I want to reach the [Barclays ATP World Tour Finals],” said Gasquet. “I will try to go. It's difficult; there are a lot of players who can qualify so we'll see what will happen. I'll try my best until the end of the season and the best players will go there.”

Richard Gasquet qualified for the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals and bettered his personal-best match wins milestone for a single season on Thursday.

Gasquet recorded 50 match victories in a season for the first time when he knocked out Kei Nishikori with a 6-3, 6-2 win in 86 minutes at the BNP Paribas Masters in Paris.

His victory came just a couple of hours after Tomas Berdych had beaten Milos Raonic in the third round, which guaranteed Stanislas Wawrinka and Richard Gasquet their spots in London.

“You can try to say you're not looking, that you will be concentrating on your own match, but I wanted to know,” said Gasquet. “I was relieved when I knew that I was qualified, so I was not so tense for my match.

“It was more difficult for me to qualify this time than six years ago. It was tough for me to come back, and today I believe the tennis is at a very high level. I won three tournaments and I went far at the US Open."

The 27-year-old Gasquet last reached the Paris semi-finals in 2007, the same year he qualified for the season-ending championships, when the event was held in Shanghai. He also notched 49 match wins.

Gasquet joins Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic, David Ferrer, Juan Martin del Potro, Berdych, Roger Federer and Wawrinka at the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals, which begins at The O2 in London from 4 November.

"I'm very proud to be able to go back this year. If I had been told two or three years ago that I would qualify again for the [Barclays ATP World Tour Finals] I wouldn't have believed it."

Gasquet will next meet Nadal in the Paris quarter-finals on Friday night.

Frenchman Richard Gasquet qualified for the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals with a strong season in 2013, making this his first appearance in the season finale since Shanghai in 2007. The World No. 10 had come close in 2012, qualifying as an alternate for the eight-man field. The 27 year old used that experience as motivation to make his return to the final event of the year.

“Last year I saw the wonderful stadium. It was full for the entire tournament,” said Gasquet in London. “It was important for me to qualify this year. It was my goal at the start of the season. I’m proud to be there with all these great players. I will try my best to play well.”

Gasquet opens up his campaign for nearly $2 million in championship prize money against Argentine Juan Martin del Potro on Monday. “It’s an exciting match for me to play my first match since Shanghai six years ago,” shared the 27-year-old native of Beziers, France. “Of course will be the favourite. I know he’s a great player but I will try to play well and win the match.”

The top French player, who earned titles in Doha, Montpellier, and Msocow and reached the semi-finals of the US Open this year, comes into the London tournament with a different mindset from his first experience as a 21 year old. “It was difficult for me, especially in France where the sport is very popular. No one had won a Grand Slam in almost 25 years. I had big expectations on my shoulders,” said Gasquet. “I’m really lucky to be able to come back here. And now I’m trying the best I can to be better in the rankings. I hope to qualify many times from now on and in the future.”

In the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals draw, Gasquet and del Potro share Group B with Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer. Group A comprises Rafael Nadal, David Ferrer, Tomas Berdych and Stanislas Wawrinka.
