Nicolas Mahut became Monday the first ‘double’ titlist at the Hall of Fame Tennis Championships since Rajeev Ram lifted the singles and doubles (w/ Jordan Kerr) trophies in 2009.
Twenty hours after he captured his second ATP World Tour singles title over former World No. 1 Lleyton Hewitt, Mahut joined forces with fellow Frenchman Edouard Roger-Vasselin to beat Americans Tim Smyczek and Rhyne Williams 6-7(4), 6-2, 10-5 in one hour and 33 minutes for the Newport doubles crown.
Mahut is also the first player to win both titles at an ATP World Tour tournament since Mikhail Youzhny (w/Marcos Baghdatis) in February 2012 at the PBZ Zagreb Indoors.
Second seeds Mahut and Roger-Vasselin split $25,000 in prize money and 250 Emirates ATP Rankings points in the pair’s fourth tournament success.
Mahut improved to a 7-5 in ATP World Tour doubles finals mark, while Roger-Vasselin extends his perfect record to 4-0. The duo won three titles in 2013 on French soil, including the Moselle Open, the Open 13 and the Open Sud de France.
Smyczek and Williams shared $13,140 and earned 150 points.
The doubles final had been carried over to Monday after Mahut played three matches – two singles and one doubles – on Sunday. By winning the singles title, Mahut rose 52 spots to World No. 75.
ERV zanotował swój drugi zawodowy finał - na kortach w Chennai zagrał o tytuł, gdzie musiał jednak uznać wyższość Stanislasa Wawrinki. Był to 2. finał turnieju ATP w wykonaniu Francuza i druga porażka.
Edouard Roger-Vasselin - finały w singlu (2):
2014 (1) Chennai
2013 (1) Delray Beach

Julien Benneteau and Edouard Roger-Vasselin recorded their first round-robin win on Tuesday at the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals.
This season’s Roland Garros champions, the fourth seeds this week, defeated second seeds and two-time former season finale titlists Daniel Nestor and Nenad Zimonjic 6-4, 5-7, 10-4 in their second Group B clash at The O2 in London.
Benneteau and Roger-Vasselin had to bide their time in the first set. Five break point opportunities passed, prior to a two-game spell when they won 11 of 13 points to take a 5-3 lead. The French pair kept Nestor and Zimonjic on the back foot, losing five of their service points in the 29-minute opener. Benneteau closed out to 15.
Nestor and Zimonjic, who will play with other partners in 2015, regrouped and raced into a 3-0 lead in the second set, but Benneteau and Roger-Vasselin continued to attack. Nestor and Zimonjic’s net play faltered and the groundstroke power of the Frenchmen reaped dividends as they won three straight games.
Nestor won a deciding point deuce for 4-3 to break the streak and Zimonjic recovered from 0/40 for a 5-4 advantage. The Canadian-Serbian tandem broke Roger-Vasselin to take the set.
Benneteau and Roger-Vasselin seized early control of the Match tie-break for their 33rd match win of the year. They are the first French team to qualify for the season finale since Arnaud Clement and Michael Llodra in 2007.
The duo has a 33-15 match record on the season, including the Open 13 in Marseille and at Roland Garros (d. Granollers-Lopez), when they became the first French team to win the Grand Slam championship since Henri Leconte Yannick Noah in 1984.
Nestor and Zimonjic won the season finale title in 2008 and 2010. Nestor is making his making a record-equalling 15th appearance at the tournament (tied with Leander Paes).
Julien Benneteau and Edouard Roger-Vasselin have finished in first position in Group B to qualify for the semi-finals at the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals.
The fourth seeds, who went 2-1 in round-robin play, defeated the unbeaten team of seventh seeds Ivan Dodig and Marcelo Melo 4-6, 6-2, 10-8 in 82 minutes. Dodig and Melo, who had already secured their place in the semi-finals, finish as the second-placed team.
Benneteau had his serve broken twice in the second and 10th games of the 36-minute first set. But the all-French team regrouped in the second set with aggressive play, as Melo found himself caught at the net. Dodig and Melo took a 2-0 lead in the Match tie-break, but clinical volleying from Benneteau and Roger-Vasselin helped them to their 33rd match win of the year for a place in the semi-finals.
Pojawił się Edouard w kwalifikacjach Szanghaju, szybko przegrał i wydaje się, że koniec coraz bliżej. Jest w tourze kilku graczy, którzy bezcelowo przeciągają swoje kariery.
